They all say that the position you should draft in the 1st round is a Linebacker. But i personally think Linebacker is one of the strongest postions on the team. Am i wrong?. What position/player do you think we should draft?
LB is one of the strongest positions on the team??? Uh.. yeah I totally disagree. It's one of the weakest positions. We are in dire need of a good MLB and spending our 1st on one is not a bad idea.
Can't rule out CB given Grimes will be 33 next year and nagging injuries are becoming more prevalent. LB, I could see Smith, Jack or Ragland. At CB Ramsey will probably be gone if Miami stays where they are in draft order. Hargreaves or possibly Alexander. But hell, it's Miami so we will probably dump a bunch more high picks into the OL and be having the same discussion 5 years down the road whey the offense isn't scoring points and the defense sucks.
if that knee checks out then hes mos def in play no matter where we pick..but you gotta looks at rags and Jsmith and scoobster too, you might be able to sneak scooby in later and get someone else early..
I like Jack, and would be happy with the Dolphins picking him. I don't think linebacker is a strength, but it's not as bad as people are claiming either. The major problem is that this defense asks a lot of Kelvin Sheppard and he hasn't been very good. That and we've gotten some godawful play from Earl Mitchell and Jordan Phillips(in the run game) opposite Suh.
Unless a franchise type of MLB, or Hugh Green jr, taking a lb that high..is not great value, ditto our other need at Guard. Top 10 guy at G, is very uncommon. Looking objectively, if the offseason plays out the way it could De could be a huge need, lose Vernon, lose Wake, Jordan is AWOL and we have just some guys behind them, decent players, but Shelby is not replacing either player
This looks to be a very good draft for linebackers. Not sure which one I like best yet, but it's quite possible that an LB ends up being BPA in rounds 1 or 2. The appeal with Jack is that he's a special athlete and versatile enough to even play some nickelback. We could use that kind of flexibility. My pipe-dream is Jalen Ramsey, personally. But we'll likely win another game or two and miss out on that. I like Jaylon Smith too, another LB.
Obviously you must be watching a different LB group than I have been watching for the last few years. If there is a worst group of LB's in the entire league than those on the Dolphins, I would hate to be a fan of that team. Jenkins is the only LB from the present linebackers I want back next year. I would have absolutely no problem with LB being the pick for the Dolphins in the first round and they probably need to take at least two LB's in the 2016 draft.
I would be very happy if our draft consisted of LB/CB/DE in the early rounds. If we could score upgrades at OL in FA (shouldn't be hard to upgrade that unit, lol), I'd be psyched.
You guys all nailed it. The truth is, if you dumped all the 1st-round defensive names in a hat and drew one out randomly, you wouldn't hear many of us complain. Anything will help: LB, CB, FS, DE...virtually any position.
Yeah and as Limbo said, this is a good draft for LB, so I don't mind drafting one with our first pick (of the little tape I've seen, I like Jaylon Smith the most). OL absolutely must be fixed this time around. We need at least one through FA, but also one or maybe two mid-/lower round picks there (just get competition for those guard spots and someone will be good enough).
I want a DE or FS or a MLB in the first. I want whatever we didn't take in 1st or LT or a CB in the second.
Ragland has the floor and the size, Jack has the ceiling and athleticism. I saw Jack knock a lineman that was 70-80 lbs. heavier than him straight on his *** on one of those tapes from Draft Breakdown, so I don't think size is the biggest of issues with him. He plays violent. I like him, and wouldn't be upset with that pick at all. The pipe dream pick, and the only one I'd move up to get is Hargreaves, however.
I want an impact defensive player in the first round. Someone who can impact games and be a field general. A S or MLB. With our next two picks, we need to address G, CB, DE or the position that we didn't take in the 1st.
I want to draft a stud on defense with our first pick. A lot of top flight linebackers and cornerbacks to choose from. That's the direction we need to go.
I prefer Jaylon Smith to Myles Jack but I wouldn't be disappointed either way. One of the two elite DB prospects would be ideal
You guys do realize that Campbell and crew will not be back.....right? There is a very good chance the Dolphins are running a base 3-4 next year. Jelani Jenkins/Neville Hewitt would project to Will and Koa Misi/Zach Vigil to the Mike. Cam Wake,Dion Jordan,Chris McCain,Damontre Moore and at least one draft pick at OLB. Fede,Coples, and a draft pick like Bronson Kaufusi would project as 5-7 techniques along with Suh. However Fede could probably project at LB if he got himself in superb shape and some say Kaufusi is a freak and could also play OLB in a 3-4. Dolphins desperately need to draft a CB in the first round. Good free agent corners are just way too expensive.
I don't know if any of that is a good assumption. Dan Campbell shouldn't be the head coach next year, but that doesn't mean he won't be, and it's a possibility you're running a 3-4 but I'm not sure it's a probability.
as a Bruins and Dolphins Fan I would absolutely love this pick. The kid can play LB and can cover TEs/Wrs as well
I'm fearful that the things Myles Jack is good at won't be utilized in the position we need him to play. That's way I favor Jaylon Smith.
Edge Defender ranks from Pro Football Focus has Vernon at 5th and Shelby at 19th. Sheppard is ranked 84 among LBs. Pass blocking rated 24th. Run blocking rated LAST. Even tho Jones was rated 4th among S... the pass defense grade ranked 27th! Even if the past picks were horrible at the OL... it is a massive problem. Especially at LG and RG. Same with the D... alot of talent missing or non-existant.
Who know's what the great buffoon will do, but my best guess right now is that there will be a new admin in San Fran and Mangini will be a free agent; therefore, projecting Mike Shula as head coach and offensive guru with a highly paid Mangini as DC isn't really far fetched. In fact, I have no better guess right now and that would, of course, result in a conversion to a base 3-4.
There's a lot of CBs that are going to hit the FA market so we probably address the position there after restructuring Grimes. I think it'll be a 1 or 2 year deal to an aged veteran like we did with Finnegan to act as a stop gap and hope our numerous young CBs on the roster show something. I see us going LB and Jaylon Smith if we stay in the top 10 and he's available.
Jaylon Smith and Karl Joseph (expect to slip based on injury) would be perfect solution for LB and S needs.
I'm wary of drafting a player coming off of injury. We've done that several times in the past few years. I'm looking CB first, LB after that.
Todd Gurley entered the draft less than a year after tearing his ACL. It all depends on the player's rehab. Jack should be good to go from what I understand.
