So gimmick or not, Avatar (the game) looks freaking sweet in 3D on my TV.

I agree with this sentiment. It is too soon. And to me right now 3D isn't worth what it would cost. I feel the same way about what is charged for a movie in theaters in 3D. It's borderline obscene to me. It's not something that is regularly affordable for an average family of four IMO. But I guess people must be going.

    How much do they charge?

I've not seen a movie in 3D yet, but the theater I frequent most charges $4 extra for movies in 3D. The $4 extra doesn't seem obscene to me, but then again tickets are under $10 to start with.

Tons I would imagine, because it's been possible for at least 3 years now.

I'm pretty sure there are a number of applications (aside from the above) that work well with Samsung and Mitsubishi DLPs (not sure about newer TVs, but I imagine it'd work with them too).

Yeah it's about four dollars extra apiece. You're talking almost 60 dollars for four people, slightly less with two of them being kids. To me that is a ton of money to go sit in a movie theater for an hour and a half. But then again I think regular prices are too high. So for me it goes from overpriced to obscene. Just my opinion.

I can go watch watch the class A baseball team here for MUCH less than that. Hell, I could get Atlanta Braves tickets cheaper than that. That's a three hour major sporting event.

I go to the weekday matinees personally, which is $4.75/ticket any time of day from M-Th (it's $8.75 otherwise). I don't find that expensive obviously, but I also just go with my fiance as opposed to 4 people (total).

If I had that many people, I'd have "movie nights" at home a lot more.
