If NO trades Paul, they'd essentially be dumping him for a lot less than he's worth.

Nope, no cap space. Garnett, Perkins and Rondo still on the books for big bucks. Perkins by the way is out about 5-6 months...

In other news, the knicks are working hard on a S&T for Joe Johnson at around the Jr Max level. Curry, Wilson Chandler and Bill Walker rumored...

Atlanta owner selling their team, their arena, and the Atlanta Thrashers...

    That could get interesting.

Didnt know Tyson Chandler had an opt out:

Bobcats center Tyson Chandler has decided not to opt out of the final year of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent.
Chandler stands to make $12.7 million next year, far more than he would have otherwise earned. He is confident that he's healthy and ready to return to his prime form, but we'll believe it when we see it.
    Source: AP

    - Amare officially opted out
    - Knicks linked to Luke Ridnour
    - Doc Rivers coming back in 2010-2011 to coach Celtics
    - Heat still trying to deal Beasley, Knicks still trying to unload Curry.

Too bad about Chandler but a smart choice on his end. No way was he getting close to what he'd be leaving on the table.

They'd definitely require young talent with at least star potential. If not, then that franchise should be moved down to the D-League.

    Woj on Wfan:

Said nyk will come out of this with at least two good players but may not be lebron.

Believes James dolan is a big red flag for free agents. Can't argue with him since the guy is a putz.

Thinks prohkorov putting a billboard with him and jay z across the street from the garden was kinda obnoxious. If the nyets get lebron they may as well put him in the picture with a middle finger in my opinion.

Thinks Chicago is the favorite for lebron but its possible no one in the media has it right.

Either way I'm done listening to the dartboard media predictions...

Owner is broke (relatively speaking). Needs to sell the team. A lot easier to sell a team that has little to no salary obligations.

Sources say 3 way trade between #Bucks #Cavs #Nets. Redd to Cavs, Harris to Bucks, Ilyasova, Jamison to Nets. Possible more involved.

This is a cap shedding deal for Cleveland that portends one thing or another. Cap shedding to make trades to remake the team because Lebron has requested it......or because Lebron is gone.

Clearing out cap space to me means they're going to rebuild the team without LeBron. There's no reason to suddenly try to clear out space now when they've had all this time unless they think they need to.

Thats desperation on the Cavs part to either upgrade the supporting cast for Lebron or an admission that hes not staying. Cant see the Nyets doing that though. Why would they give up a good PG in his prime for none defense playing Jamison?

    Some other interesting notes:
    - Richard Jefferson opted out of a 15.2M option year (idiot). What that may mean is that the Curry/Chandler for Parker deal may happen since SF is now a huge hole for San Antonio.
    - Knicks have planes going in different directions supposedly. I'm sure the Heat and Bulls are doing the same.

    Two things on the Knicks:
    - Donnie Walsh is actually going to be meeting with Lebron in a wheelchair. Don't know whats wrong but if Lebron is going to want a long standing relationship with a GM that could impact his decision
    - How is Walt Frazier not the one meeting with lebron? He played 2 years in Cleveland, won a championship in NY, and was voted one of the 50 greatest of all time. He announces Knick games and by sending him Houston and Starks all of whom have positions within the Knicks, you would show Lebron that Wade's concern's about what was said about the Chicago organization are valid. It would help to differentiate you from other teams about how you treat your players post basketball...If they dont land lebron this is going to bug me.

Even though I could be wrong, I think it's more like when they don't land Lebron than -IF-

It's looking heavily like Bosh ends up in Miami, which means if Lebron goes to New York he's not only betraying his home town but also doing it for the SAME situation he was in before. If Lebron has ambitions in life he doesn't need the city of New York to accomplish them, he already has the money and the sponsorships (and I'd assume the connections) to make it happen for himself.

IMO He ends up in either Miami or Cleveland, probably Cleveland but I can dream Miami right?

Other great players have left cleveland for NY...the aforementioned Walt Frazier comes to mind.

Also, Toronto does not want deng back as part of any S&T deals.

Richard Jefferson is an idiot for opting out of 15 million, and any team that gives him more than mid level money as well.

Agreed on part one, not so much part two.

Either way I think it's Cleveland most likely. Imagine you grew up in Miami, became the most hyped up player in history and were drafted by the Dolphins. Oh and Miami can offer you the most money in free agency.

    Would you leave?

If all their entire pitch was "be loyal to the city", then yes. He might stay in Cleveland, but they better have a plan if they want to keep him.

Its not like he cant win with that team. In fact if he goes to New York....or any other team really except Miami, he's leaving for the same situation he already has. Which is my point.

The question is going to be whether his love for his hometown is bigger than his desire to win a championship.

Well looks like LeBron is listening to me even if he never knew I said it. Looks as if he is signing back with the Cavs for possibly 3 years. What that tells me is he wants to see what the Knicks, Nets, and Bulls look like in the future.

    I don't want to be a prick...but I will.

Everybody keeps saying how great it is going to be when the Brooklyn arena opens and how fabulous it is going to be,

I was in brooklyn almost 4 years ago. it was a ****hole then. Have things changed that much?

is it just a moderate ****hole now?

I just think LeBron wants to be the leader on his team. Wade is the Leader of the Heat, LeBron doesn't want to take a back seat.

We'll see I'll comeback and say I'm wrong about LeBron staying in Cleveland but I'm confident he wont be wearing a Heat uni.

Yes, it has. It's kind of going into a revival. Is it perfect, no.

They really think the arena will help the neighborhood businesses.

I would rather go into Brooklyn than Bronx.

Let's be honest, ESPN is trying to take solace in what they hope is a New York victory over a Miami team. Sort of how they hope NBA free agency plays out.

When I think Brooklyn I think Jay-Z & Do The Right Thing.

If that tickles the fancy of an NBA superstar over South Beach, then.... I mean Jay-Z is GOAT material and that's a Spike Lee classic but....

Then June 30th at 545? No.

Way to buy the media hype. Hes not playing in Newark for 2 year for a team coming off a 12 win season that cant afford two max players.

its better then it was even two years ago. Like NJ said, not perfect but not a complete dump. But like I said above, hes not leaving a 60 win team for a 12 win team that cant afford two max. With the Knicks at least hes looking at bringing a player with him and the possibility of either a S&T this year with Curry's contract or possibly another max next year when Curry expires...Of course theyd have to create just a few million more but you get the picture.

Are you kidding? ESPN has done nothing but take one huge crap all over the Knicks the entire last 6 months leading up to free agency. Broussard, Stein, Bucher, Legler, Adande, Wilbon, Kornheiser, Hollinger all of em. Ive said it all along...Lebron and Bosh will be playing in MSG next year as the home team. If Johnson wants to join via S&T be my guest.

I haven't even seen Chris Bosh's name linked to the Knicks.

And unlike every other free agent, he's personally named potential destinations.

No chance he ends up in New York. It's Miami or Chicago.

Which is why they've basically associated the Knicks with every free agent as a likely possibility, right? Come on, Boik. ESPN's coverage of NBA free agency has centered on answering the question "Who will go to the Knicks?" with a little bit of "Who will go to Chicago so that Miami will get screwed?" on the side.

    two things:
    1) I didn't say I believed the report, just posted it.
    2) two without giving up wade I don't really see how the heat could "blow that offer out of the water". At the same stage in their careers gallinari's stats compare favorably to dirk.

Chicago certainly gives him a better chance to win than Cleveland. The problem with Cleveland is they don't have much flexibility to bring in anyone with LeBron. Even if he goes to NY, they could bring someone else with him.
