We all remember the 90's... the economy was booming and no one was a Patriots fan, apparently some things never change. As the new millenium came, the Patriots managed to win 3 of 4 super bowls and was considered one of the premier teams in the league every year - an amazing accomplishment. However another amazing thing was also happening at the same time, Patriot fans were coming out of the woodwork. These "fans" came in all shapes and sizes, but the one thing they had in common was their claims that they have been fans their whole life, having nothing to do with their recent success... something no one believed. Well I am here to announce a great event occurring- the reversal of this trend. The Patriots have not been relevant since 2007 or won since 2004 and appear to be on a potential decline. In addition to Patriots fan's sighting becoming less frequent, I have even had one denounce his fan hood of the Patriots to me. He blamed his future career as a sports writer (yeah right), but acknowledged he would be a fan is they were in the super bowl (of course). Anyway, the point of this thread is to rejoice as the fair weather Patriot fans are finally disappearing.
I know more about the Patriots than the vast majority of Pats fans [I use the term 'fan' loosely here] I've met in the last ten years. They were on par with the Steelers for a while with bandwagon fans. It is easing off now thank God.
The Pats stole their first SB after the snow job game against the Raiders.....now they are no longer getting all the calls and breaks, even though the NFL creates a new rule every time Brady gets tackled. There should be a criminal investigation in how the Patriot's owner (Kraft) used tax payer bailout money to create Patriot's Place at his new stadium. The Pats had their 4 or 5 years in the sun and now they are on the decline. Ohhh and YES their fans are all bandwagon fans....I never saw a Pat's jersey or hat on anyone before 2000.
Since spygate, the NFL doesn't let them get very far anymore, and thus they're not looking like an invincible team.
The funny thing is that was happening at the end of the 3rd quarter. It says final in the picture but they must have been showing the footage from earlier. And I'll never forget that game. The feeling of beating them in NE when no one picked us. Actually, it felt just as good to beat them this year with Brady when nobody picked us again. Most Patriots fans don't bother me, but the ones who think they are all that are horrible. For example, in August I was in upstate NY, and in a bar/restaurant with a Dolphins jacket and hat on. Some Patriots fans who were obviously the bandwagon type were like "Dolphins suck!" and then "Brady's back-automatic Super Bowl." I just laughed.
I live in New England and most of my friends are Patriot fans so I will defend them. Most of these guys are real fans of the game, they are passionate about them as much as we are about our Phin's. I will say we should take a closer look at our team, over the years the stadium as got emptier and emptier with fans, so if Miami had a really great team that went to the Superbowl three of four years would the stadium be full ? We in Dolfan land have our fare share of fare weather fans who constantly jump on and off the band wagon. I hate the Pats with my my guts I live by an old saying the two best things in the world is watching Miami win and New England lose. By the way Steve Grogan was the QB he wore number 12 and back then I use to refer to the Patriots as Grogans Zero's.
You're right, old age getting to me, I know he did lead the Patriots to their first Super Bowl towards the back end of his career. I also remember he had Stanly Morgan to throw too also, now that's a blast to the past.
I was at that game. Awesome sight. We were waving goodbye to those chumps at the start of the 4th quarter.
