Well, the lad does seem confident, that and numbers in the 50's are about used up, and Jake Long has #77 so no AJ Duhe for Edds.

The team should not allow it. But this is a new era Dolphins, without any respect to its past, despite what they say.

    Just wrong....

I'd hoped it would be unofficially retired like Csonk's was for years before the team amde it officail

I'm fine with it. The number isn't retired. Just as long as A.J. lives up to it.

Give Odrick 99 and Misi 55

Not yet, Edds's agent tweeted Jeff Darlington that his client had taken that number or had been given it.

Keep in mind folks, last preseason both Vontae Davis and Sean Smith started out with different numbers than what they started the season wearing.

Not sure how I feel about this. They technically aren't doing anyone wrong because the number isn't retired, but is a number unofficially retired in my mind.

I wonder what Thomas thinks of this...

Eww...viscous, no wonder you wanted linebackers this year, you have a large meanstreak..:D

A part of me says "right on" to Odrick wearing #99, the other part says that it's additional pressure on Odrick.

FWIW...the Dolphins Franchise only has 3 numbers retired #12, #13, #39 according to darlington anyway.

Even if it wasn't retired, I wouldn't pick it if I were Edds. Pick another number, and make it know through your play, just like Thomas.

TBH, I'd be happier if #54 came with Zach Thomas himself to teach the lad how to Study and Breakdown film in the NFL.

It has nothing to do with a lack of respect.

The Cowboys gave 88 to Dez Bryant.
No one cried when Ronnie Brown was given Surtain's 23
No one cried when Culver was given Madison's 29.

If the number isnt retired, then it is up for grabs.

A number is either retired or it's not. And, if it's not, it's available. Period. And, I don't see any disrespect in him choosing it either. And, that's coming from a huge Zach Thomas fan.

Now, let's just see him live up to it.

Can only retire so many numbers. They should be held for LEGENDS. Zach Thomas was great, but I don't hold him to the same legendary status as I do Csonka, Marino, or Griese.

Plus from what I remember in Csonka's case, didn't it only get retired like some time in the last 10 years or so? So there's still more than enough time for it to also be retired. I dunno, maybe I do hold him in that light, but I think the three that have been retired are hands down the 3 greatest players we've ever had.

Anyways, can't go crazy with retiring Jerseys like I said, there's only so many numbers out there.

I'm looking for a Week 3 retirement. (Our first home game)

We really need to repay the best SS this team has ever seen....Zach Thomas!

I am one who is usually indifferent about stuff like this...but I really think JT and ZT's numbers are sacred. We aren't talking about a great player who stayed for a couple of seasons, we are talking about bonafide STARS who were drafted later, made their way through hard work, dedication and gave backa TON to this franchise and community.

Hell, often times they were better fans of this team than us. That is why you retire their numbers. No one is stumping for Surtain or Madison or anyone like that...but these two...these two should be untouchable in my mind.

    Sigh...

    The only #s currently available: 51 (Dobbins' # in SD), 54, 55, 98, 99.

And we added 5 LBs. Then Odrick needs a # too. Odrick's going to have to take 74 I guess because it's the only one available in the 70's (I guess he could take 61 or 62 if he wanted, Jerry will need one of these 3 as well).

The LBs can only use 50's and 90's.

As a tradition from way back, the organization rarely retires numbers. Has nothing to do with this current organization. I remember hearing stories about the equipment manager not giving out 78 after Webb left.
