I like Bodden (even if he is a Patriot) so while it sucks to see him go down... I don't feel bad that it will make it easier for B-Marsh to TORCH them!
I would love to see Butler try to cover or tackle Marshall. Butler: 5-10 180 lbs Marshall: 6-4 230 lbs
This is a big blow for them. Even worse than us losing Garner for the year. Man, I hope Will Allen and Channing Crowder come back. You know, with the Bills, Pats and us losing players left and right, the odds are definitely increasing that the Jets could take the division. Man, I hope not.
Yeah, their defense ISNT going to be good this year at all, they are going to have to score 25+ to win every game....no pass rush, and no secondary... This puts McCourty opposite Butler now.....and around here during the Pats pregames, it sounds like McCourty is having a down preseason so far, and they are down on him....
That defense is going to be horrendous this year -- it might be bottom 10 in the league bad. And now they're one snap away from Terrence Wheatley being their #2 CB. That's fantastic news for the rest of the AFC. Their poor job of drafting over the past few years is finally starting to catch up with them. They have no depth anywhere on defense. Of course, that offense might be good enough to mask their defensive short-comings on most weeks, but I don't see how anyone can call them a legimitate contender with a straight face.
WEll, wouldn't go that far, for their lack of a passrush the pats D was actually quite good last season, they did add pieces and Burgess is in yr #2 of converting to WOLB, so his light could come on. Belicheat, for all of his foibles, is still a top notch football mind. But with losing Bodden and our addition of Nolan imho our defenses are now similar, but the Jets losing Pace and Pirhoutia drags them down as well. With 3 defenses with questions, the offenses have a heavier role and the Pats have the best offense in the AFCE as long as Brady is at the helm.
I know you are going to rip stats off at me, however stats dont tell the whole tale. I dont think they were that good, besides Miami games, I always DVR'r the Pats games and watched them and usually Pads came away unimpressed. Everytime that team played a good football team, they had trouble, and if not for Brady they might have been 8-8 last year.... Now this year, I believe their defense is worse with the exception of Mayo, and Tommy Lee over there...I put Burgess in the Pat White category of the head not being in it, they lost Warren, they still have a below avg pass rush, and their secondary that was already beatable, is even more beatable.... BB's mind aside and I agree the man is a genius as much as I hate to admit it, there is only so much you can do before the players have to actually do it.....and yes Brady puts them on top as far as everything is concerned..... Lastly Pads all I'm saying is keep it close with NE, and win in the end, on a life-sucking drive late in the 4th, cuz it can be done this year....
Here's a little gem from our friends at footballoutsiders: The Patriots, from what I can tell, become the first team to place two defensive starters on injured reserve before the beginning of the season since the 2003 Cardinals, who placed Kyle Vanden Bosch and Duane Starks on IR before Week 1. That team finished dead last in points allowed and defensive DVOA. Before them, the 2000 Chargers placed Raylee Johnson and Eric Hill on IR before the season tipped off, and while they went 1-15 and allowed the third-most points in the league, they finished 11th in defensive DVOA.
