Edgar Thompson, of The Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins QB John Beck has been working hard during the offseason. General manager Jeff Ireland said Beck has thrown close to 4,000 balls with quarterbacks coach David Lee. He has also spent much of his time and energy in the film room.

My shoulder gets sore just thinking about John Beck’s off-season.

Looking to put a shaky rookie season behind him, Beck has been working overtime.

“He’s thrown close to 4,000 balls here with (QBs coach) David Lee,” GM Jeff Ireland said.

And Beck surely is spending even more time and energy in the film room.

This is the same guy who had his wife running pass patterns in their living room last season or spent a day at Disneyland with his kid day dreaming about two-a-days.

Beck’s dedication and hard work doesn’t mean he’ll win the starting job over Josh McCown, a six-year veteran with 31 starts whom the Dolphins signed last month.

But Beck, 26, should have a leg up on whoever the Dolphins pick up next week in the NFL draft. The team could use the first pick of the second round (No. 32) to grab one of the top QBs available or wait until pick No. 57 or No. 64, if not later.

With the team’s QB of the future undecided, Ireland said anything could happen in the coming months with Beck and Co.

He’s done a nice job trying to develop (Beck),” Ireland said of Lee. “There’s a comfort level here, but anything can happen in the draft.”

At some point I would really like to hear something other than he's working hard. I'm looking forward to the day when I hear "He's looking good out there"

How can you judge him right now when he's not throwing balls in a game setting? Would you believe/accept Lee and Ireland if they said "Beck looks great out there throwing balls to nobody"?

I wouldn't expect to hear anything like that until after the draft. Even if they like Beck, they wouldn't want any other teams that might overreach for a QB to know.

I think this is great and it sure beats the possible alternatives.

But you know who was a really hard worker too? Jay Fiedler.

Not saying that to be a downer, but as for me, I'm going to temper my expectations of the young man.

Hey Nabo, Themole here. Jay certainly was a hard worker and a man with a lot of heart. I admire him for his gamesmanship. He just could not, for the life of him, throw an accurate pass and was possibley suspect in reading defenses.

John Beck, on the other hand, has shown he knows where to throw the ball and is accurate. I have a lot of faith this guy, given the proper time to develop and protection will make us proud.

Now I have to ask. Why are you so in love with Matty Ice? :wink2:

I'm not down on the kid by any means; I'm going to hope for the best, but be ready in case he turns out to be yet another tease.

    Matt's an easy target.

Like his receivers...except he misses those. :sidelol:

Thats great news. Im glad hes out there doing what they want/need him to do to add on some size, and work on his throwing. I like the qualities this kid brings to the table... I hope he shows us what he can do, and that he can be our QB of the future
