What the scouting reports say

Positives: Ultra talented. Excellent size, speed, athleticism. Strong and explosive. Physical. Good ball skills. Natural hands. Plays the run well. Gym rat.

Negatives: Consistency. Lapses in concentration. Concerns of attitude, coachability. Same issues as his brother.

Instant Analysis
Davis is expected to compete with veterans Eric Green and Jason Allen for the starting job opposite Will Allen, who is in the final year of his contract. In a division with Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Lee Evans, Wes Welker, Joey Galloway, James Hardy, etc., the Dolphins address an admitted big need created by the departure of Andre’ Goodman to Denver.

What the scouting reports say

Positives: Live arm. Decent accuracy. Good awareness and anticipation. Great athlete. Has speed, quicks and vision. Great runner in the open field. Smart.Tough. Intangibles. A leader and a winner.

Negatives: Small, thin build for a QB. Played in a shotgun spread offense. Has taken a lot of hits. Little experience as a receiver. Does he have a true position?

Instant Analysis
This pick may have come as a shock to most Dolphin fans. But not NFL Network’s Charlie Casserly, who said Bill Parcells told him last fall that he would draft White the following spring.

While the full scope of his role is yet to be determined, White will have an immediate impact in the Dolphins’ Wildcat formation. A four-year starter at Morgantown, White is an electrifying player whose role as a run/pass threat in the Mountaineer offense is not all that different from what he’ll do from the Wildcat. The Dolphins will introduce a whole new dimension to their offense, as they now have a serious threat to pass out of the formation. Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland said he considers White a quarterback who will compete with Chad Henne at the position.

Born February 25, 1986. Tremendous baseball player, winning two state titles as a pitcher/outfielder. Drafted in the fourth round by the Anaheim Angels in 2004. Selected by the Angels again in 2007, and by the Reds in 2008.

2B. Sean Smith
Cornerback | Utah

  Age: 21 | Pasedena, CA
Height: 6-31/2 | Weight: 209 | 40-Time: 4.43

What the scouting reports say

Positives: Rare size, long arms, very athletic. Great leaper. Good hands and ball skills. Physical and aggressive. Excels in press coverage. Supports the run. Highly confident.

Negatives: Struggles in off coverage. Raw technically. Should be a better tackler. Relatively inexperienced.

Instant Analysis
Miami goes cornerback again, drafting the safety-sized Smith in Round 2.

Smith is still fairly raw, as he’s only been playing defense for two years. Nonetheless, his combination of size/speed/athleticism is undeniable and he’s flashed considerable skills in college. Will compete for playing time in Miami right away, but likely needs more work before he’s ready to start.

3. Patrick Turner
Wide Receiver | Southern California

  Age: 21 | Nashville, TN
Height: 6-51/8 | Weight: 223 | 40-Time: 4.59

WR Patrick Turner #19 Wide Receiver – UniversalDraft.com
#26 Cornerback – Scott Wright’s Draft Countdown

What the scouting reports say

Positives: Great size, long arms, good hands. Solid route runner. Beats the jam. Strong and will block.

Negatives: Lacks speed and agility. Not as physical as he should be. Doesn’t get much separation.

Instant Analysis
Turner is the latest in a string of huge receivers brought in by the Parcells regime. And they will continue bringing them in until they hit on one. The acquisition of Turner does not bode well for Ernest Wilford.

The knock on him was that he did not stand out despite playing with an all-star cast at USC. But Turner had a solid senior season, scoring 10 TD’s followed by a great week at the Senior Bowl. Profiles as a possession receiver, and while not overly quick or fast, Turner presents a potentially huge target in the redzone.
