Fire Jeff Ireland if we do any of the following:

    1.) fail to draft a S of a LB at #12

2.) Draft for the offense in the first 3 rounds

3.) Fail to produce a top rated defense next year with all the tools to do so available this year.

    4.) Trade down at #12

Lord knows we shouldn't wait to see if your perception comes close to matching reality, or what he gets in the draft, or anything like that. I really miss the days when our franchise operated like a whole lot of people were spending their big money checks on the most huffable brands of model glue.

I agree 100%. In a defensive draft like this you pick from the defensive tree, especially if you need to fill those positions anyway. This is truly a no brainer. Ireland would have to be a football idiot to draft an offensive player in the first few rounds.

Earl Thomas and Berry are the only safeties worth a #12 pick. I dont see any LB worth taking that high, though E Griffen is the closest thing to it. If we have a top rated anything it'll be a top rated offense, we are only a player or two away. On defense we need several players, too many to add in one offseason.

Kindle will be a monster for us if used correctly. He needs to be moved around to exploit matchup opportunities the way he was two years ago. He will be much better as a lb than a de

I think Kindle could do a lot for our defense. Nobody in the draft is ever gonna be a guarantee, if Bryant and Thomas are gone he would be my next choice. Especially since we seem to be hand delivering JT to the Jest

I'd say the opposite. If the draft is deep on defense, then you can afford to wait and still get good OLB, S, NTs in the mid rounds.

Sergio Kindle is CAM WAKE. Primarily a pass rusher, cant drop in coverage or play the run well, only a fit as a WOLB. In case you hadnt noticed we've got 91 and 56 playing weak side. Kindle is no better than Wake and Anderson, he'd cost 3-4 times as much as they do, eat up a roster spot, take years to learn the OLB position, and generally be a waste of a pick. Just say no.

How in the hell do you expect a top rated defense this season???

No FS. One good LB in Dansby. No NT.

The only upside on the defense is DE and CB.

I think he has the speed/quickess to chase plays down from the backside or elude blockers and make an occasional TFL. But when the ball is run directly at him he struggles to hold the edge and get off blocks. It doesnt show up much on film b/c Texas was normally well ahead/playing overmatched teams, but in the instances where an OT got his hands on Kindle that was usually the end of the story.

I think Kindle would be a good fit for a team like the Jets, who lack a speed-edge rusher. But Cam Wake is our neighborhood speed rusher and Kindle would be more of the same IMO. I'd rather draft a guy like Griffen, Misi, or Worilds. Guys who can play strong side, set the edge, and be a compliment to Wake/Anderson. We played last year with 4 WOLB (JP,JT,Wake,Anderson) and 1 SOLB (Moses), I dont want to repeat that mistake again. Everyone blames Soliai for the dropoff in run D after Ferg went down, but not having Matt Roth to force plays back inside was just as big a problem IMO.

Give that man a gold star!

Look, when you start putting need ahead of value, you're reaching. And, on a team with as many needs as we have, you really don't need to do that. Set your board based on how you value all the players available, and at every position of need. Then select the BPA...period. Trade up and trade back as needed. It's that simple. And, if you don't believe me, just look at the Patsies. Love 'em or hate 'em, they know how to draft.

Bottom line, the Dolphins aren't going to improve the team with just the #12 pick. Or, with just the first three picks. They're going to improve the team with a solid draft, hitting as many prospects as possible. To suggest that if they take Bryant at #12 they're making a huge mistake is, well...foolish IMO. Keep in mind...the best defense is a great offense. Am I advocating taking Bryant with the first overall pick? No, not necessarily. But, if it's who they value the most, and it also fills a need, then I say why not?

Let me ask you all a question...how pumped would we ALL be if our offense could light up a score board like Indy and New Orleans? Think on that for a minute. If we had an offense that could either grind it out via a power running game, or strike fast with a big play passing game, how potent would that be?

Even more reason to draft all defense. After an off season with Henne our offense will be solid. For the moment more offense is a luxury - drafting all defense is a necessity. This is the main reason why we have done more with the defense during the off season that anything else.

Hold it. The Sheriff is in town. Sergio Kindle SUCKS......at 12 overall. He made an impact in college because he overpowered the players. Playing among men he's gonna have to be faster than his 4.65 40 to make the immediate impact that people want him to have. I'm just afraid of having him on the outside trying to make a play on CJ2k. I think one of the biggest problems with our Defense last year was a lack of speed. I don't think Sergio would be much of a major impact given his speed. Then again I'm not an expert. Ask MUCK.

I see your point, but I have to disagree. You cant be good/strong in every area, free agency and the salary cap put to end to that strategy. I think in order to win in the NFL you dont have to be good on both sides of the ball as much as you need to be GREAT on one side or the other. Our side is offense, we've invested heavily there and we're only a couple players away from greatness. I say we get a great offense and then do what we can to help the defense.

Defense doesn't win games in today's NFL. An explosive passing attack does. Dominant defenses still get eaten alive by teams like the Colts and Jets. And a few rookie additions won't make our defense dominant. The rules have changed. Draft philosophy needs to change with it.

sounds like the marino years when we could put up 35 and still lose by 7
perhaps we shouldnt field a defense at all and let the opponent score at will
just to get the high powered offense back on the field to hope we win the shootout :wink2:

you still have to stop someone and build a defense
just as important in this offense driven league
