Wouldn't it be nice if we could go back in time and fix things. I think drafting Ted Ginn over Patrick Willis was the dumbest mistake we've ever made. We could have had the best LB in football, but instread we have a guy who cannot catch the ball and not likely to get any better. Can any of you think of a bigger mistake on draft day than what we did in 2007? :pity:

    Roman....

The past decade we regularly made the "worst draft mistakes ever" every single year!

Ginn was a mistake but we've had worse over the past 10 years.
Don't think I need to name all the boneheaded Wanny drafts do I?

    It's all past history now.
Just have to try and forget and hope this crew does much better in our drafts.
So far they have although the Pat White pick really took me back to the Wanny years and caused me some concern.

    Chew on this:

Ronnie Brown over Demarcus Ware. Yeah I said it. Ronnie is a beast but can't stay healthy, and gives us 800 yards on average, a year on the ground. 6 tds/year is decent. But at #2, stats wise,he's been a disappointment. We can play this game with every position really.

And it isn't even the worse. We could have had Drew Brees.

Eddie Moore over Boldin is worse. Jason Allen over a slew of other players is probably worse as well. You can't have a perfect draft every year, so what's the point of this thread?

The point is some teams know how to draft (Patriots) while some organizations never learn. That's why we are going on 35+ years of not getting another SB ring.

Hate to say it, but J. Allen is a bigger failure the Ginn! Ginn while disappointing has at times had impact plays and ignited the team! Both Jets games this year is a prime example. The best we can say about Allen is he is servicable on ST. I want a little more then that from a guy picked in the top 50% of the first round.

Hey how about we go buy some Patrick Willis jerseys, poke little nails and staples through the fabric's meshwork and camp out in front of the Davie NSU Headquarters whipping ourselves with them?

    How about these:

    Fletcher over Brees
    Carey over Wilfork
    Brown over Ware and Merriman
    J Allen over D Ryan
    Ginn over Willis and Revis
    Long over Gholston
    and
    Davis over H Nicks

the point is, there is no point.....speculation and conjecture = pointless in every sense of the word and exercise. We have made it back to the SB and to AFC Championship games all since our last SB victory.

A lot goes into what it takes to win our next SB. Drafting and getting value from the draft is a piece of the puzzle, but its not the end all or be all....no more than FA, trades, or play calling...its about execution in many facets.

totally agree, I guess he is not the lightening rod Ginn is because he is never on the field to screw up and he never shows those frustrating flashes that Ginn does.

So why not create a thread talking about our drafting history rather than just comparing one pick from one year? In 2006 the Pats took Laurence Maroney and Chad Jackson with their first two picks. Not exactly stellar. They could have had Deangelo Williams or Santonio Holmes over Maroney, and they could have had MJD or Marcus McNeill over Chad Jackson.

I'm not a Ginn fan per say, but we use him the wrong way. He should be like Alvin Harper was in Dallas run him on deep post, flags and go routes. Throw it to him 4 or 5 times a game and expect 4 rec for 80+yds and a td or 2. I saw several times in the final 6 games that Ginn had single man coverage with no safety help beats his man off the line and not even a look. That tells me he was just a decoy. So what were the coaches in the box wayching?

What We need is that explosive dominate WR underneath like Irvin was.

Vernon Carey is one of the best, if not the best, RT in the NFL.
Jake Long is one of the best, if not the best, young LT in the NFL.
Vontae Davis was just drafted last year and had 3 INTs.

You can't be serious with the Long & Gholston one. It's not even close.

COME ON MAN! Shouldn't we expect the 16th pick to make the starting line up on a consistent basis?

Ginn on the other hand is frustrating no doubt! The drops we can fix, but what I struggle with is the falling down and going out of bounds. 1.4 yac this year sucks and pisses me off! He never even tried to break open a play, it was catch and go down, drop, or get out of bounds!

While I would generally agree, last year they hit on a few players. I really like Chung, Butler and Vollmer. Their 08 draft was a bit of a disaster in that Mayo is the only above avg player IMO. For that matter their 07 draft was even worse. Merriweather is the only decent player from that draft. The 06 draft brought them Maroney and Gostkowski.

Basically, they have not drafted well in some time. They have remained a winning team due to Brady and some of the FA moves they have made.

    1. your smoking crack if you think Carey is one of the best RT's in the NFL

    2. Long v Gholston was a joke... especially since the Jets drafted him.

    3. I dont have a problem with the Davis pick. I mean I would have picked Nicks but then again I had a man crush on him.

Would you be happy with this in 2010??? Here is what the Patriots can look forward to in the upcoming draft:

    1st Round (22nd Overall)
    2nd Round (Jaguars 44th Overall)
    2nd Round (Titans 47th Overall)
    2nd Round (53rd Overall)

Like I said, some organizations know how to draft and some don't.

Nope, it wouldnt. Ted Ginn Jr is the greatest player in NFL history.

    OR

We could go through every draft's 1st roudnrs and look at who we took and pick the best player in that draft that came after and find the same thing year after year. On the positive side, we got Marino late in the draft. Maybe we're repaying the Karma from that?:wink2:

so you agree, we have made it back to the SB and the AFC championship game since our last SB win......I am glad you proved it 4 times.

With our current FO, that has nothing to do with the Ginn draft, we will get back as well. :hi5:

Hard to disagree with the bigdog...........

It is odd though looking at it all those years with the great Marino and all we got to brag about was 1 superbowl appearance and 2 AFC games that we lost in.
