So Im with my parents in TN. The have comcast triple play. The wifi coverage for their cabin sucks...so we purchased a new Netgear N600 Cable Modem router. The problem is the new router does not have a RJ11 phone jack, which they need because the home security system has ro plug into it. Ive seen USB to VoIP adaptors...is there anything i can use to be able to plug the phone line into router? Any advice greatly appreciated!
I'm assuming the original modem was provided by Comcast? If so, you can put that into bridge mode and use it just for voice.
Yes the original is comcast modem, which we were hoping to return so we could eliminate the rental fee..
Take the Netgear router back and buy an ADSL router with the appropriate port. It'll be a lot less hassle.
You'll need to buy one that supports voice then. That's assuming Comcast lets you purchase your own for voice. I don't believe Time Warner does.
Ah wasn't aware it was like that. Is it not possible to ask Comcast for an upgrade on the router? Or, you could go for powerline networking which you could use to extend the wifi or just add a cable connection.
