We all know Crowder can't cover. That's obvious. Dobbins wasn't brought in to push Crowder. He adds depth. A bottom of the roster guy who is good on ST. Not a starter. Crowder is a starter, and has proven to be a good player in this league.

Note: Not saying Dobbins can't push Crowder for a starting gig. It's all competition down in Miami. Just don't get your hopes up.

I hope this is not true. While CC may be thought of as not the best LB in a Dolphins uniform he is far from being the worse! I hate to see anyone on our team hurt because everyone has a spot to fill plus the loss of competition means someone may get handed a job before being ready!

Your really underestimating this. It isn't being said yet because they obviously do not want it being a constant distraction, but this is definitely an open competition between Dobbins/Crowder. In case you missed it Sparano already stated they will find plays for him in the defense...he didn't know exactly where...just that they would. I have a feeling when training camp opens were going to see some fairly even splitting of snaps between the two. People forget that they were well prepared to let Channing leave in FA until he accepted that fairly weak contract after his so called 'career year' (Only a 3 year $13.8 million contract that relies on incentives he surely isn't earning much of). Dobbins just signed a contract worth roughly 75% of Crowders.

Quite frankly it's a good thing. Crowder's been allowed to coast by on potential for years. Although I think the team was really hoping Torbor would show more then he did when they signed him. Channing's going to have to put up a hell of a fight to keep his starting job and even then put up a heck of a year to not be targeted for replacement next year.

Dobbins was good enough to be a starter in San Diego. He definitely will be fighting to start here. People are really underestimating Dobbins.

I'm glad this thread has de-railed into other topics for a second I was worried at the possibility that there are really 86 posts about some Jets beat writer's idiotic and irresponsible mis-reporting.

I'm worried that Crowder might be on a downslope and that his 2009 was part of it. A guy with his knee history, he could easily fizzle out in his late 20's as opposed to his 30's where you might see other players fall off.

Arguably, Tim Dobbins was flat out better in 2009 than Channing Crowder. He made as many plays in like two-thirds of the playing time.

Channing's never been one of those guys that takes particularly good care of his body IMO. He's never been the six-pack abs guy. We'll see if that's changing. Good sign that he bought Zach's hyperbaric chamber. But maybe a bad sign that he's feeling so physically beat up that he finally felt the impetus to go that far. I kept preaching to people that Channing had a way better 2008 than he was given credit for, but now I think he's gone ahead in 2009 and had a much worse year, full of injuries and less than stellar play. He's not the healthiest guy in the world so that's a big red flag.

Luckily I do think both Dobbins and Edds are ascending players and we can see where they take us. Miami has some options here.

Crowder's physical detoriation combined with not being able to train his legs this offseason, { I have to believe he was'nt doing any explosive plyometrics or squats with screws in his foot} leads me to believe that his body will let him down.... just not strong enough for the position anymore imo.
