Ireland doesn’t tip hand – but they can’t pass on Bryant http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...09-20100408,0,6003969.column?page=1&track=rss nice write up by Dave Hyde.....
Very nice read, interesting that if we were to take an offer to move up how far and who? 5-6 to grab Berry? Trading back around 5 or so slots would be perfect for those of us who see something special in a Jerry Hughes. Some of us saw Dez Bryant not look like he cared enough at his pro day quitting on some drills before they were over, but remember this. Our regime made it very clear they are not interested in diva wr's, and their is NO WAY they take a guy with character issues. So if we do select Dez then that all but proves his "knocks" have been overblown and his character isnt that bad, our guys wouldnt make a bad decision like that. Article wasnt a ringing endorsment for Earl Thomas but that comment came from Hyde not Ireland. Cant wait for 2 weeks!
After watching the interview, I think he did indeed tip his hand, he said a good deal actually IMO. The part about making exceptions to the prototype and that some positions historically have succeeded in spite of not being prototype, and others haven't I thought was telling.
That was actually good to hear now we dont have to just "write off" guys like Graham and Hughes for minor reasons like a tad difference in heigth, if one thing worried me it was that our guy's were gonna be too stubborn to make the right pick. Im not so worried about that anymore.
as in everything ... there is a blueprint - then there are exceptions. for there to be an exception however, they must blow away the regime and competition. sometimes its a headscratcher as to why the regime 'falls in love' .... such as PW .... you can understand the concept - but not the actual talent the player brings. the good news is that Boomer gives us some insight as to potential players the regime has a propencity to 'love' in his weekly articles .... then you have players like Davis, who some like me had as a highly likely pick .... who just plain have talent, met our 'need' - and fell to us last year. there will be players like that again this year ... but we don't know 'who' that will be just yet -- but we can identify who the players with undeniable talent are, and the experts here have done that. find the ones with the talent that meet the prototype: Bryant, Morgan, Kindle, Griffen, Odrick, Iupati, McClain, Gresham, Gronkowski, Mays, Jones those with exceptional talent that might not meet the prototype: Berry, Spiller, Matthews, Graham, Hughes and according to some Thomas ... and i can't see us choosing a RB, G, TE, or SS in rd 1 .... so that leads us back to only a handful of candidates at 12 or later assuming we trade down ...
My hope is he goes before 12, which is a good one......as well, at 12 if Dez is there, somebody is offering something for him, cuz most teams have to know that he wont make it much futher past Miami, if he even makes it that far....if you could get an extra 1st round back, do you do it?? thats pretty much what it would take for any team from 20 on to jump to 12....I dont think I would hesitate in pulling that trigger... This is the question you have to ask....if the Dolphins select Dez Bryant at 12, are they SB contenders?? IMO they arent, and they arent contenders even if they selected Dez, and go defense the rest of the way as well.....until they are legit SB contenders, not talking Wild Card road playoff game losing contenders, but the Super Bowl, I believe they need to move towards that goal.....stack quality picks 1 and 2nd rounds, if you can....
Yep, this exactly. Iu am more nervous that he won't even be there at 12. I really don't think he will be. If he is, these guys jump on him like Rosie O'Donnel jumps on a jelly filled doughnut.
In the article a week or so ago (Omar Kelly, I think), it was reported that the character questions were indeed overblown and not a concern for this F.O. The concern they had was related to intelligence. I thought of Bryant when Ireland said in reference to player visits, "I may be bringing the player in for more chalk talk or to confuse the 11 teams that pick before me..." (or words to that effect).
Well if they are looking to move down and not up they have to make it seem sas if they would have no corrals taking Dez Bryant, so while Iam not saying it is a smokescreen it very well may be.
Its Sergio Kindle. Mark my words. I read the part about prototype as meaning receivers don't have to be prototype but linebackers do
If Dez Bryant is available at the 12th pick would the Dolphins pass on a chance to trade that selection for additional picks and a swap of 1st's? This is a deep draft and Miami needs more than a couple of early picks to fill specific needs. As good a pick as Dez Bryant might be, are their other options if we get the chance to trade and pick up additional talent? Don't get me wrong, it would be nice to get the best receiver in the draft one year but would it be worth the chance to be able to pick up one or two additional good players? Who knows if we even have the chance since someone in the first eleven picks may want Dez Bryant more than they are hinting at, or someone may be willing to trade in front of the Dolphins to take him before we get a chance.
it all depends on which report you read on Kindle, but according to most - he isn't 6'3" (very, very close) .... or 260+ albeit, he comes from a good program and worked under a successful NFL caliber DC in Muschamp. so, the questions would be: 1 - is he quick enough to be a WOLB ... Hughes and a few others are much quicker than him, and he is about the same size as Wake and Anderson. 2- is he strong enough to be a SOLB ... since he doesn't have the size and it doesn't require the same level of 'quickness' as WOLB. initially, i really thought it would come down to Morgan or Kindle depending upon which OLB position you were looking for .... and although i would prefer to find that special WOLB to wreek havoc ... i think Hughes (who is short) offers the best potential at WOLB -- then you could add in Graham. but at SOLB, its Morgan or Griffen ... i just don't see Kindle offering enough to warrant selection at 12 ... now if we trade down to 20+ ... maybe as far as Bryant is concerned ... i don't see us picking him either ... but then again, i've advocated all along that we will not pick at 12 -- and fully believe that. i understand what was 'said' about the prototype ... but i'll stick with it and make them prove us wrong ...
Disagree that a player can be worth the pick at 20 and somehow not worth the pick at 12. Its not about best player but rather the player that fits your system best.if that player is pegged at 31st pick he still rpresents a good pick at 12 since the goal of draftying is getting your players not adhering to mock draft values. I think kindle is the best fit for a parcells bullough type of 3-4. He is a blend of graham and hughes skills and has better size. Remember also that kindle actually played linebacker the year before so he will be ready to go day one
Ideally, Dez Bryant and Jimmy Clausen both drop, and we have several possible partners to trade down with.
Hopfully we do select Dez Bryant I think if we pass we will regret it for years i have been saying this for a while and i will keep on saying untill draft day
adam, disagree to a point ... there would be a select group that i would have that i would immediately select at 12 .... all else, i would trade down and take the risk of losing that player only to get a very slightly lesser player. Kindle does not come across as a special player ... argueably very good, but not special. Now, does the FO view it differently, who knows. IF Kindle were as quick as the other 4 WOLB prospects, then i would have him in the must have and probably even special category ... and not blink about picking him at 12; but he isn't as quick - not even close. Maybe he didn't practice the cone or shuttle, i don't know ... but to me - that measure of quickness is really important to getting around the corner and into the backfield; and why i like Hughes better.
I think he was just trying to let other teams know that we could take their guy. There is no reason to cross anyone off the list publicly. That can only hurt our chances of trading down.
I don't disagree per se. I also think hughes in a vaccum is a better prospect but I think kindle.is a better bullough 3-4 prospect. I think we'll run a traditional parcells 3-4 next year but its all speculation
I saw a thread around here saying that Ireland was either the best poker player ever or the absolute worst of all time when it comes to smokescreening the draft. Every time Ireland does an interview that rings more true.
So Hyde doesn't think we can pass on Bryant. Big deal. He's no more informed than many of our guys on this board and the feelings seem to be mixed about him... Just another opinion and it's doubtful he watched much in the way of clips/film...
Agreed. All these guys talking bout Sergio Kindle @12 didnt watch much film either. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qul0KgveR5k"]YouTube- DE/OLB Sergio Kindle Highlights/Lowlights 2009 Texas[/ame] The guy has no pass rush moves, is poor in coverage, and doesnt hold the edge. Ireland must jump for joy every time someone says we're gonna take him, or Pierre Paul, or Dan Williams. I even saw Jared Odric going to Miami @ 12 LMAO. No need to smokescreen when Gil Brandt, Mike Mayock, Peter King, & co. are doing it for you. As for Bryant, he'd be my guy @ 12. We've got to build around Henne if we want to be a contender. Ronnie and Ricky + the OL have the ability to create favorable matchups in the secondary and Henne has the arm to get the ball downfield, now we need guys who can exploit those matchups. Enter Dez. IMO, Bryant and Benn are the only number one type WRs in the draft and neither will be around @43. E Thomas is a close second, but grabbing a starting FS in round 2-3 will be alot easier than grabbing a WR.
Dez Bryant = Brady Quinn The funny thing to me is most of the mocks I have seen have McClain making it past us at 12. Even with Dansby signing I don't see that happening. Trading up for Berry would be good, but I don't see anyone else worth it. Trading down and getting extra picks is a good thing in this years draft I think. Not much dropoff in talent from 10-60 this year.
