Broncos made room for Mathis. Do we have some roster spots available? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Absolutely... Entering the year w/Strugis or Franks as a starting kicker is problematic. In the last three seasons, Barth hit 94%, 85%, and 93%. 15/16 last season. More importantly, Barth is very consistent from 40 yards or more, missing only one 40-49 yard attempt per season, over the last three seasons. 9/13 from 50 yards or more, over the last three seasons too. Beyond 40 yards, Strugis is a coin flip kicker.
Bring him in. I trust him more than Sturgis. I wouldn't be surprised if Sturgis misses at least 4 PAT's this year.
I still remember Barth's game winner to beat #4 Miami in Chapel Hill which is still to this day probably the biggest win in UNC football history. Would love to have him on the team.
So you have the Dolphins scoring at least 53 touchdowns this year? That would put them at top 5 in touchdowns. If they had the same amount of field goals that would be about 28 points per game.
Recall McManus missed a bunch of kicks last season and was cut, replaced by Barth. McManus was re-signed a week later to be the kickoff specialist. Now he replaces Barth full time. Not sure what to make of Barth's preseason kickoff performance without going to video (which I'm not going to do). He kicked off from his own 20 (69 yards) and was returned 46 yards. He kicked off from his own 35 (68 yards) and it went back 103 yards for a TD. Maybe they were line drives? He was 2/2 on short FGs. Only kicked on PAT in the second game. McManus had some long kickoffs but also a few that didn't reach the endzone.
Sigh... another important need, unfilled. Sturgis better get his **** together, or Franks better step up...
Meh...short kick offs kill...and he's a Denver guy...I'm not sure he's glaringly the answer to replace who we have. If Sturgis has another injury plagued year, he definitely has to go.
Barth has a history with TB. Perhaps he was only interested in going back there if they wanted him? Made his choice really fast.
