Woodson has gotten tested more than the other two.

I have not seen bracket coverage often on Revis side of the field.

That's what I did in my post.

They are going to have to pay both. Why let a pretty good LT walk? The market is always high for them, the prices are always high. They were going to pay this much eventually.

Apparently you didn't read my post well either or you didn't read it in the context of this discussion.

Revis was a top 3 corner under MANGINI. That was 2-3 years ago and the guy was in his 1st and 2nd years in the NFL and a top 3 corner. He had an overhaul of a defensive system and got better.

Maybe it was the defensive scheme as you claim. Maybe it's just because CBs mature after their rookie and sophomore seasons. We all know how much progress CBs go through after their first couple seasons.

Is it inconceivable to think that Revis went from a top 3 CB in his 2nd year, to being the best in his 3rd year without the need for a new defensive scheme? That was my point

No, he wasn't. When Mangini was still coaching the Jets, Revis was firmly behind the likes of Champ Bailey, Marcus Trufant, and Antoine Winfield.

Inconceivable? No. Do we know that it happened? No, because he gets safety help so often that it's tough to gauge the extent of his personal improvement. For an elite CB the guy gets burned quite a bit by the most unlikely players.

I'm really sad to see this forum buying into New York media myths to this extent.

Champ Bailey was hurt half of the 2008 season. He had 3 PDef and 1 Int.

In 2007 and 2008, Revis had more PDefs in both years, equal or more INTs in both years, and more tackles in both years.

Now I know that stats don't tell the whole story especially with CBs, but surely Bailey was not better than Revis in either of those years. And Revis was in his first 2 seasons!

I won't go fetch the stats for the other 2 guys because I'm lazy, but saying Champ Bailey has been better than Darrelle Revis the past few seasons just seems like sour grapes from a rival fan.

With this I can somewhat agree. But it goes way beyond New York media. This guy gets more National Media coverage than any other defenisive player in the league

Champ Bailey was better than Darrelle Revis until 2009, when Revis' performance in Ryan's scheme bumped him up to the top of the second tier of CBs.

When I compare players, I don't include just that year. I compare what they've done over the last few years or even their entire careers. Bodies of work are more important to me than recent accomplishments. Larger data sets results in better information.

I agree desides, but devils advocate in me says, it is also important to take recent play into affect as well, because the tide always turns...especially in football...

Yes, you weight recent play, but you don't discount past play.

Again stats do not tell the whole store, but based on stats it's not even close

    2007 Darrelle Revis > 2007 Champ Bailey
    2008 Darrelle Revis > 2008 Champ Bailey

    2007 Darrelle Revis > 2007 Antoine Winfield
    2008 Darrelle Revis > 2008 Antoine Winfield

Darrelle Revis under Mangini was better than Champ Bailey and Antoine Winfield in those years, 2007 and 2008.

The doubling of a wide receiver. Either you take away the inside/outside or inside/down field.

The notion that Revis gets as much safety help as others is bizarre imo, watching him play tells me he needs it the least amount of time...not sure why a coach would scheme any differently...The guy covers his man and plays off his cushion better then anyone in the game, both equal less safety help.

I can't find it, but I remember watching NFL Matchup, and Jaws agreed with Desides. He called the "Revis Island" a myth, and that he gets too much help to have his own island.

    I'm trying to find it.

It's an easy way for opposing fans to claim he isn't as good as he really is.

    No worries

Jaws agrees he has a ton of safety help but Woodson says he doesn't and calls him the best he's seen since Sanders.

    lol.

    I'll go with Woodson.
