That may be true, it may not be true, but I know that what Jim Reid said in that video had no real direct bearing on whether it is or not. You just read too much into it, and your 'gist' of what he said is a misquote.

Does anyone get as pissed as I knowing that he should of been on the field more last year..I mean there were obvious situations where he was completely underutilized, while a lot of us just screamed at the tv in futility...duh Pascoloni, obvious pass situation, enter Cam wake, its not like the kid was a rook, he's a 27 year old elite pass rusher...what a waste...no wonder he got whacked.

I will take my chances with his elite athleticism when it comes to pass coverage, my main concern is reading the run play, botttom line, just get the freak on the field, so we know what we got, once we know what we got, I have no problems with him being just a pass rush specialist, cause I think his reps could be tripled in just that dept from last year with the right coaching..

I would love to see his reps when the opponent ran on us when he was in there...it seems he likes to rush to a spot, with pure focus on beating the tackle {eyes on tackle only}...I have'nt seen the rush playing with his head up and his eyes wide, so he could be very suceptible to misdirection and draws....

Just triple his reps, utilize him correctly, and we still will see double digit sacks....I can live with Moses on first down settin the edge, he does that well.

Cam wake is our double team player waiting to happen, which we did not see last year...cordinators must account for this player, he's just too good at what he does.

That's the correct quote. What it does not imply, is that Cam Wake is uncomfortable in a two-point stance. If you'll notice on the same play, Jason Taylor is also in a four-point stance. The play design itself led to the decision of having both edge rushers come off in a four-point stance.

It was excruciating. Starting with the Buffalo game. Or I guess I should say, the week immediately after the Buffalo game. How do you reward a guy that gives you 3 sacks, a QB hit and a QB pressure, plus 2 tackles, in a total of 25 snaps? By giving him a total of 8 snaps the following week against the Jets, and then only 2 snaps the next game against the Saints, and only 1 snap the week after that against the Jets.

Could his 8 dinky little snaps against the Jets really have been THAT bad, to where they decided to put him back on the shelf? The answer is no, I watched the 8 snaps and I can tell you, no. Both snaps against the Saints he did something good. On one snap he stunted inside and knocked quite possibly the best Guard in football (Jahri Evans) on the ground. On the other snap he beats Jon Stinchcomb on the outside rush, forces Brees to step up into the pocket where the 6'7" Tony McDaniel is waiting to knock the ball from the sky.

It was excruciating. Honestly I would have fired Paul Pasqualoni for that reason alone, not finding snaps for Cameron Wake.

besides how impressive he is in just a flat out pass rush in open space against the tackle, and i'am no stat anaysis guy, but the man is making an impact in some way during the play that is pushing 75 percent...A hold, A qb reshuffling in the pocket, a flat out sack, A serious pressure, a slight pressure, a double team allowing someone else freedom, A hurried throw, or just a flat out demon in the qb's head.

That rep count after that performance in buffalo, infuriates me at this point and time..i'am sorry, but just cause the idiot who may of been directly responsible for it got fired, theres still some room to blame, wtf was our coach thinking..to allow that is a red flag..I dont know how else to quantify that kind of mistake..

What we can say is that he's as good against the run and in coverage as Porter was last year. And his coverage skills are practically irrelevant b/c you want his elite pass rushing skills going after the QB 99% of the pass plays anyways.

You can say anything, doesn't make it true. He played 30 snaps against the run last season. How many of those were even on 1st and 2nd down? He didn't have as much of a burden in regards to diagnosing plays, etc.

And he certainly can't be labeled as anything in pass coverage other than 'unknown'. He dropped back a total of 3 plays.

I agree with you DJ he should have been on the field more. When you have that type of ability, you've got to showcase it. Make people fear our defense. Then next year when they are trying to plan to stop Wake, they have Misi coming around the other side. How do you stop it then?? Good post:up:

The difference is that the things I'm saying are backed-up and the things you're saying have been refuted with facts.

As for the 1st and 2nd down plays, I didn't go through the whole season, but in the Tampa game I counted 49 1st or 2nd down plays against our defense. Wake was in on 18 of those. I didn't go through and check which ones were run downs, but most likely a majority were at least run/pass options. I expect we'll see a similar arrangement going forward with Anderson taking more 1st and 2nd down plays primarily to keep Wake fresh for 3rd down pass rushing duties. And since he'll primarily be pass rushing, his pass coverage is of minor importance. The fact is that there is no reason to believe that he isn't already as complete of a LB as Porter was last year. Porter simply didn't set the bar that high.

I personally don't think Porter did either compared to the 17 sack season he had in the previous year.

The only thing you've backed up your claims with have been PFF numbers, which, containing no context, aren't proving anything. Never mind the fact that their ratings are based on opinion.

If Charlie Anderson is taking 1st and 2nd down snaps, that absolutely means Cameron Wake is not a complete LB. Theres no reason that should be the case, unless Wake isn't complete. I'm not aware of any team that keeps their best OLB on the sidelines for 1st and 2nd down, just to keep him fresh. And if you believe that Wake is as good enough to see the field as a run defender, then he most certainly is our best OLB.

Porter was sure good enough to start over both Anderson and Wake last season. Now if Wake can't start over Anderson, what does that say about him as a LB?

Yes, I did post PFF's stats to back up one of my claims, but it wasn't the only thing. You also claimed that Wake didn't play anymore snaps when Porter was suspended. That was absolutely false. In fact in that game Wake's snaps were more than triple his average snaps in the other 15 games.

If you think that teams don't try to keep their best pass rushers fresh for passing downs then you haven't been paying attention. Look at a guy like Demarcus Ware. Arguably one of the best defensive players in the league. Now obviously, he's a starter, so he'll play more downs than Wake did last year, but they do rest him. And when they rest him it's almost always on 1st or 2nd down.

Porter was the starter last even though he might not have been better than his competition. Being a veteran, contract and reputation had at least as much to do with his retaining his starting spot as talent. Whether Wake starts will also be influenced by defensive philosophy along with a host of other things. The one thing they have to make certain is that their elite pass rushing talent gets to rush the passer as much as possible. If I were Nolan that would be my priority. In fact, the smartest thing would probably be to sub Anderson in on likely non passing downs to keep Wake as fresh as possible for the likely passing downs.

You aren't arguing to keep Wake fresh, you're arguing to start Anderson. If Wake is as good as Porter defending the run, then he should play 80% of the snaps at WOLB this season.

I'm also not sure how a player is not only inferior on 1st and 2nd down, but also insubordinate, yet remained a starter based on reputation and contract? That doesn't make sense.

I'm arguing that Wake was at least as good as Porter was in every phase last year and Wake was the superior pass rusher. I don't agree that means Wake has to get 80% of the snaps b/c IMO Anderson was better than both of those guys against the run and about the same in pass coverage. So playing Anderson more on run downs and Wake more on pass downs is just about having our best team on the field as much as possible.

And you may not understand why it happened, but in the NFL it happens every year.

It was fun watching that video CK, thanks. Wake is dynamic. I think everyone on this forum can agree on that. OLB's in the 3-4 are supposed to be great pass rushers. That's what makes a good 3-4. I can live with a few shovel passes a game aimed at Wake. That's why they're 2 ILB's, there's always another wave of tacklers to clean up the mess. He's simply too much of a disruptive force not to have on the field, period. How Nolan utilizes Wake's talent will go a long way toward defining his tenure as a defensive coordinator for the 'phins.

What he said. Wake was effective when he didnt have to worry about playing the run. That wont be the case on 1st and 10, which is why he probably wont crack the starting line up. Porter was a sieve on run D, and with no Gibril Wilson to clean up his mistakes, and Sean "cant hit" Smith @ LCB, I'd be running counter weak ALL DAY.

I think Nolan and our new LB coach will be the key to Wake's level of success this season. Could Wake be this year's Elvis Dumerville? Sure am hoping so.

I don't think Wake was as good against the run as Porter last year. And there was only ONE instance of coverage last year which does tend to make me think that the coaches were flat scared of his coverage instincts or lack thereof. I know in that one instance of coverage he looked like he was just racing to the spot he knew he should be at, which makes me think he didn't understand why that area was his zone of responsibility and what he needs to be looking for if god forbid he needs to improvise a little.

To be honest if you have a Robert Mathis, you use Robert Mathis. Maybe he's not exactly what you hoped for or had in mind. So what?

It's not even a question to me.

I think CK was implying that about Robert Mathis that despite whatever shortcomings a player may have, you just can't keep that talent on the sidelines.

Mathis has his faults, but is a phenomenal pass rusher...Wake has his faults, but has proven to be a productive pass-rusher as well...

Just an apples to apples comparison.
