Dude has a lower career ERA in the AL than in the NL, a respectable 3.64. I wouldn't give up that package AZ wanted either but he is a good (and relatively cheap) option.

We'll give you Nolasco for Joba .

Good series now between Tribe and Yankees - Yankees can get a good look at Santana and Choo - who they'll be signing in the next 5 years I'm sure.

Tribe has been y'alls farm team lately!

    Well away from here
What is up with him? Didn't he have Les Franc or something? I wish he were here too, it would make the rotation very, very good.

I don't think we have a legitimate answer for a future closer. They've tried to give Joba the job by letting be the setup guy, but he just can't duplicate his delivery consistently. This team needs a starter to replace Pettite and some relievers to replace Rivera and bolster the unit.

I think the answer is to replace Andy with Lee.....They will give Robertson, Joba, Boone, and Aba all a shot until someone wins it, plus they are trying to get Downs, whihc would be an ideal 8th inning guy, and possible closer...

Closer Con, yeah thats a HUGE problem if Rivera retires after this year....who Papelbon?? I pity the guy coming into those shoes...

Oh and Wang injuried himself running the basepaths during interleague, they didnt sign him back, the Nats picked him up, and he hasnt pitched yet this year....its sad...2 straight years of 19 won games, down the toliet...

Yeah its sad that he ruined his career running the bases...I do think the yankees rushed him to come back. But man 2 straight 19 win seasons and bam gets a hit against the Astros and he is out.

WTF!!!! Why Soria not as easy to pitch in NY, as it is in KC......screw this guy making the Yankees renegotiating his deal in order to go to NY....we dont need you!!!
    Yankees On Soria's No-Trade List

By Tim Dierkes [July 27 at 1:40pm CST]
The Yankees are one of six teams on the no-trade list of Royals closer Joakim Soria, reports ESPN's Andrew Marchand. We learned yesterday that the Yankees made a "big proposal" for Soria, even dangling Jesus Montero, but the Royals were not interested.
Marchand notes that in the unlikely event the Royals and Yankees do reach an agreement for Soria, the no-trade clause might simply provide leverage for the pitcher. Maybe that means he requires all three club options to be picked up or even a contract restructuring, but we're getting ahead of ourselves.

this is just comical.....seriously why bother even asking.....? it is almost insulting, and makes you not want to be bothered...

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Blue Jays asked the Yankees for top prospect Jesus Montero in exchange for left-hander Scott Downs.

That's not gonna happen. This, on the heels of the Jays reportedly asking the Red Sox for top prospects Casey Kelly or Jose Iglesias. Either the Jays are reluctant to trade inside the division or they are completely irrational.

I thnk i read on MLB trade rumors, that the Jays are absolutely against trading within the division and if they did it would take a kings ransom.
I would personally like to have jose bautista, but not for a king's ransom.

On the other note every team that wants to trade with the yankees hikes up the price. If you look at the price the angels paid for Haren, you would see the chips are a hellavu lot weaker than what they were asking the yankees to pay. With Cliff Lee, the mariners took the yankees offer (in principal) and shopped it. Thats not only dirty, thats just wrong....IM glad it happend though, because i would much rather pay Cliff Lee long term, then give away loads of talent for him, then have to pay him long term on top of it.

That's baseball and if you didn't try to get the best possible offer with the appropriate leverage, you'd be fired. I agree though that it worked out for the best. Signing Lee in the off-season while keeping a special talent in Montero would be a fantastic series of moves for the Yankees.

I agree with you with everything you said, unless of course if the Yankees and Mariners had a verbal commitment. Then it would have been bush on Seattle's part. However it's not like the Yankees (or other teams) haven't been a little unethical in making/talking deals before either.

Switch hitter.....good numbers this year so far, high OBP...who are they giving up thou.?? Please dont say nove, or monterio...

The New York Post's Joel Sherman is hearing that Lance Berkman is on the verge of being traded to the Yankees.

Buster Olney chimed in moments later with a note that talks were advancing quickly. Berkman could block the deal if he wants to, but there's been no word about that yet. Berkman is at the ballpark in Houston at the moment. According to Alyson Footer, he feels there's a "decent possibility" he'll be traded, but that, to his knowledge, nothing has happened yet.

I heard that Berkman wants to be with the yanks or no one else. His best friend in baseball is Andy Pettitte... I think the yankes would only be giving up lower level prospects as the astros have been interested in the 2nd baseman that the mariners were concerned about in the lee deal. David adams i think.

    Deal Done Yanks acquire Berkman

    Yankees Acquire Lance Berkman
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 30 at 5:09pm CST]
5:09pm: The deal is done and Berkman has approved it, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The Yankees have to wait 24 hours before the deal is officially complete because of Berkman's ten and five rights.

    picked up Austin Kearns

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AtXLbRfNeBg5XT1Xk0SPkWw5nYcB?slug=ap-yankees-berkman

Kearns left Cleveland’s game at Toronto in the seventh inning and was traded to the Yankees for a player to be named or cash. The former first-round draft pick is hitting .272 with eight homers and 42 RBIs.

“A corner outfielder that gives us depth and experience,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “A right-handed bat that has power. We can use him a lot of different ways. It will give me a chance to rest our left-handed guys.”

Kearns will join the Yankees on Saturday.

So the additions of Berkman, Kearns, and Wood for Cash or lesser prospects all seem like reasonable additions.....dropping 2 out of 3 to Rays is typical inside the AL East back and forth battles....the telltale signs of the above moves being positive or negative wont be seen for several weeks. Its still about the pressure of NY and performance in clutch situations to either gets the fans behind you, or chew you up and spit you out.

Would think Kearns addition would ultimately lead to less time for Thames...but he kills leftys compared to Kearns (which is interesting as both are righties); and Woods needs to throw strikes, but this helps slide Joba to a situational role where hopefully he can simply focus on 1 key out vs setting up Mo during this shaky stretch.

We still need to get Marte back from DL for Lefty out of pen.......same with Andy to stabilize the rotation!

Berkman can wake up and rake and will be solid #2 man in lineup...but has to deliver a few clutch hits for his own confidence - let alone get the fans on his side, etc.

AROD please hit 600 soon so you can stop looking like a tool why you let this build up and bury you. My goodness you forget to hit singles let alone HRs.

    Can u imagine??

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox nearly traded Mike Lowell to the Yankees last week in a three-team swap.

The deal also included the Rangers, though it's not clear what they would have received or how exactly they were involved. Lowell, 36, is 11-for-22 with four home runs on his current rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket and could still be dealt via waivers. For now he remains in limbo.

This team is struggling right now, no pitching, no clutch hitting, A-Rod is going into playoff press mode we all come to know over a stupid home run...

Going into this year, the one glaring difference with this years team, and last year, was the clutch hitting, they balked at Matsui for Nick Johnson, Damon ehh the money was on the table he didnt take it....and Melky....say what you want about Melky, but I liked him, played a good outfield, and hit everybody above avg, not to mention had the most walk off hits for them last year, for Granderson?? None of these guys they got this offseason can hit in the clutch, and you are seeing it over the past couple weeks.....nevermind the playoffs when there is real pitching...

I'm just saying I wouldnt get too excited about this team going forward...it is pretty much at full strength and this is who they are...just something I have noticed all year..

huge series this weekend. if we were somehow able to sweep boston we could basically end their season. sadly our pitching rotation is vasquez, sabbathia and burnett so its doubtful. gotta root for two out of three

Its a 4-game series. The Sox have to find a way to take 3 of 4 -- as a split simply won't be good enough. They need to make hay in their matchups with New York and Tampa down the stretch.

A great performance tonight from Buchholz would go a long way towards escaping New York with their season still alive.

ahh thanks. thought it was three. yeah, the dynamic now changes to taking 3 out of 4. i think tonight's game will set the tone. i think you guys have the pitching matchup you need to start off on a good foot. hopefully our bats can overcome it

Realistically, if you're a Yankee fan you're rooting for at least a split, anything else is obviously great, but a split would still be damaging to the Red Sox who really need to pick up ground. Realistically the Red Sox need to take at least 3 games, anything less would hurt and a sweep would definitely end the season.
