I worked in my father's machine shop the summer before I turned 16. He paid me, and this is no kidding, a whopping 2$ per hour for my services. We grew up in a farming community, and there's really nothing more awesome than working inside a honey wagon (manure spreader) in 100 degree heat, with welding gloves and a visor on (and, in some cases, full welding leathers). Not only is it 2000 degrees inside the foul contraption, but the poo also burns and gives off a wonderful funk - not to mention most of the time you had to use a stick welder as opposed to an arc welder. On the plus side it taught me the value of hard work, and I appreciated what my dad did for our family, though it took me a few years to do so. On the flip side, I'm a bit of a clutz; I have multiple scars/injuries from working there all of 3 months ... including my one and only concussion (It's a long story ...). Really, I probably got more injured working there than I ever did playing football.
The next year I got a job at the local gas station, and the year after that I moved up into the wonderful world of telemarketing. Those jobs were like heaven compared to my time in the machine shop.
Picked cucumbers @ age 6 for a summer job. Did the same thing for 6 years, then started cutting lawns AND planting / picking okra @ age 12. Presently a Partner in AA rated law firm. Yes, I've come a long way baaabeee.
christmas tree stand....i was a "dragger" i cut some off the bottom, trimmed the stump, loaded it ontop of the car....tied it down...and got tips.... everyone has a "story" to get tips mine was "yea im working here on the side, make some money for college to pay for books and tuition....its tough with a single mom" CHA CHING.....i made 450 every weekend....yes....2 days....it was sick money....my skank girlfriend in highschool got a nice diamond ring because of it
Christmas trees in Fl are as useful as snow removal in Hawaii. Which reminds me, the garbage trucks in Pompano always said "free snow removal" on the sides.
yea cause NO ONE celebrates xmas in south florida....let alone needs tree's....thats the dumbest thing i ever heard.....christmas trees need water.....not sub-zero temperature....
Meh, you misunderstood what I was getting at. I wasnt knocking your job bro. For craps sake I bagged grocery's. n/m I wasn't knocking it.

In my neighborhood, when I was little, there was a guy, 'Daddy Michaels', who had a walk-in candy truck. After a few years he disappeared and apparently went nuts and lost his mind. Years later he would show up around the school and parks in a rusty, old station wagon, completely out of his mind and he would sell this oriental stick gum. LOL. The gum was actually really good.=), just don't agree to go for a ride with him. =D My first job was when I was 9 or 10 years old and my friend and I sold beer and water at construction sites in the Bronx. We would charge lie 3 or 4 dollars per beer and this was in the 70's so beer was really cheap. We'd get an older cousin or friend to buy the beer, cheap crap, and we'd sell it. Those workers were trapped on the sites and couldn't leave and it was so hot in the summer that they would pay those prices. Man, for little kids we had wads of cash in our pockets. =D
I had my first job at 15 and worked 85 hours a week during the summer at this country store. Man I had very little life for about 2 years. It paid for school clothes and my video game addiction.
Wow! Looking at that pic., it's no wonder you have a video game addiction. What the hell else are you going to do? ....just messin' LOL. =D
It's all good! I lived directly behind it and I didn't have a car to commute else where. It wasn't a bad job actually. The owner was one of the best guys you would ever want to meet. The only thing that sucked was the hours.
Dishwasher at an Italian restaurant. It was actually a great job, a lot of fun with the guys in the kitchen. The chefs cooked us a free dinner every night, too. Really good food.
Yea they make the diah washers free dinner too. If we get them icecream and othere stuff we get free dinner.
At 15 (1975) I worked for about a year at Bird Road Animal Hospital. I did a lot of the cat & dog bathing. At 48 I still have the scars to prove I washed those damn felines ! (I refuse to this day to own a cat). I made the grand sum of $ 3 an hour.
Tell you how much minimum wages moved - my first job (aside of being a gopher for my dad when I was real young) was in 1988 and I earned 4.25 per hour.
Grocery store. General stocker, aka stock clerk heh. Actually wasnt to bad really, better than some of the stuff ive had since then lol.
first time i made money i was 12 and i was selling nicks and dime sacks of weed in a complex i lived in. i stood on the 'white wall' all day. was awesome. the white wall was a curb painted white for no reason at all we called the white wall, i sold it to kids a lot younger then me, all the way to 17-18 years old. kid that gave it to me was only 16 at the time. we were young and ambitious. drug game is not good job though, that kid that gave it to me ended up serving 3 1/2 in prison for drug related charges. my first real job i was 15 busing at a sea food reastruant. The Sea Food Shack. it sucked, i think i quit within the first month.
Working with my dad as a Pool Cleaner down in Florida. Too bad that experience doesn't help win jobs over when I apply
lol!!!!!! I'm laughing because a friend of mine worked at Regal in high school and he did the same. We were in (probably the ENTIRE high school) with free tickets every Friday and Saturday until finally someone said, "something isn't right here"
I worked at PetsMart as soon as I turned 16. I was in the fish, hamsters, and reptiles department. I hated it when people would come in with their dogs and their dog would take a poop in my department. That's what I hated the most about the job... picking up other people's dog's crap.
Every job you have in life you end up picking up other people's crap....you just had to do it literally.
Bagged groceries at Kroger's for $4.35 per hour... But the fringe benefits that involved young coeds who were cashiers was priceless.
My first job I worked at KFC, as a cashier and drive thru operator. It wasnt a bad job, free soda and popcorn chicken, and all the potato wedges I could eat. If I could go back in time and do it again, I would. I worked there all summer to save up money to buy my first car, a 1991 mazda b-series pickup truck, 2600i. I loved that truck. I think it was the summer of 99, when Star Wars Phantom Menace came out, cause they had a promotion for it. I also think that was the summer that American Pie came out, because customers would come in and tell me how good it was and that I should go see it. Ahhh, memories.
