There has been a good deal of talk about our O & D lines LBs, RBs, and QB positions but I don't recall much being said about our secondary. Along with most of the team last year our secondary was not very good. With the FA pickups we have gotten so far, I get the impression that they are more ST players then starter material. How true is that?

I have also heard that BP does not like to draft DB's high. So if this is true what a shame, from my understanding this draft is loooaaadddeeeddd with DB's and there is a chance we could get a very very good CB in the 2nd. Does the type of defence we are going to run this year not emphasize DB's ? But if it does why would the FO ignore the CB position when there are good players to be had? Or is my perception of the DB's way off and we are in better shape then I think we are?

Ok guys and gals have at it and educate me on how our secondary should pan out this year.:hi5:

I see it as a matter of priorities...OL is first and foremost. However, having the #1 overall, BPA is the way they should go. That said, there is little difference between Jake, Chris and Glenn, so they do have options and OL is our foremost need area...if we can grab Jake, that instantly upgrades the line even if we don't draft more OL (which is highly doubtful).

After that, ILB and CB are pretty even in need assuming they are sold on giving Beck a legitimate shot at qb.
Next on the list would probably be OLB and TE...

As to the DB situation, I don't think anyone is thinking we are tightened up there, but only so many holes can be filled in one offseason. Drafting in the spot that we do, it wouldn't be out of the question to draft a CB on day one, but I think unlikely with the other holes we currently have...In fact, I wouldn't be too surprised to see us select two OL on day one...(first two rounds)

The starters before the mash unit was called were not that good last season.

So to evaluate what was a revolving secondary door last season wouldn't be fair to say the least..

I believe that the feelings coming from the f-o are that if they brought in quality f-a's (not break the bank signings) for the secondary the competition would improve what was a woeful, disappointing secondary group that this team has fielded in a long time!

I know that this group had an inordinate amount of injuies last season but the secondary imo was the worst defensive unit on the field last season.. Which showed up every game on ST's.

Just about as good/bad as our front 7 plays this year.

Yeah, it's hard for any secondary to look good when our front 7 are letting teams run all over us, and not getting pressure on the QB, allowing them all day to throw.

Well, we're...alright. We're not as thin right now as we were last year, and I dare say that no matter how bad the Cowboys thought Keith Davis was he's certainly an upgrade over Cameron Worrell in both the secondary and special teams units. We've got Lehan and Will Allen manning the corners and Jason Allen leading the battle at an expanded safety roster. The big thing to watch out for in training camp will be the return of Bell and Hill.

I highly doubt it. Parcells AFAIK has never run one, and John pasqualoni either. We're going to run a 3-4, doesn't a cover 2 require a base 4-3?
