Scout.com is reporting that "a pre-draft visit (is scheduled) on March 29, according to Scout.com's Adam Caplan."

With the firing of our DC immediately after the season ended, the cutting of three defensive players, the rapid signing of Dansby on day one of the Free Agency and now this pre-draft visit of a CB on March 29th, I think their actions tell us that this will be an all defensive draft.

Where do you find this stuff?! You must really have your ear to the RR tracks in Miami.

It seems pretty odd though. With the signing of Davis and Smith last year why draft a corner - unless they want to convert him into a FS?

no Earl Thomas is the perfect fit at FS, no conversion needed

Except that he's a liability against the run due to his inability to tackle.

From my understanding the FS is almost allowed to a certain extent to be a liability in tackling as that is primarily designated to the SS. As long as the FS can be a ball hawk then I think most people will give them a pass in tackling a bit. I may be wrong, but that's just my understanding.

As far as Cornerbacks, if he drops that far I want Joe Haden from Florida. Aside from being a Gator Homer, Haden is a true shut down corner. If by a miracle he dropped he could be penciled in across from Vontae and then Sean Smith could be moved to Saftey. This could work, because I have read several analysts especially pre-draft say that he would be a better safety due to his long frame and lack of fluidity in the hips a corner would need.

Unfortunately, there was no mention of the name of the visiting CB and not having an account myself I was unable to see it. Sorry for the teaser, but I really don't know. This is all the info I have.

This makes you wonder: which one aren't they happy with. Davis or Smith?

Why does it have to have anything to do with Davis or Smith? Nate Jones is gone and Jason Allen is not the answer. could be for nickel CB spot.

You mention "As long as the FS can be a ball hawk then I think most people will give them a pass in tackling a bit.

How would moving Smith to a position that you said would require a ball hawk when he showed NO ability whatsoever as a ball hawk.

Zero interceptions with over 900+ defensive snaps is the exact opposite of ball hawk

    I just don't see him as a free safety...ever

First that wasn't my suggestion, it was something I had read about his pre-draft analysis IIRC. Secondly it's mostly about his ability to play the position that could hinder/help ball hawking abilities. As I mentioned his lack of fluidity of hips, and tall size can hinder him as a CB and if he can't play the CB position well it can prevent him from making plays. If however you move him to FS where he can kind of 'roam' and not have to press or stay with a CB in man off of the LOS than his tall frame can be utilized better.

Now I am no draft analysis, I am merely trying to remember what I have read about him before.

    EDIT I found this.

Strengths: Smith is a big and athletic cornerback who can match up against opponents' No. 1 receivers and help against the run. Thanks to his large frame, Smith excels at jamming opponents at the line of scrimmage. Great in man coverage. A perfect fit against tall receivers. Has good high-point agility. Solid anticipation skills to make a play on the ball. A former receiver with good hands. Hasn't really been used in blitz situations but has the tools to excel in this area of the game. He really came on during his junior year and played well in Utah's biggest games.

Weaknesses: Some consider Smith a free safety prospect because he's stiff in the hips and has trouble keeping up with quick receivers. When tackling, Smith needs to stay lower to get better leverage against opponents. Struggles some in zone coverage when he has to freelance. Much better in man-to-man. Has only played two years on defense and is still learning the position. Reportedly has an arrogance about him, which could dismay some teams.

So disregard what I said about the pressing part because that is apparently a strength for him. But I was right about the stiff hips and some thinking he's a FS

    I smell a smokescreen.
They want other teams to think they are interested in a CB so they can use that to trade down with someone in the event Haden falls to #12.
    Here's hoping it happens.

Works for me assuming Haden or any other CB is an improvement over Smith and Smith is a big upgrade over any other free agent or draft options.

The 29th visit is with Nolan Carroll of Maryland IIRC. I don't have Scout insider but I think it's him.

WOW - good post. This is something that I didn't think of. A nickel could make a lot of sense.

    That is inaccurate.

I watched pretty much every Texas game this last season (not by choice) and when it comes to tackling receivers, Thomas is going to lay the wood on them 9/10 times.

He is also going to make solid tackles on your average sized backs, and your speed backs.

No he isn't going to tackle the Brandon Jacobs of the world 1-1 in the open field, and may have trouble with a few TE. However at FS as long as he can make the tackles he is expected to, I have no issue. Because his ball skills far outweigh whatever he lacks tackling, which isnt very much.
