Nailed it. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/25328400/stephen-rosss-firing-of-joe-philbin-highlights-dolphins-failures-future-challenges
JLC is just pissed that he has no inside information. He reported yesterday that Philbin would not be fired. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer...-with-1-2-start-but-philbins-job-safe-for-now
Ross big issue is he is too loyal. But other than that, he is a fine owner. He opens the checkbook and we have as much resources as the top organizations in the NFL. What ever we need he gets it. No owner in the NFL is a football czar, 98% of them, the 2% being Jerry Jones, rely on a guy like Tannebaum, Pioli, Polian, Newsome, etc to run the football operations.
Look at what Ross has done alone with the stadium. That should get him some credit. I understand why he courted Harbaugh before firing Sparano....it was a pure business move. Never in business would you get rid of something without having a better replacement in hand first. That's not how the NFL does it and he didn't know that at that time.
he was a year late on footing the bill for the stadium upgrades himself, lost out on hosting the Super Bowl, a year late on firing Sparano, at least 2 years late on firing Ireland and Philbin, he's late on everything, so far as an owner he has been a complete failure.
Ross has come a long way honestly. His early days here were pretty ugly. Let's be honest though, he's opened his wallet, spent on the stadium, isn't afraid to spend on the roster, he's put football people between himself and the team now who he's consulting with to make these decisions. He's got a football guy in Tannenbaum running the operations side now, he's just got to listen. If Tannenbaum suggested last year to fire Philbin, and Ross didn't listen, it's safe to say Ross has learned that lesson now (we hope) that he's fired Philbin, and that's going to make him trust Tannenbaum, and his other "advisors and consultants" more, so there's progress being made with Ross, slower than we'd like, but it's happening IMO.
I do think Ross has turned things around after a disastrous start. He spends a ton of money he should just let someone else pick the coach.
this article should be sticky'd and saved for the next time that someone says how can it be Ross's problem, he just hires the folks. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer...ighlights-dolphins-failures-future-challenges spot on.....things wont change sadly till our ownership does!
Ross may have the Midas touch when it comes to making money but he is just another clown in the NFL.He tries to throw money at a problem when this organization is not patient enough to try to build and develope talent through the draft, Look at the money wasted on SUH and Albert the last two years. It's not that they are bad but certainly not worth the cost.
LaCanfora owes his popularity to Adam Schefter being offered a ****ton more money by ESPN. NFL Network had to fill the insider position and LaCanfora happened to be really good in the intern fantasy league.
My biggest hope is that Ross finally realizes that he shouldn't be making ANY football decisions, and lets the experts he hires do it.
We can keep trashing guys with opinions that are negative towards the Dolphins, or we can maybe take off the aqua and orange colored glasses and realize that a lot of them have been 100% right. And LB certainly has opinions on this board that haven't been welcome, but he's been right more than he's been wrong with many of these opinions. It's no fun agreeing with negativity for sure, but sometimes there's good reason for it. I listened to Sirius NFL all day today and a lot of respected football minds have been saying the same thing about Ross. People just have no clue what's been going on in Miami. No idea why Philbin wasn't fired last year. As happy as we are that Philbin was finally relieved of his duties, it's another example of way too late for Ross. And it cost us more qualified coaching candidates. I have no faith whatsoever that he will get it right this time either. I think we have to hope Cambell can be the guy, as a coaching search where Ross has any input in not likely to yield good results in my humble opinion.
Armando's turn to call out Ross http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/armando-salguero/article37911129.html
Ross is no Micky Arison, but I like Ross. I've grown to love him as our owner. Man is trying. He clearly shows us that he cares about us fans. We'll be a legit team in three years.
My man, he built a freaking disco and moved games to 4 and 7 PM because "it was too hot in the stands." Any Miami native will tell you that we love the heat, we love to sweat, and we love the competitive advantage that it's given our team for the better part of 45 years. Ross ended all of that, celebrity owners and all, in one quick wave of his checkbook. Building extra bleachers and some shading 4 years later hardly makes up for the mediocrity we've experienced under his watch.
I write this at least once a year, but Ross leased the twin towers with extra insurance for terrorism right before 9/11. There's no secret to how he makes his money...He's duplicitous as they come. The surreal way his coaches have let him down is hilarious and telling. Huizenga never should of taken the poison pill just to let Parcells join the team. Kali yuga cycle; "...and thieves shall be kings, and kings shall be looked upon as thieves."
LB. The problem is that you are seeking an improbable figure. You want Ross gone. Fine. Who is the next guy? You want a multi billionaire who is willing to put his work to the side to concentrate on an NFL team. He must also open the chequebook and let the football guys get on with it. But crucially he's got to do everything he can to keep the fans happy. Ignoring the fact that at times some will have conflicting opinions. What are your requirements for a new owner? What would your 5 bullet points be?
I do give Ross some credit. His biggest problem though is that he's (or was) loyal to a fault. He was loyal to Sparano to a fault He was loyal to Ireland to a fault I think holding on to those two as long as he did...trying to be loyal...and getting burned as he did was a bit of a wake up call to him. Friendships are friendships but his business as an owner in the NFL is no different than any other business; if management isn't producing results, it's time to get new management. I was skeptical that Ross was going to fire Philbin in mid-season as illustrated in my Dolphins by Dr Suess poem, but the man surprised me. I think he's wised up. Right now we're all taking shots at anyone and everyone because we're hurting. A lot of people are the "Donald Trump supporters" of the Dolphins; lashing out our anger. I think we can all agree this was the best move for the team. Will this season still be salvaged and we can still make a run for the post season? We'll see, but I think we al need to take a step back and see what we have in the post Philbin scheme of the game.
My problem is that we already have that in Ross, and that's a problem, he should go back to his business full time, what he knows about football can fit in a thimble but he's still making decisions, and that is a huge problem imo. If your going to back a pool player in the green room, you put your money up, and then shut up, you don't start telling the guy how to play pool, you just put your money up, that's what I would like from Ross, hire experts and then let them do their jobs, if they are failing, hire other experts and so on until you get the right mix. Imo it's a problem that every football fan knows the name Stephen Ross, most owners are unknown to fans of other teams, because all they are is backers, they put up money, hire experts and stand back, out of the lime light, it seems to me that Ross WANTS the lime light, falling into the Snyder/Davis category of meddlesome owners that are significant reasons that their respective teams struggled. I hope Ross is finally starting to get that.
What do you mean, it "fortuitously" covered terrorism? There had been a major terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in 1993. Larry Silverstein would have been a first class idiot if he hadn't gotten terrorism coverage.
Here's a useful link (though it's nearly ten years old) about the "windfall." http://www.911myths.com/html/windfall.html
OK, your link just has that same silly poster you put up above...debunked at length in the post I put up. Do you have anything else to say that is actually, you know, relevant to the argument you were trying to make? If you want to debate 9/11, you're going to have to find another poster, and preferably another website.
Good article...Good information Sheds light on this aspect...Thanks I was due is all. Really concerned about it...
Ben Volin's thoughts... http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2...le-standard/Oci5Up6lRdsn0JfmJ3JbBK/story.html
Although i despise Ross, I think he made all the right moves this past week. Considering the lack of talent on the offensive line, keeping Lazor was the right move. Considering the abundance of talent on the defensive line and the production we got from it, firing Coyle was the right move. Considering Philbin just sucks firing him early was the right move. I've criticized non stop since we got him but he deserves credit this past month
It would come as no surprise if Ross is a regular reader here. The guy is himself a fan, who admittedly reads the news, and as such would have undoubtedly made his way around to find this rather distinguished herd of devoted cynics, malcontents, optimists and loyalists, bleeders and appeasers, analysts and theorists all grazing upon the field of outcome, munching through the facts and perception, expelling mass opinion and leaving voluminous piles, rich in well founded consensus. It is after all, what all too often appears to fertilize the actions of this owner.
