BTW - the Dave Wannstedt/Randy Shannon comparison = spot on.

Props to whoever put it out there.

Great post :knucks: Jacory also is not a $ needy player. He comes from a middle-class family, with parents that both have good jobs and stress education. They I think will encourage him to stay and play next year. Even with a strong finish this year, I would not expect him to be better than a 4th round pick.

They're a nice team but none of those guys are exactly College Hall of Fame material. There's still a huge gap between Shannon's recruiting and, say, Nick Saban's recruiting. And Shannon has home field advantage on the recruiting front.

IMO, in college football, you put the best players on the field and hope the coach doesn't get in the way too much. Shannon isn't adhering to either of those goals.

    That was probably me. Sadly.

His cockiness definitely fits the program. That's for sure. He talks a really big game. I read a comment where he basically guaranteed that he'd win the Heisman some day....

I've seen a handful of his games live and he does play like he's superman though. Sometimes that's a good thing.... others, bad.

Yeah well the difference is Saban is one of the best coaches in all of football whilst Shannon is not. Tough to get all the guys Saban pulls in when you can't put a winning season consistently. Shannon has done well coaching and getting players in your backyard is an advantage for everyone. You NEED to get those guys. If you aren't, then either you're not a very good recruiter or they lack talent. Shannon has gotten those guys.

In college, athletes play the game but they also need to be coached. Going by what you said, it seems that they've done that with Demarcus Van Dyke. They put him out there, didnt' get in the way, and he's been terrible. I think they NEED to get in the way. You need to coach these guys. Going with your Saban comparison, do you see how much he gets on his players when they mess up?

While I agree with you to an extent, I could see third round with him. If he stays, he could drop more.

He was probably too busy watching the Noles get their asses handed to them, just like Miami did.

I think you're underrating the recruiting advantage Shannon is supposed to have in South Florida. The talent pool didn't suddenly dry up, nor did other regions of the country suddenly and massively improve as football recruiting hotspots. I just don't see any reason why this team should still be in the "treading water" phase, but it is.

Of course. He did it when he was here, too. Yelling isn't really coaching, though.

This team is in the treading water phase because of piss poor coaching.

If you think all Saban does is yell, then you haven't watched him coach much.

Like I said, by this point in time the talent should overcome the coaching.

Who would you prefer to coach this Canes team?

Hey, you brought it up.

No, talent can't overcome coaching if they havne't been taught how to play their position. Again, see DVD, who has great talent but zero IQ and technique.

I don't really have a preference. Just someone who is experienced and who knows what he's doing.

It's tough to describe a guy who doesn't know what he's doing as talented, IMO.

    Bobby Bowden is available... :shifty:

Natural talent is what I'm talking about.

That would be a cheeky offer.

I'd of gladly, and I mean gladly.... taken Tommy Tuberville last year when he was available.

And he'd of gladly accepted to lead this program given his history here as an assistant and the ties that remain.

How would you know what my Ted Ginn assessment was given that you weren't on this website when he was drafted let alone in the run up to it?

Slight downgrade in recruiting, major upgrade in coaching. Not a bad choice.

I think we can pry Wannstache from PITT. If that fails, Jimmy Johnson could make a comeback...

Tuberville would be a good choice. Chris Johnson would be a good choice. Hell, even Jon Gruden would be a good choice.

I taped it BK. Flicked it on every now and again to a) irritate the missus and b) see the score. Those 3.30pm Saturday kickoffs are 8.30pm kickoffs over here so not conducive to happily marriages!

If they want to go with a defensive coach, Gary Patterson. He can coach. And do it well.

You'd never get him because his persona doesn't suit and he wouldn't stand for all that "The U" stuff but Bo Pellini can flat out coach.

Last 2 times I've seen Terrelle he's been taking baby steps forwards.

Only baby steps mind. I saw one run in the 4th where he went right, shimmied, reversed field and tried to slap Brandon Harris upsides his head.
