Just looked at Miller's numbers and wow he's been pretty bad. He's still walking guys like crazy but also very hittable. On the postives, he's young, left handed and still K'ing a guy per inning. Sometimes, for whatever reason, it takes LHPs longer to develop. I'd probably guess that his future is probably a reliever and with another team. It seems like it's just not working with Florida which happens. The bad thing is Florida will get nothing for him straight up so he's probably going to be released/non-tendered if they can't fix him since he's probably close to running out of options soon.

Maybin destroys minor league pitching but his bat just can't handle MLB quality pitchers. Again he's still young and in the very least he's a very good defensive 4th OFer. Or maybe he's just a 4A player.

It's too bad as both players were/are super talented.

I still have a lot of hope in Maybin. The last two seasons he played very well in September. He just needs to learn to be more consistent, and to put the ball in the air. He hits to man ground balls.

As for Miller, if he doesn't show anything next ST, he's done. No more options to use.

A scout's rule of thumb is never judge a player for what he does in either March or September, as the quality of play (especially in September for non contending teams) isn't always top notch as teams give their players rest and usually play a lot of prospects and minor leaguers.

Plus it's kind of hard to pick out one random month last year yet ignore what he's done in the 3 months this year. If anything this just might be good proof he might be a 4A player.

Imo if you give Maybin a chane, you give him a full season. Find out EXACTLY what he can do. This is your year, no excuses.

On the plus side Stanton is a beast.

Maybin is going to be good, though. You can see he has the talent. He just needs some refinement.

Also, Dominguez and Cousins are on absolute fire right now.

Man Livan wanted no part of Stanton that second at bat. Crazy to see him getting respect from pitchers at age 20.

Brett Hayes with a hit. Liking the depth at catcher.

The Marlins did give Maybin a chance this year and was horrible. It's not like they've been jerking him around between the minors and majors and never giving him a shot. He really hasn't done anything in the majors in the past 2 years to earn any real playing time. Again though he's still pretty young and he just is too good for the minor leagues, it's strange.

No, an actual full season. There is really nothing else he can learn in the minors. He needs to take his lumps and get past them or be parted with. We cant play this game with him forever.

What game are we playing with him? We had playoff aspirations and the dude didn't perform. We've handed him a starting spot twice now and both times he's been more than awful.

We're getting to that point now. Time to put up or shut up.

With the numbers he was putting up in, he'd make Jeff Francoeur a HOFer in comparison. Like Mainge said you can't give a guy a full season if he's putting up a .225/.290/.341 if you're fighting for a playoff spot and even if you're not fighting for a playoff spot it's hard to really justify playing someone that's a black hole in the line up. If the guy wasn't playing above average defense he'd be almost worthless in his MLB career this far. If he wasn't still only 23 years old he probably would have been cut by now.

I mean we can all talk about his talents until we're blue in the face but at some point the guy needs to perform, even a little bit showing the Marlins brass something positive at the MLB level at the plate.

Until we get better starting pitching consistancy and the bullpen stays consistant we aren't competing for a playoff spot.

But then you send him down to the Minor leagues, and he does what he always does, kills minor league pitching.

He may struggle, but eventually we have to put up with his struggles. What's the point of sending him down to the minor leagues if we know he's going to kill it?

I don't have an answer for you, maybe the Marlins have to just give up on him, which is a shame because he is still young but they can't continue to play someone everyday that puts up the numbers he is at the MLB level. Something isn't working with him, maybe it's the hitting coach, maybe he just can't hit MLB level pitching, maybe he just loses focus, maybe he needs to move to a new team for a fresh start, who knows. But I don't think you just play the kid to play him especially if he puts up such poor numbers (and even if he dominates the minors) but then it could mess with his confidence, if it hasn't already. The ultimate goal is to win baseball games and the Marlins, with him in the line up, have almost 2 automatic outs between him and the pitcher's spot. It's hard to win games that way. Again it's not like he wasn't getting consistent playing time, he was playing nearly everyday and putting up bad numbers.

Plus who should he play over? You certainly can't give him playing time over Stanton, Morrison or Ross. Maybin hasn't shown at signs that he could be a productive MLB hitter, he doesn't hit for any power, he doesn't steal, he doesn't hit, he doesn't get on base, what good is he really? Yeah he has talent but he needs to produce or he's worthless, which he has been in his MLB career. Maybe he will never reach his potential, it happens. You can't just assume that giving him a full year will turn him into the player he 'should' be, don't you think he should earn it? The Marlins did hand him the CF job but he didn't give them a reason to keep it.

Ross is gone next year, so that opens a spot for Maybin.

We just need to leave him in there to sink or swim. For the past two seasons, he's sucked in the majors, and killed the minors. Now, like Mainge said, he needs to put up or shut up.

    Mike Stanton is sexy.

JJ, I'm disappointed man. In a way, I'm kind of glad he had a bad game today. Less pressure for me as a fan to see if he will win the Cy Young.

God, we suck bad sometimes. 0-33 in RISP in our last few games.

The bright side is, we should have a top 10 pick next season in a draft that I read is pretty deep.

    Edit: Never mind, Yelich signed.

It looks like the Giants put in a waiver claim for Ross to prevent the Padres from getting him.

Question: how the **** was Ross waived in the first place? We actually cut him? Or is there some messed-up MLB roster rule that allowed the Giants to just take him from our roster? This is insane.

All players are put on waivers after the trading deadline. The original team has the option to pull him back, work out a trade for a players on the other teams waiver wire, or just give the player away.

The Marlins' rich tradition of giving away its players is still alive. Except this time, it's happening in slow motion.

The worst part is that I knew Bozo the Art Clown would do it and I was still caught off-guard.

Agreed, he probably was going to be non-tendered in the off season much like Hermida would have been if he wasn't traded to Boston. This seems like a money issue so they can save a few bucks before the end of the year. You have to assume the Marlins couldn't really get much for Ross at the trade deadline.

It really signals that the FO has truly given up. Do you think they play Maybin back at center and give him some more reps? Also glad to see Miller was effective today.

All this hype for Ross leaving? Really? Yea, let's ignore the fact that ANDREW MILLER, of all people, gave us a good start, because Cody Ross is now gone.

This season is over. We have to see what we have for next season. By giving the Giants Ross, we save 1.1 million, which is quite an amount, and play Maybin. Win-win, IMO. Plus, we can always bring back Ross next season...at a lower price.
