Seriously... here's a conversation between me and the average Dolfan... Me: So what do you think of our offseason so far? Dolfan: We're ****ed!!! Me: Could you elaborate a little? Dolfan: Ross is a ****ing douche nugget! Me: How so? Dolfan: We can't get the coach we want. We failed on Harbaugh. We failed on Fisher. All because Jeff Ireland is a bum! Me: Dolfan: Go ahead and laugh!! Me: What is your solution? Dolfan: .... .... ..... Me: Are you okay? Dolfan: <drools> Me: What can Ross do to help the team now? Dolfan: Sell the team to a real owner! Me: You mean one that is willing to spend whatever it takes to win a SuperBowl? Dolfan: Yeah!! Me: Like Stephen Ross? Dolfan: ... .... .... Fire Jeff Ireland!! Me: Who should replace Jeff Ireland? Dolfan: Not Carl Peterson! Me: Who is this "Not Carl Peterson" fella? Dolfan: Trade whatever it takes for Andrew Luck!! Me: That's what a real GM should do? Dolfan: Championship!!
Not just in Miami.... the stupidity of the human race never ceases to amaze me...
Oh trust me I understand.....as a Nebraska fan there are Cletus fans everywhere with their heads in the sand who believe the official spin....
I think we are all losing it . I posted a thread and i couldnt delete it and then espn came on the air and said the oposite of what i had heard earlier. but i had a conversation with a average jets fan. me ; what do you think of Rex Ryan ? jets fan : Rex is god and moves in mysterious ways . me : I thought Roger Goodell was.jets fan when are you fin fans going to learn to throw the ball downfield and get a good qb? ME : when you cut Sanchez after you guys mis the playoffs. jets fans : but Rex promised us a super bowl .ME : and Dave Wannstedt told us that Miami was closer then ever before.
Paul, This is a funny read and all, but I think you and others might be missing a key point here - As fans we have the luxury to criticize Owners, GMs, coaches, players, etc without actually knowing who or what their replacement should be. It doesn't mean we're stupid. It usually just means we are not professionally employed by the NFL in any capacity, i.e., FANS. Yeah, sometimes fans unjustly criticize. And we're never patient. But it's equally ridiculous, IMHO, to ALWAYS defend a teams players, coaches, GMs, owners when they clearly are not getting the job done. Ireland and Ross have earned a fair amount of criticism. But we're probably stuck with them. It would be nice if we could all find a nice happy middle ground. But then these debates would be nowhere near as much fun / ridiculous.
Nope. Fans are allowed to be emotional, that's the point of being a fan. However, when we start spouting our emotional BS as fact, we deserve to be called out for being stupid.
I think all of us, at one time or another, has been highly critical of some decision that has been made in the past. My point is that I hope everyone who chooses to support or oppose anything in life, do so with conviction but above all, by doing their own research and making their own decision rather than listening to someone else. Don't be a sheep.
No matter what kind of research I do as a fan, I'm still not qualified to know who is a better coach than Tony Sparano. Who is a better GM than Jeff Ireland. Who is a better QB than Chad Henne. I just see that these guys aren't/weren't performing/putting a winning team on the field. As much as I'd love to quit my job and devote my entire life playing catch up to these guys who have been involved with the NFL most of their professional lives, I don't have that luxury. So, I guess I'm a sheep. Even though I know I'm not qualified, I enjoy speculating on who might be the best options at coach / gm / QB / etc. And that's all any of us fans do. Any of you who think you're doing differently are either a. kidding yourselves; or b. very generous to spend your time educating the rest of us fans while depriving the NFL of your valuable and professional insight. Don't get me wrong, Paul. It's ok to call out fans who make stupid statements. And all of us say stupid things over the course of thousands of posts. But to suggest a fan can't criticize a team without having professional knowledge of who their replacement should be is a little unrealistic, in my humble opinion.
You're taking things a little too literally. I said do their own research. I didn't say, go out and become a certified research specialist.
Ok, I get that. In your opinion what constitutes as doing research? What kind of research should a fan have to do before they have earned the right to criticize a guy like Jeff Irealand?
Depends on the issue that one is being critical about. If it has to do with not going after a high priced free agent, for example, know how much the free agent is asking for and how much cap room the Dolphins have to spend, not just on a particular position but the total team. Don't come out and say, "we should sign this guy or else Jeff Ireland should be fired"...
Fair enough. I guess all I'm trying to say here is that as fans we should be able to criticize a guy like Ireland without knowing exactly who his replacement should be or even if he should be fired. Even if we're wrong sometimes. 4 or 5 games into the season I think we all thought Reggie Bush was a big mistake. Now, it looks like maybe Ireland knew something most of us didn't.
Ross and Ireland bumble another of their top coaching prospects and you think that's reason to bump this thread?
