Per Armando: "The club has decided that if Jason Fox is unable to play in Saturday's preseason game against Atlanta, Thomas will be asked to move to left tackle from his left guard position. He would protect Ryan Tannehill's blind side. And, yes, Tannehill is expected to play Saturday... By the way, Dallas Thomas yielded seven sacks while playing at right tackle last season, per ProFootballFocus.com. He played only five games at right tackle." I think now might be a time for me to go on vacation and not watch what happens. #can'twatch #gotdepth?
This sounds like an awful idea. If they don't have a good option to put at left tackle, leave Tannehill out of the game. I don't care how bad it would look.
Its gonna look alot worse for Philbin if Tannehill gets hurt and misses a bunch of games because Thomas cant protect him.
Move Billy Turner to LT his natural position for this game. He should be into his second year right now working at LT.
This...put Billy there and let the rook hold down RG, or a backup if better...PLEASE NO DT...that will create 2 holes!!
So is Thomas out of the competition for guard? Or is finding someone hardly capable to plug in at LT for a preseason game that much more important ?
I encourage everyone to vote for Tannehill in Dolphins 2015 Survivor because he might not be long for this world with this decision...
Starting a lineman who probably shouldn't be on the field, and out of position to boot? I think we might have found peak Philbin.
Dallas Thomas is the only guy currently playing well at either guard spot. He's a young guy that's struggled thru two seasons of constant relocation, abysmal performance and subsequently confidence issues. Would really hate to see him move when his career is finally starting to gain traction. The flip side is, we could be down two left tackles on Saturday. if this were the regular season, Thomas would likely shift over there in lieu of cutting someone and signing a street FA for a week. And as bereft as the position is, young Jamil Douglas -- who the team is investing in for the future -- makes more sense at left guard than whoever they'd line up at LT instead of Thomas. It's a situation with no good options. Hey, at least they're not moving Ju'Waun James over there like last season.
As for Billy Turner, he's struggling at right guard. What makes us think he's ready for NFL left tackle?
Exactly..i agree..you know them though..i hope they learned a lesson last year, but it does not sound like it..they kill me with the way they run our oline.
Ha ha ha. Nothing stirs laughter up like hearing fans talk about what professional football coaches should do.
Linkenbach has started and played 5 entire games at LT in his career and played parts of four others there. He allowed one sack in those games. If they asked me, I'd say leave Thomas at LG where he is appearing to improve a little, and just plug in Linkenbach at LT for the game.
Thank god we have Bill Lazor. That's all I'm saying. Guy worked small miracles with scheming around/for that line last year. Looks like he'll be up against it again this season.
things will be fine, its preseason, they will just gamepan around the weakness and limit any exposure to that side, no 7 step drops..keep things simple, run the ball a lot..
Because that's where he played in college and played it very well, plus he's an excellent athlete with superb feet. We should never have moved him to OG, and if we wanted a pure OG we could have drafted Trai Turner and WR Martavis Bryant with the picks we traded to Oakland to move up and draft Billy Turner at the top of the 3rd round. Moving Turner to OG never made much sense to me, jmo.
If it's one preseason game that's fine, but if it's confirmed that Fox had a concussion and Albert isn't ready to go by week one... we're screwed.
I don't think Tra Turner has the athleticism to play guard in Miami's scheme. And I also think that Turner has potential to play RT eventually. But until he's ready play him at RG where he has the least amount of responsibility and the most amount of help on the line. If the long term plan is James at LT and Turner at RT, that could make the 2014 draft class special.
In related news... Lauren Tannehill was just seen leaving the local Bass Pro Shop with several carts full of what appeared to be ammunition boxes.
To each their own. But after a million posts on how bad Dallas Thomas is all he's done is go out relatively quickly seize the LG spot. He's now been shifted to LT so that Fox and Albert can fully recover, his value to the team is undeniable to anyone paying attention. And yet the parade of insults continues.
Dallas Thomas was forced to play out of position last season. I'm willing to see him at guard before I make a final decision on him. He was terrible as a tackle, but maybe he's improved enough to where he can do it adequately in brief stints. As for Linkenbach I think he adds much needed depth. I would give him some reps at left tackle to see how he does.
Yep. Not that Jason Fox is pre 2010 Jake Long..but he also is not he confused, lumbering staypuff marsh mellow man Dallas Thomas plays like most of the time
