Can't believe how bad of a call that was. The guy was almost 5 yards offsides. With that said, why didn't Messi just shoot it on goal instead of passing?
WOW...pay attention...Argentina is adding a MF and Mexico is chasing the defecit. That's it. Match ruined. Illegitimate.
What a god damn joke FIFA is For all the italians and Americans who feel slighted. England and Mexico got royally screwed. Those were 2 OBVIOUS 100% mistakes Both those mistakes were a matter of feet not inches
This WC f'n sucks. Too many controversies. Usually its one or two, thus year it seems every game there's a f'd up call. As much as I've become desensitized to it all over the years, I'm kinda glad its happening to other countries so that awareness of the bs is raised.
That's it. AND IT CAME FROM the FACT that Mexico changed tactics from that bull**** goal. This match is illegitimate. I would like to apologize on behalf of FIFA to the entire country of Mexico. Thank You for showing for the round of 16...now we are sending you home...because of our incompetence...sorry bout that! Our bad!
I don't even care if Argentina wins this 7-0 on 6 legit goals. Put a * next to their team name on the bracket. I love Messi, but I am officially rooting HEAVILY against Argentina for the rest of the tourny. They CANNOT go on to win the World Cup after this. It CANNOT happen.
I'm surprised so many people are surprised, this is International Soccer and always has been, look at the chatter about the "Goal in '66". Enjoy the match as a Argentine flops like fish on the shore..
No. They were outplaying the "great" Argentina before that call. All composure has been lost. The game has changed. They're making elementary mistakes now. Argentina getting every single call though. Every single call.
How is replay for any disputed goal sounding now? Considering the bickering after the goal, the argument replay would affect the flow of the game hold now merit.
That's what's up Mexico! Beat their ****ing asses. Wish the worst for Argentina the rest of this tourny.
Back to the US for second...what we learned of this team is there is a critical lack of depth and this team couldn't recover from their pre-tourney injuries. A healthy Onyewu, J. Jones and Davies would have made the US a far better side.
i agree and thats a huge improvement for the U.S.. In years past we didnt even have a full 11. Now its simply a matter of filling out the roster in case of injuries or cards. If we can improve one more step we might be able to beat our best finish (3rd place) next world cup. there are a lot of interesting young clubs though for 2014 (Germany, Mexico, Ghana, etc) It wont be easy
First off, whoever mentioned Dunkirk really - and I mean seriously - should get themselves a history lesson. 2nd, shame that Sepp Blatter doesn't think that goaline technology is financially viable given the billions of pounds FIFA make from each World Cup. Germany beasted England for the first half an hour and Terry's defending on the first two goals was pathetic. But Gerrard's cross for Upson puts us back at 2-1 and then 58 seconds later we score again and it's not even close. It's a full yard over the line. At least. That goal gets given and it's a TOTALLY different gameM england came out for the 2nd half and for 25 minutes they dominated. They pressed, they hit the bar but when you push and push you commit men forwards qand you get caught on the break. Twice we get caught on the break from deep in German territoty when pressing. Just remarkably disappointing. Kudos to Germany because Joachim Loew really has them playing well and they have some tremendous players, but England got jobbed. One other point. Someone - and I forget who, apologies - made an excellent post about the future of the MLS. What you need to do is produce home grown talent and you have a very interesting fork in the road: you have to make the MLS legitimate with a sprinkling of foreign talent but you can't let it be a place for ageing foreign players to get a last pay day. Thierry Henry is coming to the MLS and that's what you have to avoid. But because you're not in the major club competitions, the difficulty is attracting young foreign talent. If 18 million American kids are playing the game, you need to be developing big players. What you also need is your big players going and being big players in La Liga and the Premiership and Serie A.
sorry boomer. that was me with dunkirk quip. the score was 2-0 at the time and the english resilience hadnt yet manifested tough break with the refs.
let me ask you something... You were down 2-1 and England was pressing. Why? Why the panic? From the opening second half whistle England was in desperation mode.
Argentina is just picking at the carcass now. That was the strike of the tournament. Find a better one.
I think THAT's a great question. Why? It's the English mentality. The Premiership is played at a breakneck speed and when they have a foothold in the game they press and press. They got caught out. The third goal you have Ashley Cole and someone else marking 3. We had Lampard taking the free kick, Barry on the edge of the box and everyone else in the box including both centre backs and Glenn Johnson the right back. As Schweinsteiger breaks to the edge of the England box, Glenn Johnson has to take a yellow card there and bring him down. But it's the mentality to press and panic. Is it weight of expectation? Who knows mate.
argentina vs germany should be interesting. have to think germany will be able to exploit argentina's defense a bit. conversely have to think argentina should net a couple themselves. gotta think that game is going to be a high scoring affair
I think the whole thing with the mls bringing over aging stars is to build up its following by bringing over reconizable faces. I think its a good idea to a point. Build up your fanbase, then build the money, then bring over the young rising stars by paying them loads of money already there through the fan base.
????? So they are sitting around drinking Malbec, eating Churrasco, while discussing why all other latin american countries are inferior?
