Movin' on up on the strength of those 3 sacks, now can he stay there?

I forgot to mention this, but in the video of Joe Berger I posted, Nate Garner is playing at left guard in both of those games.

Just in case anyone wants to take a look.

It would not surprise me if Garner and Berger were our Starting Guards.

OmarK posted a Ikaika Francis piece:

Ike and RGM are the only two left on Sparano Island.

I thought Garner did real good in the game time he got last year (all over the line), so I wouldn't be worried too much if he wound up starting. I'd really like Jerry to start, but can understand if he doesn't as a rookie.

Jerry is a nice insurance policy in case Garner or Carey go down, maybe both, as he is a tackle naturally but they like him at Guard as well.

Going off of his college tape, I would say that Jerry must become better at sustaining his leg drive. He is in his element when he is asked to execute short pulls.

This is like the 'Break In Case of Emergency" fire extinguisher. The "Ok Dan, go out and win it for us" concession from Jimmy.

They tried to get more power in there. But it seems that Saturday's scrimmage scared the hell out of them. They will not go into Week 3 vs Rex Ryan's defense without addressing those problems at guard.

Exactly, tonight is huge for Garner as if he plays well in the scrimmage it could cement his role as a Starter..if his foot injury did not rob him of too much of his power.

    Charles Grant..Training Camp Super Hero.

Have to chuckle at Sean Smith..."hola mamasita!"

Maybe that is his new nickname?

I knew it was only a matter of time before Nate Garner would be starting at LG
but as usual no one ever listens.
the guy has the size, power and the smarts that Coach loves.
with both of our tackle positions being locks and that being Garner's natural position you still can't keep the guy off the field.

Careful Killahp, Garner v Grant is a bad matchup for Garner.

I know how much you are rooting for Grant. I am too and to prove himself and make this team he will have to prove he can rush inside and he said himself he is playing in a new system having never been in a 3-4 at all ever. Garner started on this line last year.
I wouldn't quite say it is a mismatch my friend.
    Not under those circumstances.

Grant is a desperate, healthy Vet, Garner has maybe 8 career starts and is coming off of a toe surgery that is why I say Grant has an advantage over Garner.

the toe is healed padre. i don't think it will be an issue however a guy playing in a new system just might have to think a little more about what he is doing. that is why grant is falling behind here in the first place. in a 4-3 he would prolly be a lock.

I've been high on Roberto W's measurables, 6'5 4.4 40, don't know if they can practice squad him without being poached though, especially if he has he ball skills that Sparano is mentioning.

Sparano loves Pennington, seriously, I've heard many many things about Chadwick..but "impressed by his throws" is rarely one of them.

    Sparano loves him some Penny..

Heads up to those planning on attending tonight's scrimmage

that would suck for those who attended, it would be the second time this has happened and they really hyped this practice.

The question with Wallace is what does he bring to special teams? Can he be a 4 core guy? If so he's got a legitimate shot. That 5th WR has to be a solid special teams contributor. Has Wallace gotten any returner work?

Not AFAIK, however the ST role could be filled by Nolan Carroll, especially if he can return kicks, then Cobbs and Hilliard play on the Specials, and Wallace has a do nothing roster slot.

N Carroll playing well opens an incredible amount of Roster options.

Saw that, at the time I'd thought they pulled him from the game because he was playing so well they couldn't practice squad him.

Roberto has great measurements, and I am glad to here he is going so hard after contested balls, but the little bit I read about him pre/post draft was that he wasn't a natural catcher (ie he'd often "fight" the ball). Obviously we should see whether the proof is in the pudding during the first 2 preseasons games, but I'm a little leery of how he will do still.

Thanks, I've made no bones about RGM being "my guy" as the returner, especially after Sheets went down, but there is so much talent at Wr in the UDFa's that even if RGM doesn't make the roster and Nolan Carroll does, it is no real downgrade, if anything Carroll could obsolete Jason Allen.

Jason Allen would make for excellent trade bait to places like the Titans, Lions, Falcons, anyone who needs a cb who has some experience but wouldn't cost a mint in draft picks.

Titans are trying Tye Hill at Cb..and of course he is injured already.

Exactly, not so much the 2nd/3rd team defense this yr, last yr Cam Wake was must see TV for me, this yr...Ike Francis, Charles Grant, Carrol and Reshad Jones...and believe it or not, JD Folsom.

But the offense..Thiggy v White..RGM..Roberto Wallace, Tristan Davis..and a whole slew of other players that I really wish to see play even in preseason game #1.
