Sounds very much like a rehash of last season that Cole is projecting into this yr, if anything Smith has gotten a bit more aggressive v Brandon Marshall and made tackles in the last preseason game.
I never realized what a douche this guy became. Way to burn bridges wow. Oh well I expect Sean got better just is bit more reserved. He's growing up.
Wait a minute, he lost a lot of the aggressiveness he showed last year?? How in the hell is that possible when that was his major weakness?? What an assclown this Cole guy is becoming.
Here is sweetie's article: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=jc-road082010 What bothers me is at worst Jason Allen is an average NFL Cb, Will Allen will be ready for the start of the year (or should be, Porter was typically ready for day 1 after a cleanup) and yet Cole's article is that we have no one else to play Cb other than Sean Smith? Stuff like that is what bothers me about Sports media, add in objecitvely speaking Smith was not all that great last yr and a short term fillin could do as well, and most of these sports writers don't know what they heck they are talking about most of the time.
Dude...Jason Cole is probably the biggest nobody South Florida has ever known. He has no clue what is going on down there. Why even read his articles?
It's like Mike Florio said the other day (on local radio). A lot of the media is being replaced by smart fans. Whether Cole is right or wrong will play out on the field. But I would agree with Padre that Smith might have gotten a little more kudos than he earned last year. He looked more physical vs the run in the limited action we saw last week, however.
I dunno if I'd say that. A lot of players and coaches feared him when he on the beat because he lacked restraint. He got a lot of people to talk because they knew he'd run things anyway if they didn't.
This couldn't be more true....and they know it. The fans not only taught them how to use the internet, they forced them onto the internet by showing them irrelevant they could become. The fact is it's kinda hard for them to compete.......I mean look at the army of contributors at this place alone. Most of the local newspaper guys seem to keep their jobs because they draw a lot of viewers that just wanna bash them. We grab their articles, go back to the forum we post at and laugh about how ridiculous it is.... far more times than not. Personally, I think there's Dave Hyde and then everybody else... all of which could be easily replaced by someone on this forum
Smith came up and made a big physical play against the run in the middle and saved a touchdown. I like the guy and think he has a lot of potential but even saying that I was impressed on that play. He made another nice play but the Bucs picked up the first down. Judging from Cole's comments about Sean losing his physicalness he obviously wasn't watching.
Is this the same Sean Smith I saw stick himself into the slop in the middle of the field more last week in a damn preseason game then I saw him do in 16 starts last year? Huh, we must have picked up another Sean Smith recently that I did not hear about. Cole is a moron.
I may be missing where it is, but who writes a blog-type article, spends more time writing about off topic items such as your high school reunion, how a place is hot and playing basketball you would have to cool down to hot and music you listen to on a specific morning. Sorry jackass, if you want to tell everyone your old but try to hard to be cool (HS reunion, listening to Lincon Park) post it on Twitter. Your writing for a large online conglomerate about FOOTBALL. Not just football, but the NFL. And that's the drivel you come up with. 2 paragraphs on 1 team's visit. Then he has the nerves not to have a comments section because he knows his *** would get ripped apart more than when his fist goes up there every night. This guy is an absolute idiot who should count his lucky stars someone on the planet is dumber than he is who will actually pay him to write this crap.
Jason Cole isn't a fan of anything miami dolphins and will look like the biggest douche when the dolphins are actually a good team this season.
To say Sean Smith has LOST his aggressiveness since last year is beyond inaccurate. Its the complete OPPOSITE of the truth. Ofcourse we have exactly 1 game of tape to go by so far... Ive probably been the hardest person on him for that, and when I saw him last week voluntarily supporting the run I almost cried with joy!
No disrespect to anyone here but what is everyone's obsession with Sean Smith? I mean really, what has he done to receive all this admiration other than donning the Dolphins uniform? If anyone interprets my post as insulting then please just disregard it. Between Vontae and Smith, I personally feel the former has a much more brighter upside than the latter.
I have to admit, I am not a huge fan of him myself. I am really surprised the Trifecta picked him. He is a finesse corner. Vontae D is classic Trifecta player. Strong, tough, can tackle, will tackle....Smith? He may have been better last week but that doesn't take much. He is not, and will not, be a physical corner. I won't be surprised if he gets shipped out, quite honestly. Maybe not this season, but if we keep Carroll and are able to keep Ness on the PS....I would be nervous if I was SS.
He obviously only saw the hilights last week. Especially the lone Bucs td that Smith kinda gave up. Altho id put a little blame on the lde for losing contain on the qb.
Well, that is not insulting, it is realistic, both Smith and Vontae were constantly burned last season, imho neither should be getting the love they do as they have yet to really step up out on the field. That said, Smith can be the antidote to the current trend of tall Wr's in the NFL, that is what has me a bit excited by his play. Well that and I watched Bobby Taylor play for the Eagles and he and Smith had similar first seasons, only Taylor really stepped it up afterwards.
Yeah, the one thing about Cole is that he tends to twist things more to the negative side than the positive... For example, what he says about Smith isn't exactly wrong, but the upside on the kid still looks good to most, rather than his weaknesses. Look at the Berger vs Grove thing...(assuming Berger takes the job from Grove) you can say "geez, the Troika should have known, given Grove's injury history that wouldn't work out..." Or you could say "geez, what a great pickup Berger was..." and be saying the same thing...just a different perspective... I don't think it's too surprising that Cole reacts this way to this regime. He's been against the Dolphins since he's been here... He's always the negative side of every story involving the Fins...
Why don't we just ask any Jets fan how we are going to do this year? You may get a more partial opinion then Cole. Smith never really had aggressiveness last year. Going off the reports I've been hearing from TC and the first preseason game, it looks as though Smith has stepped his physical play up, but it absolutely use a bit more work.
TBH, I'd be happy if Sean mastered the art of the shoe string tackle over trying to become the next Pat Fisher, when you have the long arms as he does, why not? I'll never forget the image of Sam Aiken trucking him last yr, that was funny and sad at the same time...grab an ankle and hold on for Pete's sake Smith.
Honestly, while they're both very talented, they both have a LOT of seasoning / maturation to undergo. I haven't seen them this year yet, but last year they both lacked discipline and experience. They don't all of a sudden gain experience from week 16 to the start of the preseason. Experience teaches them discipline. Just as with any skilled job, it develops over time
Cole also isn't a fan of thoughtful, rational or realistic analysis either. I honestly can't recall a single instance where something he said or wrote caused me to think "good point". I value his opinion about as much as I would the kindergartner who calls another kid a "doo-doo head". Now it had been a while since I read anything from him, for obvious reasons. And I wouldn't have read either of the two articles if they weren't in this forum. I only read them this time to see if he had improved at all, unfortunately it appears that he has maintained the kindergarten level of insight.
Smith may not be a great tackle, but he most certainly is not afraid to tackle, and I believe as long as he is willing to become a better tackler it will come. You have to remember he played WR for a LONG time before switching to CB. You dont just become a great tackler overnight but you can work at it. Its absolutely ridiculous to think he will be shipped out unless he absolutely bombs out.
This is so true, the ONLY time I read an article written by a S. FL sportswriter is when someone posts a link here.
