I've not noticed this before, so maybe it's just a fluke, but Ross uses some odd phrases. I suppose when you walk in the circles of the planets richest people your tongue won't utter the language of the common people, still...

I mean, I love me some Top Gun, but "pushing the envelope" in terms of owner involvement? Get that man some Aviators and a bomber-jacket.

    "Best in class"? Really?

    You mean like...

Well, Albert won't be winning anything at the moment, not with that gait.

    Anyone else noticed any Ross-isms?

Best in class is always a good buzz word in the business world. We use it all the time in our pharmaceutical company.

    Urgh.

Maybe it's because I'm British but it brings up vision of country fairs with home-made preserve, garden and flower competitions and dog shows. Not exactly grid-iron material.

EDIT - I think I might be right on the origin. Just looked it up and a "business dictionary" states
    Wikipedia also states:

And the Cambridge Business English Dictionary says 'best in class' simply refers to something being the best of its kind.

That they aren't the same team without Lebron and that this is still a Dolphins town.

Is he wrong though? Lebron is the best and most popular basketball player on the planet. Of course the organization won't be the same when a guy like that leaves.

When you're a guy that has had zero success and has been nothing more than a laughingstock like Ross you shouldn't be saying that about a team that's won 3 championships in 9 years.

No doubt in my mind, if Ross had said, this is a Heat town, everyone would blast him for being ok the Dolphins being mediocre.

Going after the Heat organization is utterly stupid. Their organization is far and away more proven than the brainless lunatics that have been running things (for the most part) since Steve Ross took over.

The entire idea of fighting with the Heat for a slightly bigger piece of pie is ridiculous. You grow the damn pie. There's a reason plenty of NFL owners own other sports franchises in their city. Hell the Bills are having their head of the organization take a dual role as head of the Sabres as well.

No, but this ****tard decides to throw some shade on an organization that is far more advanced, classier by a country mile, and way way way way way way way way way more proven at producing results.

Yes. he is wrong. Micky Arison took control of the Heat and a year later hired Pat Riley. 20 years alter, they are a model franchise with 3 titles, that makes a ton of money, and has huge fan support.

Owners in the same town should not talk about each others teams like this, especially when you are who YOU are as compared to Micky Arison.

How bout...it's Nobody's town, and just be positive about your team without starting crap with a franchise that has been much more successful than yours?

It's such crap this notion that he basically had two choices, either capitulate and say this is a Heat town, or to insult the Heat organization. What the hell is that. You could say a million things that don't insult the other franchise while affirming your team's popularity.

    it is interesting......

That Erik Spoelstra, who is very interested in "Pace of practice" and concepts that Chip Kelly has cultivated over the years as well as trying to gleam stuff from other coaches, has visited with Chip Kelly, Bill Belichick, Tom Coughlin and Pete Carroll.

The Heat have hosted Sean Payton, Jason Garrett, and Chip Kelly.

Yet....There has been ZERO interaction between the two franchises. (Fins and Heat)

I think both can learn some things from each other.

    VIDEO LINK

Heat related comments at 1:00 although the lead up in the piece starts at 0:43.

What he said literally was that the Heat is a different organization without Lebron and that Miami fans are starting to get excited about what is building with the Dolphins.

The context was a question about whether Miami could become a Dolphins town again.

So then, the connotation people have picked up is that Miami is a waning Heat town and a growing Dolphins town.

Not sure that he meant it in any derogatory way, although he could have been a bit wiser in the way he answered. I think he was just looking at the situation and seeing that the people of Miami might be willing to get behind the Dolphins in a big way, again, and that without Lebron the Heat might lose some of the fans they had when he was there (in terms, I guess, of how a majority of Miami sports fans might primarily identify themselves).

I will say that for all the supposed upset that was a tough clip to find.

I'm sorry but this is unacceptable. The negative brigade has gone too far this time. There is nothing even remotely like an attack on the Heat from Ross as has been portrayed.

Ross says his share of dumb things but he's not a public speaker. This was NOT an example of that...at all.

I get Section getting defensive, as he is unquestionably Captain Heat and he spends much of his day defending the Heat against actual haters. It doesn't shock me he's extra defensive. But everyone else that did their level best to make this into a big deal..........you should be ashamed of yourselves and this is precisely why some people say you all have agendas.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, after hearing that I agree this isn't a big deal.

Ross was specifically asked about whether he thought the "Heat were taking over". So mentioning the Heat isn't something one should hold against him. I think the reason he said the Heat were a different organization without LeBron is just to point out that there are reasons other than what the Dolphins are doing on their own (to improve the team) to think the Dolphins might become more popular in South Florida.

yeah he didnt need to frame it like that, he should of made sure it didnt sound like he was saying the culture or franchise itself is any less of a culture or franchise..the heat franchise is still one of the best without james, Pat riley and arison make it sustain, not some overrated basketball player...

its dumb because you want heat fans to be dolphin fans and vice versa, so you must think before you talk when addressing a question like that..you dont wanna come across like your creating a competition in the same town...
