The officials are to give the benefit of the doubt to the offensive player and the US player was not even near offside - he was actually behind the defender when the kick started. There's no way even an amateur club ref with a modicum of integrity makes that call.
Hmmm, I wonder where the wonderful sport of Basketball falls on that list. If this were the Italians, everyone would be calling us cry babies, like in the past. Heck, we won the 2006 World Cup with a dive right? When Spain was screwed against Korea, they were screwed, when Ireland was screwed by France, they were screwed, when Italy gets screwed: "Suck it up you divers and cry babies" Like I've said, it is part of the game and we've all been screwed by the refs, and now I am going to say "Suck it up and continue". Welcome to wonderful world of soccer. ITALY SCORED 5 GOOD GOALS IN THREE GAMES THAT WERE CALLED BACK, PROOF BELOW. Well, back to the game, the pace is tremendous and it will be interesting to see which team loses it's legs first.
Not sure I get the point of the whole argument - I love the soccer passion - but are you saying there are no working class neighborhoods in the US? You don't know much about this country if so (or even some on this board).
Ya, and the line showed he was even or onside. Even the commentators were saying so while looking at the line?
You don't know the sport. It's where the player is when the ball is kicked. If he's even - it's not offside. He was actually slightly behind the Algerian player. And, they are to give the slight benefit of the doubt to the attacking player (which wasn't necessary in this case but it adds to the poverty of the call). Let's just get that cleared up before we move on to the rest of the game - it was a completely bogus call and there's no arguing the replay. It was not offsides.
Streaming it in some weird language, and I'm guessing they used the point of first contact (foot-ball); the replay was pretty clear.
Probably. Also, you're right, I'm not a soccer aficionado at all. The way it was presented it was clear he was about a foot ahead of the defender; I'll agree that it was lame to not get the benefit of the doubt there seeing as it was so close.
What is up with Dempsey? .. US needs to keep their heads up and believe that a goal will come b/c they are putting together very good plays and breaking down the Algeria defense.
He was not in front of the defender as the ball was passed. He wasnt. There is no debate. I'm not sure what coverage you are watching... but they showed the replay on ESPN, paused it right as the ball was on Donovan's foot for the pass, drew a line... and they were even, and if anything, he was onside.
Probably the coverage difference. They drew the line right as the tip of Donovan's foot graced the ball.
Algerians are beginning to wear down, this Goal to Goal style of play hopefully means advantage US..if they just keep firing bullets at the net.
This is the aspect of soccer that is the reality and makes the game great - dominant play and the ball just doesn't fall. If you look at the 3 games played - the US has been the best overall team in this group - certainly the best offense. They have done nothing but bring the pressure.
I think Algeria is just trying to get theirs knowing they won't be going anywhere. ****ing disgraceful.
It's over. Now all the haters can laugh along with that ref who f***ed us over in the last game. I swear to God....I'm never watching this bull**** again. EVER
