I think emotions are starting to run a bit high. Dial it back a bit.

If anyone is using playoff wins as THE measuring stick to determine whether or not the Dolphins are a good team…a great team, you’re using a flawed form of measurement.

At the end of the day, you either won or you lost. That much is true but there are many other determining factors, one of which I would submit is overall output. I’ll get back to that in a second.

While everyone likes to point at players, no one in these discussions point to coaches. We all have to remember, players on the field are nothing more than chess pieces on the board that are being maneuvered by the coaching staff. Coach calls this play and players execute THAT play. If it succeeds, the players are praised and immortalized. If it fails the players are booed and hissed and told how badly they suck. But the players did what they were told to do. Keep that in the back of your mind for a moment.

Anyone who disagrees the Dolphins overall output for the last 2 seasons under the McDaniel regime has been poor is being disingenuous. Offensively the team has led or nearly led the league in yards, points scored and time of possession. This is undeniable. It can’t be disputed. Defensively, the defense rated much better last season than they had in 2022 with Boyer as DC. The players were doing what was asked of them. Can’t fault them for that. So then the question becomes, with all of this league leading output, why didn’t it equate to more victories and a deep post season run? This is where folks tend to become unreasonable.

Whether you agree or disagree, injuries are always a factor. Only an unreasonable person would disagree. If anyone thinks Savon Ahmed is a better running back than Raheem Moestert, you’re being unreasonable. If anyone thinks Kendall Lamm is a better LT than Terron Armstead, you’re being unreasonable. If anyone thinks Liam Eichenburgh is a better Center than Conner Williams. You’re being unreasonable. I’ve beat this horse long enough.

Secondly, while everyone who is so emotionally wrapped around the axle as to why we didn’t win this game or that game, for crying out loud, can we not recognize that they opposition just played that much better? Since Josh Allen became the starter in Buffalo, the Bills have lost to the Dolphins only once. Why? The Dolphins had 2 cracks at the Chiefs last season and came up short both times. Why? Could it be the Chiefs are coached by one of the greatest living head coaches in the modern era?

The Dolphins have the talent, they have had the production and are indeed able to be that team we all want them to be.

And once again, context matters. The Dolphins lost to the Bills the second time, a depleted Dolphins team, because of a punt return for a TD. A depleted Dolphins defense held down the Bills pretty good. The depleted Dolphins offense scored the same amount of points as the Bills offense. The Dolphins defense gave up the same amount of points and actually (due to the 96 yrd punt return) had the Dolphins tied with less than half of the 4th quarter to go. Only a dummy would think a full strength Dolphins team wouldn’t have fared better considering that half of their starters were not playing.

They win the east if Chub takes a few more steps before taking his helmet off vs Ten, but he didn't, and they didn't. Results are results.

I judge a GM by team building process and I like what Grier does. Objectively, I don't see how anyone can claim he is a bad drafter. I also don't see how they can claim he isn't elite at getting value with his trades. He builds teams for schemes and changes desired traits in players to match scheme. He swings for the fences on high value picks. Ceiling over floor, roll the dice on injuries, trust coaching to fix technique if physical traits are elite. I am here for that. Strive for greatness.

The team is good enough to win now, and was good enough to win last year. They got unlucky with injuries, it happens. It's also more likely to happen with how he builds teams. How he builds is also why his teams and players are more likely to put up all time performances. As stated, I am here for it. I think it is going to pay off with championships as well. I think the Dolphins are going to be perennially in the hunt and will be as good as their injury luck is with the potential to have true greatness.

    Yes, it is a fact.

But you can't excuse the failed season based on injuries while simultaneously defending the guy who continues to create the problem.

Also, you just can't help but be inflammatory, can you? I wasn't "whining" (glad you spelled it right), I was legitimately asking how facts are being called "cherry picking."

You guys make every excuse for Tua, Grier, and McDaniel, yet you didn't give ANY excuses to guys like Tannehill, most recently.

I just don't agree that the Dolphins are "one of the most talented teams." Obviously we don't have the same thoughts on Tua, but we'll leave that aside. Hill/Waddle are absolutely great, but dues that mean we have the best receiving corps? Oline sucks. TE sucks. RB is good, but I don't think we have the best running backs. Defense has a bunch of problems also.

Regardless, most talented or not, we don't produce wins like the most talented team in the league.

    I know I know, injuries.

If GM’s didn’t draft or trade for players based solely on injuries no one would be playing. Nearly all players have suffered injuries. Pump ignored my question so I’ll ask you. Injured players like Burrows? He’s missed more games than Tua and he’s been the starter from day one. Injuries happen. And a player that tears an ACL may get injured some other way. How is a GM going to predict that?
You’re too sensitive, and you whine, a lot. You asked how facts are cherry picking and you had it explained to you, twice. And yet here you are trying to act like that’s not possible.

Here’s a fact, Chris Grier has a degree in journalism. What does that “fact” have to do with his ability to be a GM? It doesn’t. His degree has as much to do with his GM abilities as does the number of ROY players he’s drafted. ROY means very little when it comes to how good of a career a player will have.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda, we all will see next season, if the Dolphins are one of the most talented teams in the NFL. I sure hope so, but I don’t see it. I think we‘ll take a step back next year not in form of sucking but I‘m not really thinking we‘ll make the playoffs. For me that would not be enough to warrant for Grier to stay, but I have a feeling he‘ll be here no matter what happens…

Actually didn't see it until now.
But Burrow has at least done something in this league like actually get to a superbowl and is 3-1 against Mahomes. The Bengals Gm has failed him building a line just as we will be seeing Grier failing Tua.
My prediction u heard it here first.

No, they’re both good at what they do, but like everyone else they’re wrong as often as they are right.

Hyde thinks the Dolphins are in “win now” mode. Other experts disagree with that. I also disagree. They’ve definitely got a window, but it’s not next year or nothing. The Dolphins have a very talented and well coached team. Not even Hyde or Poupart (so?) would disagree with that and they also wouldn’t act like injuries don’t matter.

A lot around here think the Dolphins are ruined because they lost Wilkins and Hunt. Losing those two sucked, but this team doesn’t revolve around their d or o lines. And for sure don’t revolve around those two players.

All of the handwringing about Paul is funny to me. He was the best pass pro T in all of college last year. Sure, we will hear people complain about his technique being poor, but if it was so poor how was that possible? And if it is so bad, imagine how much better he can be if he’s taught better. Same with Chop. People complaining about his lack of sacks, but his pressure was the best in all of college football. Disruption is production.

Now, will those two bust? Maybe. Will they be all pros? Maybe. Will they be average? Maybe. The same can be asked of every single person drafted. No one knows. However, not being able to have an objective thought, and just blatantly saying this draft was no good before anyone’s played one game is ridiculous. Especially if that is coming from so called fans of a team. I’ll never understand how a “fan” can have no optimism about the team they supposedly root for.

And the biggest difference between what these two said and what others have been saying around here is they at least have reasonable thoughts and opinions. I mean, it’s all just opinions at this point, but at least they can back theirs up with things other than “ROY” or “playoff win”.

Yea, completely ignoring the question because it destroys the “drafting injured player, blah, blah, blah” mantra is a bad argument.
Has Burrow missed more NFL games than Tua due to injuries? Yea, he has. So how do you explain that since he wasn’t injury plagued in college? If only previously injured players get injured how is this possible?

Ur such a Homer and it's so annoying!
U have never admitted once.on this site they u can possibly be wrong.
And stop.comparing Burrow to Tua.Burrow was healthy enough to go to superbowl and go into Buffalo in playoffs and kick the Bills ***!Something we the team Grier built has been incapable of.
And as for injuries let's rely on a left tackle that averaged missing 5 games a season before we signed him.How has that worked out?
Grier has not built a.contender so get over it!
Contenders beat good teams and win playoff games as far a normal.person see it.

Do you actually read things, that are postet on here, or do you just make things up in your mind? No one thinks that the Dolphins are ruined, sure there are some who think we took a step back but that’s not the same. There are doubts about the draft but I haven’t seen anyone who thinks it’s a total bust. With all the resources Grier had, he could have done better then what he did and after being here for quite some time without any real success, people have reason to doubt Grier. Being a fan of a franchise doesn’t mean you‘ve got to like every little thing they do, especially if they haven’t been relevant in decades.

    Just curious?Do u take LSD?
U call me a whiner when I simply state facts.
So when have u ever admitted ur wrong? It sure hasn't been in any of our conversations.
And with a straight face can you tell me our trenches are better this year than the beginning of last year?
And please Burrows has played 2 full seasons to Tuas 1 and the coach knows how fragile Tua is as he did not attempt 1 Qb sneek the entire season.Dude never even played a full.college season. He is one concussion away from being retired.
So back to Grier.U have a injury prone Qb why would u not build a wall around him?
    Makes no sense.

lol… Reading your posts makes me feel like I’m on LSD, that’s for sure.

It’s hard to be wrong when I’m debating you.
I don’t know if our trenches are better or not. FA isn’t over, we have a new DC (who was a dline specialist), and we don’t know when Chubb and JP will be back. I assume JP will start the season and Barret, Chop, and a few others will hold down the other side until Chubb comes back.

Butch has shown that he can work magic on the oline. We lost Hunt and Williams, but we’ve added others.
Tua wasn’t the starter from day 1, like BurrowsC and Tua has played 53 games compared to Burrows 52. If you think Tua is injury prone you must also think Burrows is injury prone.
And Tua isn’t one concussion away from retiring. Although, I do love hearing that nonsense from people that can’t even find their own brain much less diagnose Tua’s.

I am done.No questioning the organization with the longest playoff winning drought in the NFL and second in the major sports.Nothing they can do is wrong.
Mcdaniel is Vince Lombardi,Tua is Tom Brady and Grier is Bobby Bethard! And together we have won the last 5 superbowls.
And u are the most intelligent poster on here and.probally soon will have a front office postion with the organization.

I was there with you until last year. Then I really looked at production. Since 2020 running backs just aren't worth 1st round picks. Harris performed the best in that time frame, from a production stand point, and he didn't even get his 5th year option picked up. Neither of last years picks even got enough carries to break 1k rushing yards. No first round RB picks this year, and only one in the second. Why do you think that position is worth not only a 1st, but a top 15 pick? Trying to find a McCaffrey? In the last decade, I cannot think of another RB that justified that they were picked that high once their careers shook out.
