Sparano truly believes that the Oline sets the tone for the entire team, Big Jake is nasty, Richie Incognito is the Megatron of Nasty, toss in he is a cheapy signing and it makes sense.

And...the paisan rule FY, with Deleware's Matt Marcorelle tearing up a knee Sparano has to hire at least one paisan a season..or no lasagna when he goes home to Connecticut...

    I'm half joking...but which half...:shifty:

I'd be very surprised if we got more than a 5th round pick for Smiley. I would take a 5th for him rather than cut him. We don't have a 5th in this year's draft at the moment.

I'm not so sure Incognito is as bad as you say Padre. I actually think he's our second best guard.

The trifecta needs to get rid of injury plagued players.Jake grove was also a huge mistake because he has never played a full season.I wanted jason brown last year from the ravens but they settled for injury prone jake long. The trifecta has sucked at picking free agents so far.

Bah humbug...Jake Grove certainly made up for any time missed with his play. For that matter, so did Smiley, but I can see why they want to move on him...with the ascension of Garner, Tsoumpas, Thomas and Berger...I certainly don't see those guys as a weakness. Dumping Smiley, whether its a trade or release, as was brought up in another thread about this, is asset reallocation... At any rate, I'll take anything we can get for Smiley. He's a much better deal for some other team as a trade than an UFA...we've already paid the signing bonus for whoever it is...

Tell me that at the end of next season when grove is on the sideline again. When a guy has injury problems with another team what makes you think a change of scenery will make him more durable.Hopefully they will learn from thier mistakes and not take this risk again.

Pretty crappy idea in my opinion seeing that we just signed Incognito to only a 1 year deal. So if he ends up playing really well, we will have to pay him Smiley type money to keep him around.

Different story if one of the other backups step up, but this seems to have hinged on Incognito.

What this does show is how strong our O-line has become....It is a strength of the team and where we have good depth....So you trade from a position of depth and maybe draft a guy in the 4th-5th round

Man, Im dissapointed. I really like Smiley and thought he was a perfect fit here. With that said, it looks like the team doesn't think Smiley has done enough to stay healthy. He's a real bright, football-minded guy. I heard him give interviews on the radio down here. He's a dude you'd want a beer with. Im gonna miss him.

Those are some pretty good players we have there, and guess what? They were all FA pick ups. Not to mention, Justin Smiley and Jake Grove, though with injury issues, are pretty damn good offensive lineman who helped us win games that past 2 seasons.

Yes, there are some busts we've picked up via FA the past few years but no one's perfect. But we sure did pick up a lot of talent as well who have played extremely well for us.

I disagree. Even without Smiley in the mix, Incognito could compete with Berger at LG, and Garner was starting ahead of Thomas late in the year at RG. Berger is a natural guard who proved in his time replacing Grove that he deserves serious consideration as a starter somewhere on the line. He won't start ahead of a healthy Grove, so that leaves guard. Thomas needs to beat out at least Garner to be a starter again. Thomas needs to prove that between he, Berger, Garner and Incognito, that he is one of the two best, To this point, he has not done that. Our best run blocking line would be with Berger and Incognito at the guards IMO. If one wanted a little better pass blocking, then Garner would have a shot at one of the two starting jobs. With Smiley as good as gone, Garner is probably our best pass blocking guard.

So you are suggesting the Seahawks would trade Lofa Tatupu straight across for Smiley? A 3 time pro bowler and one time All Pro who is still only 27 yrs old? A MLB who is ideally suited for the 4-3 MIKE? That is who they are going to trade us?

If you look at just his run blocking, Incognito is already our best guard. He just needs to keep the penalties and his temper under control.

I quoted earlier smiley and grove were injury prone before they got here and they still are injury prone. They will not be here to make a run for the super bowl either will pennington or ferguson.Thats leaves us with starks, polite, bess, carpenter (please a kicker). That is not that impreessive to me in two years with all the press the trifecta gets.
Lets see all the other great picks, wilford, eric green, david kirkus, reggie torbor, keith davis, and my favorite of all wilson.
This is our 3rd year and we still have way to many holes to compete for the division let alone the superbowl. They better have a hell of a draft.

Ya'll forget... Miami does need to field a team. You know... 53 players. Two years ago Parcells inherited a team that went 1-15. How many of those players did you want to keep?

I'd rather have players who are good for the 9 games they play then players who suck for 16 right now. Were their better players available... maybe... but at what cost, did those players want to play here, did the our FO think they fit our system. There are all these variables and others I'm sure I'm not even considering. All these FAs are holdovers till we draft their replacements anyway.

All I know is this, I like were we are today, better then last year and better then the year before. We somehow have 10 draft picks this year, compare that to NE who has 12 even when gifted 3 or 4 comp picks (like every year).

Doubt the FO moves all you want, but the average level of talent on this team is increased every year. I'll take that steady improvement over the redskins who look like champions every off season.

Bottom line 3rd year in we are the 3rd best team in this division.10 picks is great but we better pick the right players this year and no pat white picks.

Enough with the pick obsession. Take the proven player not some lousy fourth or fifth round pick. Regardless of who has been drafting look at our fourth-fifth round picks. For that matter look at those picks of the league. It isn't pretty. Take the depth, morons. Stop obsessing over your pick orgy that you blow you on Pat White and Pat Turner. You got Brian Hartline last year, that doesn't mean you'll get one again. Don't mess with the offensive line and the leadership of the team, YET AGAIN.
