Cedric Thompson...I'm not gonna bet against this 5th round pick, first off because I actually think we desperately need a developmental safety with good leadership qualities and communication skills ( if you listen to him talk I think you would agree he has those things), and this kid has the athletic ability and movement of a good safety..there's issues in the back end and we'll see how he plays the ball back there, but there's good movement in that dude, and we're talking about a fifth round pick.. Special teams demon...developmental safety..part of the 53.. That's nice value. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7E3Kh2dUu0o
Nothing against Wake but I don't see him filling that role on defense. He is more of a quiet lead by example type whereas Landry is more of a high energy type leader.
I think its something we don't talk about enough, I believe this defense has lacked leadership across the board for years now, and looking back at the players that have come and gone, its no wonder they have folded when the tough got going.. when you constantly hear that Louis Delmas is your fearless leader, a player that came over from another team last year we probably should of took notice, and when he got injured, the meltdown seems more than a coincidence.. Without Delmas in the fold in the back 7 I don't see any leaders..thats an issue, and thats why I hope this kid can play at this level, cause we really need someone who has leadership skills.
I keep saying this over and over, but this is going to be a different year for the Dolphins. We are going to be so strong in so many areas. The thread DJ posted is proof in my thinking. We have players who are getting it and we have players who got it. We have what we need at each position.
still i don't know if he was mentioned once during OTA's if they don't bite as a puppy they will never bite is what they say, Lippett was the star during practice in shorts, lets hope he shows something when the hitting starts
As Deej pointed out, the kid is a developmental player. Jones and Delmas have the starting spots locked down. Thomas and Aikens are solid backups. Barring injury he's fighting to make the squad via special teams. Don Jones may have something to say about that.
He's an excellent open field tackler is what I've heard. Usually if this guy misses a tackle, the other guy just made a great play.
I know it's been said, but I have a strong feeling the coaches have some very hard decisions ahead, and we're likely to see some cast offs playing elsewhere. Young talent is such a double edged sword...either way, it's exciting to see the influx of talent over the past few years.
