I was taught to only boo bad sportsmanship or lack of effort. I believe booing for other reasons is classless, but in my experience that is a minority opinion. So while I agree that we should support them, I expect that a large number of fans feel differently and that RWs is not likely to get that positive atmosphere he is hoping for.
I agree with you. He said asking questions aloud whilst they are meeting with coaches and fans booing when a mistake was made, was the issue. I don't think that's something we, as a fan base, should be doing but that's just my two cents. They get crap everywhere else they go; why should we, who are fans of the players, give them crap at home?
Booing players at training camp is classless. Not even I would do that.... There is nothing wrong with RW sending a couple of instructions to the fans who don't know how to behave themselves. I like it.
I'll take it a step further and go back to 2007 when fans were wearing bags on their heads at the games. If you feel that way about the team then don't support them at all. What kind of a person wears a bag on their head at a football game. That was a good way to make a real *** of yourself. If there is anyone here who did that well screw you. No team needs fans like that. There I said it....whew
I used to work as an usher at the stadium (years ago) and the predominant attitude I saw was "I paid for my ticket so I have the right to be as obnoxious as I want". It was less prevalent at camp, maybe b/c you didn't pay to get in, but you'd often see a guy whom a large number of fans got on for every miscue. Back in those days Fiedler got a lot of that. I imagine that Ginn faced the same the last few years, although I never attended a camp with Ginn there.
What knuckleheads were out there interrupting practice and, of all things, booing? I don't understand that at all. Cmon these guys are at work. There is a time and place for everything and clearly this was the time for neither.
I have never booed a single player in my life, and I have been watch sports since a we pup.....I scream and yell dont get me wrong, I get mad that said players or the team cant execute, but booing..nah never done it..
Boo's should be saved for those deserving. Such as Joey Harrington, Ray Lucas and Nick Satan... I can't think of anyone since Ted Ginn Jr. worth booing, LOL!
Not always. I support the team. If someone is playing bad and it effects the team I will boo. Some people get too conected with players (ginn) and defended him just because he was a dolphin. Screw that Ian a fan of the logo. Not the player.
I would guess that you're in the minority. As this thread progresses you'll see more and more posters who feel justified in booing players whom they don't like or are performing poorly, even if they're trying hard. I don't agree with that and I don't think it helps the team in any way, but to each his own.
I mean it is a hallmark of sports in general that will never go away...hell I remember being at Yankee Stadium several years ago, when they boo'd Jeter, the year when he went like 1-for-June....but I dont get it....it isnt like Ricky tried to fumble 3X in one game last year...I will just get mad at the fact he couldnt hold onto the ball..
I agree, it will never go away. I just don't see how it helps the team at all. In fact, I believe it hurts the team. IMO all it helps is the fan vent, but the fan is doing that at the expense of the team. It seems to me that a fan is at that point acting against the team, so that would seem to be the opposite of being a fan. But that's JMO and rationality has never been a hallmark of fan behavior. I think that was what RW was trying to express.
Oh, it can be remedied. I'm with RW on this. If the fans can't conduct themselves respectfully, closed practices would get their attention.
I can say that too. well...with the exception of JB Brown, and he never heard it because it was directed through my TV.
Bottom line, you do not boo the team you cheer for ever. I don't care if the score is 100 - 0 and you are losing, there is just no reason to. If someone wants to be a fair-weather fan go root for the reigning SB champs, or stay home.
I can relate to that. I used to flip off Reggie Howard through the TV every time he got burned. When Thurman Thomas played for us I'd scream run you little fuggin' a-hole.
I'm the cheering type whether I've gone to a practice or a live game.I don't want to distract them from doing what their supposed(need) to do to prepare for the season. Unfortunately there are people that are obnoxious, ask questions, boo, ridicule to a point of distraction.Security needs to handle the bad ones. I understand what Ricky must be going thru but he needs to block it out. When we go to say Baltimore and New Jersey this year, what does he do then? What does the team do? They block it out and concentrate on the the game. Love ya' Ricky,but........
the only players i really hated in recent memory were a handful of our QBs since Marino. And I wouldnt have boooed any of them at the stadium. I might have cursed with my friends when Ray Lucas or John Beck or Daunte Culpepper were playing but I wouldnt manufacture a booooo at the top of my lungs to make a point. The guys are trying to the best of their ability and it just seems self serving to boo players. As if any of us could do better
Voicing there displeasure by booing might not help but thats not the intention. Usually a fan who boo's is thinking it will help to motivate the athletes to 'wake up' and get pissed off and do better. Maybe it does the opposite to some, maybe it works for others. Its also one of the only ways a fan can voice there displeasure. Its not like a fan can have a talk with the owner of a team and due to that constraint they feel like booing is a form of voicing there displeasure to the coaches, the owner etc. Since 'write a letter' doesn't usually cut it.
Yeah I agree that at practice though thats insane. During a game...hrmmm it would have to be during a performance that really screams out a lack of effort and an attitude of 'who cares' by the team to deserve boo's.
Chalk me up as another person that says boo'ing at free practices is classless. If you want to boo at a game, I have no problem with that since you paid for a ticket and can root for who/how you please.
