The tweet I saw was from a member of the media who said while there is a report that Boone turned down top 12 guard money, the media member says that claim is NOT TRUE. He said that if anyone in the 49ers front office actually attached his name to that report (of a top 12 offer), Boone and his agent would speak out about it loudly...because they're emphatic that it's not true.
Mike Pouncey says that he's shooting to be back by the 4th game of the season, which would be at Oakland just prior to the bye week. I think he knows that if he's not ready to go by that game then he's going on PUP. I think the big revelation is that even in Mike Pouncey's (probably overly) optimistic mind, he's not going to play in Week 1. I think DJ kept saying he would but I don't think it's going to happen. I think PUP is very likely, personally.
Armando Salguero evidently had been a big fan of looking into Alex Boone but has since decided that's not an option based on "issues relative to Boone's personal life and other matters." Translation: Armando heard where the bodies are buried.
I think regardless I'm uncomfortable with Hickey/Philbin spending draft picks at this late of a stage to bail themselves out, unless the cost is clearly lower than market value. Boone has played well but not played well for long enough that I think he's a guy you are banking on to play well in a new offense.
Ummmm, Wrong ! This offensive line is average, and when Pouncey comes back, it WILL be enough to make the playoffs. Health will be an issue, there won't be depth, but the starting five is tons better than last years, and good enough to make the playoffs. (Significant upgrades at LT - RT and the same All-Pro Center (in 4 weeks.) Even if both guards are sub-par, so what, the line is still waaay improved. What do we expect Hickey to do, fix the worst line in the NFL, in one season. The guy is gold in his first year already..... FINALLY.
i kept reiterating that I thought realistically from some movement that I saw that he would be back before the bye, after the bye at the latest, and that that was exciting In itself because of how the media and pundits alike were originally reporting half a year or more, and casting doom and gloom everywhere..
Armando seems to have heard something that's scared him off the idea and it seems to involve Alex Boone's personal life in some way.
He had some pretty serious alcohol issues while at Ohio State. I believe there was a feature on him in Sports Illustrated prior the Draft after his senior season as well. This article talks about an incident he had leading up to the Draft. http://www.csnbayarea.com/blog/matt-maiocco/alex-boones-remarkable-journey Cliffnotes version: - Consumed "30-40 beers per day as a freshman at OSU" - Was arrested after a Super Bowl party with a BAC three times the legal limit. Had to be tased to be subdued. Twice. - Worked with former OSU center LeCharles Bentley - interesting article on LB: http://grantland.com/features/lecha...-larry-warford-chance-warmack-geoff-schwartz/ On a personal note, I did see him once eat two Chipotle burritos in a single sitting in about 5 minutes. Impressive.
There were character and off field concerns with Boone while he was still in college, that probably led to his going undrafted. Do not recall any of the details though.
They could cut em off, but it won't make them play better, it'll just get them off the team. Ask Bess and Clemons .
Dolphins had a lot of interest in Fragel during the draft process a year ago if I remember right. There might still be some interest there.
Watching the Brows vs the r-Skins unless Fragel is wearing no. 2 the announcers and the cameras will barely show him. The Browns WR's are aweful......sheesh
Actually, Shelley rated as a better run blocker and better overall guard by PFF last season. Considering their ratings are cumulative, in only 371 snaps, for Shelley to be as high as he was is pretty amazing. 7th best run blocking guard while Boone was 19th. Besides his best performance being vs Gerald McCoy, his 2nd best game was vs Jurrell Casey, the 11th rated DT. They set the meshing of the entire line back by messing around with the Shelley at C bullsh!t. He should have been just given the RG job and left there from the get go, same as Albert, same as James, at their positions. They should have signed Satele at the same time they signed Colledge, and just plugged them both in from day 1 of camp, IMO.
Clemons got rid of his dreads a couple of years ago, and with this stupidity by Jones, I wish we still had Clemons. He isn't much for hands or turnovers, but he hits hard, he wraps up ( Jimmy Wilson, take note), and he very seldom blows an assignment. I have always liked him better than Jones, personally.
Yeah and he either stays healthy or plays hurt, I was sorry to see him go. Hopefully Delmas is an upgrade, I haven't really noticed him out there yet.
Clemons was better covering air than Delmas is now, even tho he had suspect hands. If you watch the VJax TD, Delmas is late to help. (Of course, Shelby got wiped out of the play 1 on 1 with RT.) I don't think Clemons was that late reacting on help when his zone was completely clear.
