Traxxe from the Suns board on RealGM is very reliable. He's doesn't claim to be an insider himself, but he knows an insider who feeds him goods that almost always turn out to be true. He called the Shaq/Marion trade (before ANYONE mentioned Phoenix even as a possible destination for Shaq), gave updates (that later hit the media) on the Amare front around the deadline, etc.

This is what he has to say about Miami/Amare and I find it very interesting, because I know he's getting it from a damn good source:

It sounds to me like we're trying to convince Amare to take less than the max... if he's with it, I might just prefer signing him for less than the max than to give Chris Bosh the pay day he's seeking, especially if that enables us to make a strong push for Joe Johnson or Rudy Gay.

Two weeks away, fellas. Two weeks.

It's going to take the max. There are too many teams with cap space and not enough players of a high caliber out there. Believe me, the Knicks are not going to allow themselves to get shut out. They might only sign one max guy and hold out for Carmelo next year, but they are signing somebody.

Just a small tidbit that I forgot to share with you all...

My source is privy to a salary chart the Heat has constructed in which they classify players by what they are likely to play for in the FA market....

He let slip a couple of things...first of all, that Haslem is looked at as a MLE guy at 4 years around the league...and that Ray Allen will be had for MLE x 3 years by a contender.

This is interesting for a couple of reasons. Teams construct these charts much like NFL teams do mock drafts. They slot players by the cap space available. They have determined that Ray Allen's max offer elsewhere is the MLE.

Which opens up all types of scenarios...and the possibility that the first guy off the Heat bench can be Ray Allen. Udonis Haslem or Ray Allen? Take your pick.

Hmm...I seem to recall someone mentioning that Allen was too old and the Heat didn't need "old guys"?

To me, the Heat's real problem is there are maybe 2 quality big men in FA this year, and Amare and Boozer are not Elite imho, so where would the inside scoring presence come from if Allen was signed as a Shooter?

As much as I like Bosh and think he'd be perfect for Riley-style b-ball, Amare is much more explosive and electric, plus I love shot blocking big men. The more you have of them the merrier. Plus Amare's constant dunks and overall atheletism despite having questionable knees are something to be considered.

Call me crazy, but Id take Haslem. Defense is underappreciated but still is a very important part of the game. You can get shooters, but defensive forwards are not commodities. Plus Haslem is a workhorse. Allen is a glorified jumpshooter who has consistency issues throughout his career.

You're not crazy. Ray Allen, personally, is my favorite player all time aside from Jordan, Wade, and Kobe. He's still fully capable of winning an NBA Finals game all by himself (for the most part) at 34 years old, too, though he's been below average since then. I just think that it's more difficult to find a vet reserve like Haslem who will defend, hustle, hit that open mid range jumper (that Wade relies on for so many of his assists), and basically do everything he's asked of by Coach Spo and more.

Ray Allen is still perhaps the best three point shooter in the game, but there are so many solid options that can be had for cheaper:

    - Mike Miller
    - Quentin Richardson
    - Raja Bell
    - Roger Mason

(Brain freeze... I know there are several more)

Not to mention to trade market, where shooters aren't that highly regarded.

I don't think it's the end of the world (although it will feel like it for a bit) if UD ends up elsewhere, but I really want UD back on this team. Not at the expense of being able to sign another big time guy, or even a center who could start for us, i.e. Brendan Haywood. But I really want Haslem back if it can be done. Amare, Bosh, and Boozer... one thing all three of those potential starting PF for the Heat in 2010 have in common... lack of ability to play defense at any level over average. There isn't a better player than UD available to backup the PF position and pick up for that lone major flaw of one of those three guys.

I'd take Haslem too. Particularly since amare/Bosh can play center for strecthes while playing UD at the 4. Ray Allen is not a good fit at the 3 which makes it tough for him to play alongside Wade (unless Wade is playing the point)

Yep. If Ray Allen is signed then Wade will be playing a lot of minutes at the point.

He's a point guard out there regardless, but he really doesn't like bringing the ball up consistently.

I'd be pretty surprised if Ray ended up here.

If he leaves Boston, he should look to team up with LeBron somewhere. Perfect compliment, like Wade, except LeBron doesn't play the same position as he does.

At the MLE..I would consider him.

From Amare or Boozer. Especially Amare...the guy can flat out score. he owns the paint. Even against the Laker front line...you saw what he did in a couple of those games.

Amare and Boozer are better post presence than Bosh. Bosh has a more complete game.

Dwyane Wade.... your new selling point on free agency recruiting is film of that Los Angeles Lakers team. It's time to convince two top notch free agents, that one guy alone or even two guys aren't enough to beat that powerhouse.

If only LeBron James would get it through his thick skull.

Add another SF to the 3rd banana mix.

    Mike Miller.

The great thing about a Mike Miller signing is how cheap he would come and it will absolutely guarantee that we can add some significant bench pieces...and keep Haslem of course.

Wow... someone at ESPN really gets it. I mean, even if we dont realistically go after LeBron... this writer actually acknowledges what we've done to create cap space, and how much we've created.

Its a great article. ESPN Insider... so shhhhhh...

There are some..believe it or not that still don;t get it.

    On ESPN especially.

Today, JA Adande repeated the same BS that the Knicks are the only team that can afford two max's, and that the Knicks have the most cap space.

TBH Sect, if LeBron landed in Miami, I'd be happy with a MLE player like Allen or Bell, and keeping Haslem and Beasley.

Still have no idea who plays Center though, JO was a train wreck in the playoffs.

But looking back... he was going against Perkins... who proved to be a very good post defender. But still... that was beyond bad...

Bell will sign for the minimum, BTW.

It is damn near a lock.

    Hometown discount to the extreme.

It all depends in which direction Riley is leaning.

I broke down the desires of all involved.

The only one that knows for sure is Riley.

We also know the history Riley has had with these guys.

Bosh: Riley wanted to draft him over Wade.

Amare: Tried to trade for him twice. Wade has told Riley that he is the best fit for his game.

John Salmons: Riley had a deal on the table that got nixed by Sac.

Rudy Gay: Riley loves his game and the role he can play on this team, and has said so to some. Gay was mysteriously spotted at the AAA.

Mike Miller: Riley attempted to trade for him twice.

Ray Allen: Riley called him the best shooter at guard that he has ever seen.

Boozer: Riley tried to pull a deal in the offseason, and was nixed. It was later learned of the low ball nature of his offer.

If you piece everything together...there is one guy that you can say that Riley is not thrilled with..Boozer. He attempted one trade for him and the offer was deemed ridiculous. he then tried to include him in a 3 team deal that got nixed by Phoenix.

Riley also has no ties with Joe Johnson.

Thats what you get for listening to ESPN for anything basketball related...you get dumber haha. Adande and Bucher and Broussard are the worst. the absolute worst. Bucher and Adande are just dumb and Broussard has a clear bias towards the bulls and is dumb. Ford is tolerable in small doses.

This actually disturbs me. These idiots are being paid to feed the public absolute garbage. I am far from a cap expert. I understand the basics, but not everything. Often times I have to use Google before speaking on the cap. However, it is as simple as typing in www.hoopshype.com and maneuvering over to team/player salaries, clicking the calculator on my dock, and calculating elementary math. It's a three step process that takes all of maybe 2-3 minutes. You'd think it would be worth the time before getting on national television and presenting people with fiction.

    What's wrong with these people?

I saw it with my own eyes a few weeks ago: Chris Broussard said that New York and Chicago can afford two max player, and after Miami re-signs Wade it would only have enough cap space to try and convince another player to take $10 million. I lol'ed. This is supposed to be a "professional"

Broussard is the worst and I'd really like to punch him in the ear.

Adande doesn't know what he's talking about and you figure that out after a minute or two so you take it with a grain of salt. I think the same goes for Bucher. But Broussard is very convincing. He goes out of his way to lie about his "sources" that have been proven non existent... he's the idiot who started the LeBron/Caliparri "package deal" rumors. And I quote, "My sources indicate to me that LeBron James will not make a decision until the team of his choice hires John Caliparri to be its head coach."

Oh, OK. I realize that LeBron still has four years of collegiate eligibility so I guess if Caliparri stays at Kentucky he'll follow.

I wish Michael Beasley did a bit more to impress... I'd really love to have a shot at CP3 but realistically we don't have what it takes to acquire him.

Wade/CP3/Amare or Bosh wins quite a few titles.

Food for thought: After participating in a charity event FOR the Miami Heat organization with Zo & Spo... Rudy Gay ATM is working out in South Florida with Amare Stoudemire and others.

If not for Memphis being reluctant to include Gay in trade talks this time two years ago (they were instead offering Conley Jr.), he'd be a Miami Heat right now along with Lopez, Love, Westbrook, or Gordon (Riley's choice) and Beasley would be a member of the Memphis Grizzlies. I FEEL LIKE CRYING.
