    That or 'Slingblade'.

Another thing about Charlie Manuel; Is he the whitest person ever to have a latin last name? I think so.

Yeah, and now you're playing like the Pirates. Roy Halladay can't pitch every game, and even if he could, you still have to score runs. I also don't like your bullpen. Outside of Contreras and Romero, I don't trust anyone down there. Maybe Lidge gets back to form, maybe not.

Ever since "Binocular Gate" the Phils have been horrible. The Braves have a tough road trip coming up, so maybe they close they gap. But Atlanta is easily the best team in the division right now.

Is the front office out on the field playing ballgames? Halladay won't save them. They need to start hitting.

You act like they've won 14 straight division titles or something. The team plays like they think they'll just magically end up in first again because they're the Phillies. They will not be back in first anytime soon unless they start playing at a MUCH higher level than they are now. Their effort level needs to increase significantly as well. Good luck, they're going to need it.

Tough for their opponents. This team is confident, but they are hungry for success. That's the difference between them and the Phillies right now. They also have the benefit of having survived a big slump and knowing they can recover.

I hate west coast trips because the games start so stinkin late.

Rough night for Heyward. 0-5 with 5 K. He's definitely in a funk. Kershaw is brutal on lefties though.

Another late offensive outburst for the Braves last night. The way they're rolling they don't need to care whether Philly is winning or losing games.

I found a good article about Chipper on ESPN.com.

That was a disappointing game today. I knew it was over when Jesse Chavez came in to pitch. He didn't waste any time proving me right. Venters was so good, I think he should have stayed in an extra inning. But it was really the offense that failed to come through late despite several opportunities. They put a little more pressure on themselves to probably sweep Arizona not taking the four game series with LA.

Naw, I'd rather have Venters be able to pitch a few games against Arizona if needed. He's pretty much out for the next two games if you pitch him 3 innings.

But yeah, Chavez is horrible. I'd rather see Kimbrel or Martinez in that situation. It was the bottom of the order, so I think that's why Bobby used him there. That way he could use Wagner in the next inning for the teeth of the order.

Oh, and it's being reported that Heyward's struggles are because of his thumb, which he injured back in May. Terry Pendelton came out and said it. He said Jason would never mention it as an excuse, but it's really been bothering him as of late.

Then I wish they'd sit him and let it heal. Their bench is good enough to pick up some of the slack. Prado's hand was apparently hurt a little a couple of days ago. I hope that doesn't become a problem.

Well, an injury like that isn't going to get better in a matter of days. That's something that could take weeks, maybe months to heal, unfortunately. Just one of those nagging things you have to play through. It sucks, but that's how it goes. He'll adjust.

And a Heyward at 50 or 65% is still better than the alternative right now. Even with this slump, he's still got the best OBP and OPS on the team.

He's only had 13 AB's in 4 games. Has 4 hits and 6 walks with a couple doubles. He's in the Dominican Summer League. I'll keep you posted.

I'm getting sick of these late start games out west. They can't get back east soon enough. They really need to take advantage of this series against the D-backs.

There's no point in him being in the lineup adding to his strikeout total. Even if it takes a couple of weeks or so he should come out. They're back to stranding a million baserunners again. This team drives me crazy with their inconsistency. They're playing a bottom feeder and trying to lose first place. Derek Lowe was total crap.

Thought you guys might wanna know a little bit about this kid the Braves drafted at #35 last night.

Matt Lipka is an 18 year old SS out of Texas. He runs a 6.4 60, which was third fastest of any kid in the draft. Not bad for a white guy. He was also a star WR in Texas, and had offers to play both ways at Alabama, where he committed to play baseball. But he will definitely sign with the Braves, so losing him to college isn't an issue.

With his speed, and size (6'1 190) he is an ideal CF and leadoff man. He can also hit for a little power. He kinda reminds me of a Right Handed Jordan Schaefer. (Don't let that put a sour taste in your mouth though, kid can play)

The Braves have the 3rd pick today, and will probably look to add more offense as that is the weakest part of the minor league system right now.

No. They have a couple guys who can fill in, but no one is really a prospect at this point. All AAAA guys IMO. Third Base is a position guys normally get moved to, as most are converted SS's (like Chipper). But, when you have a Chipper Jones for 15+ years, 3B isn't a position you really worry about drafting. Mark DeRosa was a guy who the Braves drafted who could've been the future at 3B, but obviously we had no spot for him. Andy Marte was another, but same thing (and good thing too because that guy has flamed out).

Depending on how Salcedo develops, and what the Braves plan to do with Escobar, it'll be interesting to see what happens with the left side of the INF.

Honestly, I'd love for the Braves to sign Glaus for one more year, move him to 3rd, and bring up Freddie Freeman to play 1st. That's probably wishful thinking at this point though.

I'm not sure his shoulder would/could allow him to play 3B anymore consistently. I think that was one of the reasons why he agreed to move across the diamond.

I hadn't heard that. I thought #10 was the primary reason for it. He looks pretty damn nimble over at 1st though.

Anyway Lucky, you were wondering about 3B, here's what the Braves did with their second pick in this year's draft:

Well obviously he wasn't going to push Chipper to 1st, but I think most teams were looking at him as a 1B now since he had a bad shoulder that kept him on the DL basically all of last year. I could be wrong though and maybe I'm thinking of Scott Rolen instead.

Oh, and BTW, Heyward is now 2nd in the All-Star voting for OF'ers. Only 10,000 votes behind Ryan Braun. He's now almost a lock to start.

Just say the replay. Hope they aren't hurt, especially Heyward.

Does McClouth make anyone else wish for Andruw Jones to come back? Maybe he would get amnesia for a few games and hit a fastball or run down a fly ball.

A real wasted opportunity not winning a four game series against a bottom feeder like Arizona. This is one frustrating team to follow sometimes. I'm glad Heyward is OK.

Him getting hurt might be the best thing that could've happened to us. I hope they DL his *** and bring up Schafer.

I can't really blame him too much there. That's a play that you have to go all out to get, so at the risk of the ball falling in between, both guys went hard. You don't even really have time to call for it, and even if you did, it's almost impossible for the other guy to pull up.

That was closer than it looked at the end. The bullpen was a disaster in the 7th and 8th. The bench were the heroes of the game today. Especially Brooks Conrad. Martin Prado can hit at will. He'll probably get snubbed and not make the All-Star game.

Nate McClouth all star with the Pirates, is heading to "huge mistake' status at light speed, don't know what happened to him but he has become a liability at the plate and sometimes in the field.

To me, he may be better served as a platoon player.

Yeah, I loved the trade for him last season. This season is a mystery. He's a completely different player now. He hasn't done too much of anything outside of that walk off HR against Colorado way back in April. It would be better to put Melky in CF most of the time, he's really picked it up at the plate in the past few weeks.

Philly was just shut out by Florida. Josh Johnson pitched a gem and outdueled Halladay. If the Mets hang on and win their second game today I think that will put Philly back to third place.

Melky is not hitting much better than McClouth though, so maybe a platoon of the two?

Nah, padres fan, and the Mets are just to streaky to really get a read on them in mid June.

Poor Boik has changed the thread title from "Official Mets Fire Jerry Manual thread" to "Official Mets thread' back to "Fire him" thread..now it is back to normal..:D
