Bottom line is this seems to be a franchise prospect with a much better chance of succeeding than the retreads and bargain basement draft picks that have been brought in over the last 12 years to fill the most important position on the field. I'm cautiously optimistic / really excited to see what Tannehill will do for our Dolphins. I just hope the new coaches put him in the best possible opportunity to succeed. No reason yet to believe they won't.
Watching Gruden's QB Camp with Ryan got me pumped ... was very impressed. One curiosity I have though is: Has Gruden ever met a QB he didn't like? In those QB Camps he always seems to love every guy that comes through the door
Did you see the Jimmy Clausen one? He sort of ripped into him.
those outs to the wide side of the field are impressive .. really seems like a solid kid. smart, athletic and a big arm. third rated QB in the draft. like the pick for you folks.
Meh, he barely rips into him, it came across as more as Gruden trying to motivate Clausen than tearing him a new one. Either way I learned to never trust Gruden's evaluations of players because I awhile back Gruden was accussed by someone of hyping players because he didn't want to burn bridges with players in case in ever comes back to coaching - which he will sooner or later. And when you listen to him during games this rings so true.
Have to be careful what you say on tape. His demeanor towards Clausen should be a bigger indicator. I don't think I've ever seen that demeanor towards any other QB at his "camp"
I can understand to a degree, but how many times does he ever rip into anyone? Part of his job is to give us a real time honest opinion on what's happening on the field, with him I don't think we get anything close to that. What he does as a analyst I feel is self serving to his best interest. So that's why I consider him somewhat as a fraud, and not because what he don't know but because of what he won't share.
Gruden's QB Camp show is for entertainment purposes and it gives that in spades. To me Gruden is a fantastic entertainer. The show gives viewers a chance to get to know these QB prospects personally, get a basic idea of their strengths and a bit about their weaknesses, but it is not a show that has much critical value.
i feel like gruden lets them talk. you get a side of the player that normally only the scouts and coaches see plus he can highlight things they do well. sometimes by not showing certain things it can tip you off to how he feels as well.
Yea, I wouldn't bash Gruden at all for this, this is for viewers who know basics of football. He invites these kids in to help show the country a little bit about them. A fraud? He was a VERY good coach. I would never call him a fraud. That's a little below the belt a comment
I always thought Gruden was a good coach and would have been happy to have had him for the Fins but he is even a better entertainer than he was a coach.
In those Gruden camp videos, he's always going to be supportive. He'll point out errors to be constructive, but he's not going to rip the player. What you get out of these is not Gruden's thumbs or thumbs down on a player. You get film study of a few plays and the QB's response and personality. It's up to you to evaluate the QB. You can guess what Gruden's opinion of the QB is based on demeanor, etc., but he's not giving you an evaluation.
I just got such a kick out of how Gruden kept calling Ryan "Tannyhill". It was more tongue in cheek than sarcastic but thats Gruden.
