The first opportunity to see the starters and we can't get out of the mud. When we are finally out of the mud, second and third stringers will be in the game.

Yes and at least we didn't turn it over. I think both of Tampa's turnovers have come out of the mud.

very, very disappointing tonight. yes they were in the mud, but still they looked very uninterested. I know they want to look vanilla in the pre-season, but damn that looked like it was still in beans it was so vanilla. Not the way I thought this season would start.

I think the Phins need to practice in the rain more often. The practice bubble is a double edged sword.

The mud should be a home team advantage

Maybe Brandon Marshall should reconsider on changing his number?

anyone else disappointed in dan hennings play calls still? 3rd and 11 and our fullback is running a 2 yard route.......how does that make any sense? ya i understand a RB or WR making that route, but the fullback? ugh hopefully its just preseason playbook.

oh and did marshall not even catch a ball? damn.....

Not this year. We have only one home game in September. The Marlins' season ends on October 3, and we play the Pats at home on MNF on October 4.

The infield simply won't matter this year. We'll only see it for one game, Sunday Night against the Jets in week 3.

Marshall had a wide open catch bounce off his hands, probably due to the ball being wet. Or his jersey being cursed. Or both.

What really bugs me is that either Henning is calling for possession-type passes, where the WR isn't getting the opportunity to catch the ball in stride and turn upfield, or the QBs are just deciding on their own to throw those types of passes, which is even worse. I've never seen any sort of crossing route succeed in gaining YAC.

    Driving me insane.

Some things of interest to me:

IAF got the entire second series of the game, save for one third down, in place of Misi with the first team. Clearly they like this guy and want to see what he's got.

Odrick is looking really good. On that high snap scramble by Josh Johnson, Odrick had smoked center Jeff Faine with a nice swim move. For a guy who was thought to be a run specialist, we're seeing/hearing a lot of him rushing the passer.

Koa Misi and Charles Grant completely collapsed the right side on that fumble recovery play by Paul Soliai, who's definitely showing something. Grant was lined up at LDT. Lionel Dotson also was getting pressure on that one.

John Jerry seems to be holding his own. Noticed him handling Gerald McCoy 1-on-1 a few times. Those two rookies are essentially on an even playing field.

I was disappointed with the rain and mud. It's 2010 in the big money NFL, and we're still playing on a small town high school field thru October. Can't wait for the Marlins to be outta there.

That is primetime hurricane season. I was sitting in the stands on a night versus Pittsburgh as feeder bands came rolling through.

Hurricane season simply hasn't been much of a season in years. Yeah, we'll get more hurricanes in the future, but over the last few years it's been a non-issue.

The first quarter downpour is probably the worst we'll see all season.

    Let's hope so.

I generally attend the worst downpours of the season.

OT: Tell ya what, the Club Lounge at the stadium is a great place to watch a game when it's pouring.

We have a grand total of three home games in the first two months of the season. It won't rain in November and December.

But... it also rains in other stadiums

I'm down with the practicing in the rain looks like they need it badly, glad it was exposed during pre-season at least. Even though it's the first game of pre-season this game has been a huge reality check for both the fans and the players i'm sure. Happy to see we finally have some depth at least.

I still get amused by comments of rain or the "mud" crippling us at home.

This is Football. It's a game meant to be played outside. If the team can't handle elements it's not a very tough or well prepared team period. I was dissapointed by the starters performance. Horrid. Still it's first preseason game so no reason for any warning sirens yet.

Our road games in September and October don't really have a high likelihood of rain. Buffalo, Minny (dome), Green Bay, Cincy, Baltimore.

I'm not worried about rain in those games.

The fact is nobody else in the league plays in the mud (except SF I believe).

Rain is rain. But the infield is barely dirt. I've stood on it. It's gravel with a little bit of dirt sprinkled on. It's ridiculous.

Defensive ballgames can have that boring effect.

The drops do not concern me. Take your football and dunk it into water. Then roll it on the beach. Who can catch that thing? Heck, it's difficult to hold on to it as Tampa displayed when they got in the infield.

Every time the ball was snapped from the infield, I wondered why we did anything but run while on offense....... Run until we got out of the infield.

    Couple of things I noticed.

    1. Ronnie Brown is still our whole offense.

    2. Vontae and Smith both made plays, but both were torched.

    3. Ricky seems to get slower every year.

    4. If they were showcasing Thigpen for a potential trade suitor, we just lost ammo.

well Im not concerned with Marshall droping passes, Im confident that wont be an issue come week1. But I like alot out of what I saw with our D. Odrick and Starks played well in their new spots and I like what Misi did. IAAF was making nice plays on that side, it should be interesting to see who starts there come regular season. Chrowder is going to have a great year I believe, he is going to be cut loose and not have mush responsibities, I like him for that. And Solia looked great And so did McDaniel. If we wanted to go big we could have Starks, Solia, and McDaniel, also Dougles raied my eyes he looked strong at the point of attack. A couple more players that I liked were Jones and Spitler.

P.S. I hope P.White gets as much playing time in the next game as Thygpen got tonight. And Tristen Davis is cut

    1. Yes, in a preseason game in the rain with mud for the field. And he looked good to me, nice cuts.

I think Marlon Moore is your #5 receiver right now. All three of the contenders showed something tonight, but Moore is the only one not to have a gaffe (that I recall).

Also interesting; after starting the past two seasons as the first team right guard, Donald Thomas is running third team. Judging by what we saw tonight and including Nate Garner, he's the fifth or sixth guard. Sixth if you consider Ray Feinga, re-signed just this week, got in a full quarter or so before Thomas. Joe Berger is certainly ahead of him on the roster.

    Better step up quick!

    why really
the vanilla defense played well. we didn't show our hand at all playing base
the offense had way too many early penalties. killed some drives
Thigpen was impressive with his work

I honestly neglected to look for him on those units.

I thought the same thing about Wallace. Major gaffe. Luckily they've got a few more weeks to prove themselves.
