Despite my optimism, I had to wonder why I was still a fan of the Dolphins. I mean, my reason for joining the fan base was because of Dan Marino. Two decades later I'm still with them. My guess is to why is because of our great tradition of past successes and the hope for a better tomorrow. When the season ends, I'm looking forward to the next season with anticipation for just a glimpse of something that will tell me that this year will be different. That we will not only make the playoffs but win the Super Bowl. I don't care what the odds are I am expecting the best until the season is over. I think I will always be that way no matter what happens each year. I hope my team does well each season. This year is no different. When they win this year I'll be excited. When they lose this year I'm looking forward to the next game and hope for a win. I do this until there is no more games left to play.

So why are you still a Dolphins fan?

I understand that some people would ask the question. To me, it would be unthinkable to not be a Dolphins fan though. Asking me to change would be like asking me to become a different person. Its just not possible. I love the Dolphins as if they were a part of me, and I always will. Its permanent.

Too much of time, energy, tears, money, and happiness invested into this team. I think everyone on this forum is too invested to walk away, I mean at this point we've blown past the casual fan mark. It's a part of our personality. At SOME POINT they will be dominating the league again. We'll be in the limelight. Who knows when that will be, but we'll all still be here waiting for it.

I feel ya my man. It's going to happen soon. We will be a team no one wants to play. A dominating force no doubt.

Because my acting career went south ever since I took that role in "Fat Camp 2: Fully Bloated."

I basically ate myself bankrupt preparing for the part of a plucky fat camper who also had anger issues. The week of the shoot I was informed that I was being replaced by Finster...I've been drugging myself with comfort food and draft prospects ever since.

I was born a Dolphins fan. (Same day as the team) And I'll die a Dolphins fan.

That and do you have any idea how much it would cost to replace all that Dolphins swag!?

I've been a fan of all my teams since before I was 7 years old. I only considered 2 other teams...the Giants because I'm from NY and most of my family are NYG fans (We are proudly a Jets free family) and the Raiders because as a young kid I was a big Marcus Allen fan. Ultimately Marino won out over LT or Allen. The Giants are still my 2nd favorite team but I just can't switch. Everyone knows I'm a Dolphins fan and that's the way this story will end.

I ask myself that question frequently.

I have no connection to Miami but I originally chose the Team because, back in 1984, they were regularly featured on the one American Football show on English TV back then.

Little did I realize that the first 10 years would be good (not great, but very good), but that the following 20 years would be purgatory.

(And to think that at college back in 1991, I used to laugh at the one Pats fan that I knew.)

...Still, I can't bring myself to follow another team. Just praying it will get better some day...

Ahhh...the question I seam to ask myself most Sundays and every draft day as I shake my head is total disbelief and stare into my beer. Answer; because I'm a masochist?

No, because one day a long, long time ago it meant I was a fan of one of the most dominating, intimidating, and respected teams in the NFL. Perhaps one day I will have that feeling again, but I certainly am not holding my breath...LOL.

They would have to do something bad like sign Vick or Big Rape or get bought by Putin, Kim Jong Un or Trump or something. Then I'd be a fan again after that person left.

Inertia. Plus the absolute confidence that, if I switched my allegiance to another team, that team would fall into a hell of perpetual mediocrity that would last for decades.

Was fortunate to have grown up and watch the 71 Dolphins in the playoffs on TV. There was a time through Jr. High and High School when my Dad and I didn't get along great, but we always shared Dolphins football. I don't invest myself in it as much as I did 20 years ago, but I can't help hoping we'll have a return to glory before I get planted.

Because im stubborn and I know with 100% certainty that the year I give up on them is the year they win the super bowl and I will have wasted 20 years of investment, heartache, sleeping on the coach after telling my wife she caused the loss with her negative attituide during games, $700+ in Jerseys for all our starting Quaterbacks the last 10 years, oh I could go on. These are the reasons Im still a fan. SOMEDAY this will all payoff I just hope I live to see it!!!!

Conceived, born, raised, grown up a Dolphins fan. There's just nothing else for me in the NFL. I'll die a fan of the Dolphins.

The only thing that would change any of that is if they moved the team out of state. I'm old enough now that if they did that, I'd abandon the NFL, except for playing fantasy or whatnot. But all passion would be gone.

it's simply embedded into my DNA. It's a part of me that I would be unwilling to shake, barring something catastrophic with the team like moving or something, even then idk. I couldn't see myself a fan of any other team.

As a baby one of my first toys was a big Marino doll/figure which lead to my first words being rino/marino . I was born to a huge phinatic father and family so I never really had a chance. My name was actually chosen by my parents based on a dolphins game against the jest. I don't remember any details other than if the phins won, my name would be Derek (My dads favorite defensive player was Derrick Thomas from KC who I believe he went to high school with) and if they lost my name would be Dan for his fav offensive player. Something along those lines.

They won, And I might as well announce that as of 4/5 months ago my fiancée is pregnant with our first. He will be named after my fav defensive player as well (Cameron). Kind of funny because wakes first name is actually Derek, It was a no-brainer when she suggested the name to me. The circle continues!

Either way- No matter how bad they are there is no jumping ship.... and as a young fan who's only really been exposed mediocre-at-best-phins in my lifetime, it will just make it that much better when we get back to relevancy........eventually.

I grew up a Dolphin fan. I have memories of watching games as young as 4 years old. My fandom precludes any individual player. It's probably part of my formative self-identity. And personality-wise, I tend to be loyal to a fault. Short of being being directly betrayed, I doubt I'd turn on the team. As poorly as the Dolphins have been run for the last 20 years, I don't view that as being directly betrayed. However, I can't say I have much optimism currently. My level of optimism affects my interest in buying any merchandise, attending games or overall level of excitement for the season or the draft, but it doesn't make me change my allegiances. So I will probably always be a Dolphin fan although my interest level will vary.

I will say that while my love, my total allegiance, and my interest in the Dolphins has not waned one bit, my excitement has in recent years. How much of that has to do with the team not being as good as they used to be, and how much has to do with me getting older, I can't say. Probably a mix.

Born and raised with them. Family in South Florida. Aunt has had season tickets as long as I can remember. My first NFL game was a Miami Dolphins game at SLS.

I love the history of the franchise. Only team to ever be able to claim perfection. The players that I have seen over the years like JT, ZT, Marino, Sam Madison, Ricky Williams, Chambers, McDuffie, and Wake. The colors are unique and iconic. The jerseys, yes even the new ones, are each perfect in their own way in their own time. I also know just how amazing it is going to feel once this franchise emerges from this forgotten period.

Living out in Denver, I have started paying more attention to the Broncos, but I will never be able to support them and follow them and obsess over them like I do the Dolphins. It is what it is. There is no other team for me.

Because I'm a fan, not a bandwagon jumper.

Always been a fins fan, always will be. Same with all my other sports teams, the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Blue Jays, and Michigan Wolverines. Every other team can FOAD in my opinion.

Same here. San Diego fan of the Dolphins because of Dan Marino. But I'm not a bandwagon so while everyone around me jumped onto the Chargers mid 2000s I stayed true and through. 30+ years now.

Its easy being a fan of the "best" team or the team that wins constantly, but thats no true fan. A true fan sticks with the team through the good and bad, and yeah, for me, the Dolphins have mostly been bad, but it will make the feeling that much better, when they do actually win the big one! I just hope I make it to 90 years old to see it
