Who else could the phins pick up in FA to fill the holes in their defense, so that they can spend a 1st or second round pick on a reciever.

At FS Atogwe, Clarke or Sharper, any NT would be a rotaional guy all the good ones were tagged. For the right price Witherspoon who the Eagles just cut would be nice. That's about it, although I might be missing 1 or 2.

Ben Watson could possibly be the athletic TE we need. His blocking is solid, so he could play on two TE sets and still run the ball well.

I just do not want to overpay for a safety. I would rather draft earl thomas and insert him as a starter from day 1. He cant do any worse than Gibril. I think we need to either get the NT SD let go, or the DT let go by the Panthers. I know they are both coming off injuries but can come cheap and be a stop-gap for a couple years.

I just wish we had an opportunity to get one of the SD receivers. I just do not want to give a 1st and 3rd. I wonder if we could package some type of deal with Ronnie. I would not draft Dez with our 12th overall pick.

Well...I think Joey Porter is a FA :shifty:
But, if not, I wouldn't mind JT being resigned.
Others: Scott Fujita, Larry Foote, Danieal Manning are some possibilities in addition to the ones already mentioned

Thomas or Berry won't make it to 12 and I doubt we trade up to get either of them. Don't worry about over spending the cap is gone and all early indications are the Trifecta worked Dansby as a cap friendly deal, unlike the Bears who will be screwed with Peppers if there is another cap and at the earliest it would be 2012.

I think going after second tier safeties to save money is a bad idea! We paid GERBIL 5.5 mil to cost us several games, then we had to pay him more money to cut him. My take on Ross saying spend wisely wasn't him saying be cheap. It was him saying stip bringing in the McCown's GERBILs, Greens, Wilfords etc..... Ross is the type of owner that will give you all the tools and stay out of your way, but he won't except failure and waste.

I agree with the "no cap" issue. However, eventually there will be a cap (probably in 2011) so we kinda have to watch what we do. If we are smart, we can negotiate contracts a little different to all the FA's we sign this year. Instead of giving huge signing bonuses, we can give them reasonable signing bonuses and do a larger roster bonus in may or June. What that does is eats all the roster bonus money in the year it is paid, where a signing bonus is prorated over the term of the contract. It would just keep some of the money off the books for future years.

If we were able to get one of the 2nd tier FA safeties, I would be all for it. IMO, I just think either Berry or Thomas will be there for us at 12 and think they are both studs.

The only time I want to see Popcorn back in our stadium is when we PUNK him like New England did! Then I will stomach his fat head on our jumbotrons! Only because it will be followed by the words Joey Porter 0 tackles 0 sacks!

I would like to see us just tweak the offer we gave Rolle and get Atogwe. The trifecta was going after Dansby and still made a big offer to Rolle so it is numbers they are comfortable with. No more second tier in our secondary! That got us Eric Green and GERBIL! And I can't stand to watch another Dolphin player following Shockey giving him a hand job for 65yds!

I'm surprised to hear you think Thomas will be gone. Rarely do safeties go in the top-10, and while we both agree Eric Berry will, I'm not seeing Earl Thomas going in the top-11 picks.

No particular order: Bradford, Clausen, Suh, McCoy, Okung, Berry, Bryant, Morgan, Bulaga will all probably be gone by 12, and I'm just not seeing a spot for Thomas beforehand.

Your opinion on why he'll be gone, and where he would go? Not a lot of top-10 teams have such few holes as to take an Earl Thomas that high.

I honestly don't think any of the free agent safetys are worth much money. I would like Sharper here, he has the most experience and can still play at a high level and we can bring a young guy to learn from him. But I am reading the talks between him and the Saints are going well so it's a matter of time before he signs with them again. Who ever we bring in at Safety from free agency will not be our long term answer, I think the long term answer will come from the draft.

We also need to look at the OLB and NT positions. Still a lot of work to do.

Earl Thomas impressed a lot of teams at the combone. He came in bigger, faster, then expected. He is said to have the best cover skills at the combine, even the CB's. Teams like Tamp, Cleveland, and Seattle would be likely spots for Berry and Thomas.

Just my thoughts not by any stretch an expert!

im hoping we sign a Saftey and draft a OLB in the second round so we can draft D. Bryant or Trade down and draft A. Benn. then with our third we go NT and go TE in the fourth. the with the rest of our picks draft the BPA
