I was saying the reason you picked #99 for Odrick is because you hate Taylor. And it's pretty obvious.

IMO, #99 and #54 should not be worn by anyone else. At least have a little respect for them.

Again, there's 5 new LBs and only 5 LB #'s currently available. 99 and 54 will have to be worn at least until some cuts are made.

LBs are not allowed #'s in the 40s unless they began their career at a position where that # were eligible to be used.

This disgusts me. Zach Thomas was an outstanding player for us for so many years and the lack of respect for him by our current regime is getting worse and worse. No matter what this kid does he will not be able to own up to that number.

Wait, so if Edds becomes a 1st ballot HOFer he will not have lived up to the #?

As long as they don't wear it during the regular season, then I'm fine.

there's to many players on a football team to retire all the greats #s...specially considering the restrictions on #s per position

IMO, he can have #13 if he wants to as long as he helps us get back to a Super Bowl.

And #13 is my favorite player of all time.

    Where's the outrage against-

Donald Thomas wearing Larry Little's number?

Or Brian Johnston wearing Dwight Stephensons?

Or Kory Sperry wearing Nick Buonicontis?

What's the cutoff? Those Hall of Fame players do not and will not have their numbers retired.

I think you are getting ahead of your self there. It has been the policy of this team since it's inception to not retire numbers. At present there are only 3 numbers retired (12, 13, 39 ). It has been up to equipment managers to issue numbers as they see fit, sometimes denying access to certain ones.

Not to mention there are only so many numbers available. If every fan favorite had his number retired there would be no more left...:shifty:

Why Zack isnt and wont be a HOF'er, was he a great Dolphin, sure, do I respect him, all day long...but retired numbers are usually guys that make it into the Hall....

There are a number of former Dolphin legends who don't have their numbers retired.
    Dwight Stephenson
    Jim Langer
    Larry Little
    Paul Warfield
    Nick Buoniconti
    Bob Kuechenberg
    Dick Anderson
    and the list goes on

Its just impossible to retire every great Dolphin's number unless we start putting numbers in the 100's on jerseys.
Jason Taylor and Zac Thomas were great Miami Dolphins and they were the face of the Dolphins for many years. But wouldn't it be a slight to some of the other great Dolphins if Zac and Jason's numbers were retired? I believe they both make the Ring of Honor and their names will be alongside some of the other great Dolphins who helped make Dolphin history and that will be a fitting tribute.

I love ZT abd JT as much as anyone but its been the Franchise's policy FOR A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time not to retire a bunch of numbers. To say its because of this regime is foolish.

I love that idea. The idea of protecting numbers is silly. You celebrate goog players by giving their numbers to good and exciting players. I hope this kid is the player that ZT was.

    Slightly left of center
    Do the math brah
They could retire more than forty numbers and still have one for everybody on the team.
Number thirteen should be retired twice.
    Number 54, 66, 77, 42, Please forgive me lord but I can't remember Larry Little's number right now. It's late, and I've been drinkin...and smokin  but I'm pretty sure it's 68,
75 for the best defensive tackle EVER

and a few others but those would be first on my list anywho.

you still cant retire 40 numbers and expect there to be enough numbers because WR cant go anywhere besides the 10-19 and 80-89 QBs 1-19 RBs 20-49 LBs 40-59 and 90-99 DBs 20-49 OL 50-79 besides DL who probably have the most access to numbers there are limited numbers

Thank you. I think people getting upset about this is a little silly. Retired numbers in football are only for the best of the elite. Zach is a fan favorite and rightfully so, but there are better Dolphins players throughout the team's history who were better than him and don't have their number retired. So far there are three, all of them in the hall of fame, and two of them are among the top 10 in history at their position and the other led an undefeated team. Zach will probably eventually get a spot on the ring of honor and that's what he deserves, not retiring his number.

Right now, the idea of retiring Zach's numbers, pales in relevance to the mere acknowledgment that the team will at least be retiring Zach a Dolphin.

I'd like to see that this order of business is addressed in an appropriate, and timely manner. Perhaps some chains need rattling by the local media.

I'm gonna refer to the majority on the retired numbers issue, but I think Zach himself might have reservations about being placed on that lofty perch.

But personally, looking over my thirty year allegiance to this team, I can't think of a single Dolphin player, who's name and numbers I'd like to see on the ring of honor more than Zach's. Maybe a statue near Dan's :headscratch:

I've never really been a fan of retiring numbers. You eventually get into a slippery slope where the number of available jersey numbers decline and you're almost forced to give a player a number that has historical meaning (as we're seeing here). And then what if a player eventually outperforms someone who already had their number retired? Retire that number too? I think you can still honor the player without retiring their number. And unless the NFL allows you to start putting 3 digits on the jerseys, your options become more and more limited on the numbers you can use, and the "bar" that a player must reach to have their number retired gets higher and higher.

Bah humbug...Zach is gone. Seeing someone else in #54 doesn't in any way change how I feel about Zach ?? Like I said in the poll about Odrick wearing 99, seeing several other players over the years wearing #66 doesn't change the fact that Kooch is my favorite Fin of all time !!
