Sooooooooo, Chevy, Chrysler, Acura, Honda, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, BMW, Infinity, Lexus, Audi, Aston Martin, etc should all be embarrassed that they make cars? Henry Ford did invent them.

Nintendo should get over themselves already. If that is the case, the entire nation of Japan should be embarrassed, since, well, they are innovators, not inventors (typically, don't flame). Where is Nintendo from again?

Take a look at this. Nintendo is embarassed that their motion control isn't nearly as refined and perfected as Sony's, and probably Microsofts when it comes out.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnuyaIIOyz8"]YouTube- Sony Playstation 3 Motion Controler - E3 Tech Demo HD[/ame]

EDIT: If you don't watch the whole thing, be sure to watch 8:10 and beyond.

    INCREDIBLE.

Where does that leave Nintendo? One of 3 motion control consoles with PS1 graphics. Looking forward to the next installment of Nintendo, really I am, it will be unique, but there is nothing wrong with what Sony and MS are doing. It is competition.

    Since when?

Overall I agree with you. Sony's looks much more polished, though their success (much like with their console) will be tied to how good the software is.

I understand Wii's graphics aren't on the PS3's or 360's level, but the exaggeration of the system's graphical inferiority is mind boggling.

I really have to give it to Nintendo for throwing together some outdated technology and making it successful. Now it's being copied and improved on which is a good thing.

People tend to over exaggerate when making a point, human nature, not mind boggling. Don't take it literally, you get the point.

If you want me to rephrase what I meant, when PS3 and MS come out with their version of motion censoring, the Wii will be an inferior system in regards to both control mechanisms and graphics.

They will still be successful though because their games are fun and are set to unveil some big titles like a Zelda, Metroid and a new Mario that should have the Nintendo enthusiasts excited. Plus they’ve captured a large market share with their Wii Platform and the young gamers market where parents buy the wii so their kids can interact. I don’t think they will lose that market because of the price point Nintendo is at and kids can enjoy games without a steep learning curve.

Nintendo should be used to this by now. Other companies have ALWAYS ripped off Nintendo's innovations.

The NES was the first console to feature a d-pad controller, all consoles since have featured a controller with a d-pad.

The N64 was the first console to feature a thumbstick. SEGA, Sony, and Microsoft have all followed suit.

The Wii is the first console to feature motion-sensing control. Sony and Microsoft are ripping off Nintendo's innovation as we speak.

The fact of the matter is this. Pretty much every major technological innovation the video game industry has seen, Nintendo was the first to bring it to us. Reggie is right, it is a little embarassing for Sony and Microsoft. There is a reason why they're a distant 2nd and 3rd. People are tired of the same ****, but with improved graphics. People want innovation, that's why Nintendo is so far ahead of their competition.

As it sits right now, the Wii is synonymous with motion-sensing control, like Kleenex is to facial tissue. People are going to reject these blatant (and likely very expensive) rip-offs, and I can't see them catching on.

But the thing is, the Wii has motion-sensing controll right out of the box.

How much extra money will people be willing to pay to add motion sensing control to their already expensive console?

Are the games going to be anything other than Wii game rip-offs with better graphics?

That is exactly my point later in my post as to why Nintendo will maintain their market share. Costs aside though, which is better? It is clear that the PS so far is the best. It monitors yaw, pitch, angle, depth, everything.

Some PS games may be rip offs, but the possibilities of what they can accomplish far surpass that of the Wii. Look at the sword and bow and arrow demo in the vid i embedded. Plus, can they be called rip offs when the general premise of most Wii games are so simple? If PS comes out with a bowling game, tennis game, or a darts game, is that really a rip off?

Imagine God of War 4? No more scripted attacks, you use your sword(s) and shield as you normally would in real life. The Wii can't capture those complex movements - yet.

To be fair, Microsoft and the PC crowd was rocking analog sticks way before the consoles. I know you're talking about consoles in your statement, but in the N64's era, Microsoft was already doing it on the PC.

When it all boils down to it, Microsoft actually did the motion sensing on the old Sidewinder PC controllers before the Wii as well. Microsoft did these things FIRST. Nintendo did it right.

You know how got damn tired I'd be after 10 minutes of hacking and slashing in a game like GoW? I don't think I'd like that type of game very much with that kind of control scheme!

It'd be really sweet for something less fast-paced.

I know there were a few analog stick controllers for PC that pre-date Nintendo's. But those were controllers for a very limited number of games.

My point was that Nintendo was the first to bring them to the masses, boxed in with their console.

    Good point.

It would really be sweet for an RPG where you exlpore like FF, Dragon Age or something and then are faced with occasional melees here and there. One on ones with bosses and stuff. That would be awesome.

I see things a bit different. Part of the beauty of video games (to me at least) is the fantasy of being this other person. In RPGs you get to go from a loser or a nobody to this all power swordsman or magic user. If a game is mimicking your motions 1 to 1 exactly, then it's at the mercy of you knowing how to use a sword and be decent at it. What good is a video game where you can develop into a badass if it's limited to how good at flailing around the user is?

    Just a thought.

Maybe it could lead to something really cool, though.

If a nerd gets picked on at school real bad, instead of the tired old gun thing, he'll bring a SWORD to school and hack up his tormenters!

Technically didn't Sony get the jump on Nintendo with this motion control gaming with the Eye-Toy for the PS2?

It's a copy cat industry and Sony/Microsoft just want to get in on the money even if they blatantly use the ideas of Nintendo.

Also Nintendo went with the whole mini-disc thing with the GameCube and how was that adopted by others?

Whatever is successful the others will copy regardless if Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo started it. I don't think one company is more of an innovator than the other.

I know that was sarcastic but that isn't far from the truth.

Nintendo would have been the first to move away from cartridges if they would have went through with the plans to add a CD drive to the SNES. They didn't wanna share the profit and dropped the idea. Sony decided to make a CD based system themselves and then tied Nintendo up in litigation barring them from creating one of their own. This is one of the main reasons Nintendo didn't have an optical drive console until the Gamecube.
