all of what you say is true but why would you get a 37 year old for a team that is a minimum 3 years from the SuperBowl. Unless the coaching staff has written some receivers off and then even then you could get someone younger. They've all shown promise. Why would you cut one of them for someone who will be around a year or two? Better to have them bust and replace with a younger vet or another rookie next year

Who is getting cut in favor of Terrell Owens? Todd Watkins or Yamon Figurs? Don't cry for them, Argentina.

And what coach/front office goes into a season thinking that a Super Bowl is so impossible this year that we might as well not even try and add talent?

I assure you, they believe they can win a Super Bowl this year. They have talent just like everyone else. They believe in their coach even if the rest of us do not. They have a high profile backfield, just traded for a QB that has performed pretty darn good at times, their head coach was a former OL coach and he's actually had that unit performing well despite what some perceive as a lack of talent, they have John Henderson and Richard Seymour on the DL, they just drafted Rolando McClain which is being universally agreed upon as probably the best Raiders draft choice in years, and if Nnamdi Asomugha isn't quite the absolute single best corner in the league anymore, he's still probably in the top 3 or 5 at worst.

Everyone's got talent, everyone thinks they can compete, you don't sit there and make decisions not to add talent on the basis of, "We suck anyway."

Not adding Terrell Owens specifically because of who is already on the WR roster would best exemplify the "convenient truths" that Bill Walsh once explained to Mike Lombardi. I can hear Bill Walsh now. "You don't need a wide receiver? Really. I'm sure."

    Personally,

I see it as a very low risk proposition at this point. He would have a short leash....and I think Henne is MORE than confident and strong enough to handle TO. So...if it were to happen...eh...we would see what happens in TC.

I dont see it however, because really, he wouldnt offer us anything. He's not a deep threat, and thats what this team truly needs. I wouldnt play TO over Bess, Hartline, or Cam and certainly wouldnt take passes from the Marshall. Can he block? Maybe we could play him at TE? ( I jest......kinda....)

Just from a football viewpoint, I dont see it.

After just arguing how crappy the Oakland WRs are and how nobody on that roster serves as a good enough reason to not add a Terrell Owens, it's going to sound snobby to say that Miami doesn't need Owens, but it's the truth.

Last year Terrell Owens produced 1.56 yards per pass play. He caught 55 balls and dropped an additional 10 balls, which means he dropped one out of every 6.5 catchable balls.

Look at Miami's roster. Brian Hartline produced 2.00 yards per pass play, and his drop rate was nearly half of Owens' (one out of every 11.3 catchable balls). Davone Bess produced 1.97 yards per pass play, and his drop rate was at 11.9 catchable balls. And of course Brandon Marshall in 2009 produced 2.24 yards per pass play, and his drop rate was 13.6.

I think that Owens would probably be an upgrade over the 2009 version of Greg Camarillo, who only dropped one out of every 26.0 catchable balls, but who also only produced 1.31 yards per pass play. However, is that fair to Camarillo? Because, in 2008 when he was more healthy he produced 1.85 yards per pass play, and of course his drop rate was still ridiculously low.

Was that a function of his QB? Maybe, but even in 2008 with Tony Romo his numbers were 1.75 and 7.9, respectively. I think he'd probably be an upgrade on some of the players we do have right now, but not much of one. If I'm snobbish about the guys out in Oakland it's because their numbers were generally atrocious.
