Was just thinking about Tannehill today. I think this is a good move. I believe Tannehill is only going to get better and that with increased confidence and as he starts to take more control, more responsibility, he'll start to shine.
@AdamSchefter: Dolphins are giving QB Ryan Tanehill a six-year, $96 million extension that includes $45 million guaranteed, per league source.
Agree with this move. He showed improvement and gotten better each season and seems poised for a break out year. Better to wrap him up now so contract talk dont become an issue for the next 5 years. I believe if other things fall into place, Tannehill can take us deep into the playoffs.
$16M a year for the next 7 years of your starting QB, that's very very affordable. If he continues to improve, very affordable turns into straight bargain.
Im going on the record as saying I love this. Tannehill turned me down in my Madden online franchise and now plays for the raiders to the tune of 6 years 166m...49.9m Bonus. It made me very sad. This makes me very happy.
Now the only thing that will make me feel as comfortable with the QB position as I have been in close to 20 years is making sure Tanny doesn't get sacked 50 times again. Aside from that, really excited to see what he can do with the new receivers.
Me too. However if Coyle can simplify the defense a little when injuries happen, and Lazor helps improve the offense over his first year as coach, Philbin will be less of a factor.
Sweet news. Best is that we have our guy locked up to a fair deal for a long time. Second best is now we don't need to worry about a new HC coming in and needing to replace him with "his guy", as RT will be here for a while now guaranteed.
It's probably not Lazor with whom they (whoever the tweeter was!) had the problem! Some other names come to mind, one beginning with P......... as in P!$$ Poor....and you can add the rest!
What is he building that he is going to 'preform' something. Besides... if he actually 'performs' at all, it will be an improvement, and the brain trust would have to make a decision about whether he could maintain that for longer than a half a season or so.
Wow, that seems pretty cheap. Do playoff appearances really matter that much in contract negotiations? Tannehill could've done better for himself. But I'll definitely take it from the team-building perspective. Tannenbaum with an excellent job getting this done before Luck and Wilson get their extensions.
I'm excited to have him around and like the terms as well. I've been saying sign him to a heavily incentive laden contract, which I'm not sure this one is. He's the type of player to go for that; perform and you get paid.
The 6 year $96 million contract is a relatively good deal compared to what other QBs have been signed to. I still don't believe Tannehill is ever going to consistently play at an elite level, but rather at a solid to good level. Just imagine if the Dolphins invested that $96 million over 6 years and signed top tier OL, LBs, whoever.
I don't agree with this... Tannehill doesn't seem like the type of guy whose primary motivation is based on money, I think he is more success-driven. I think this extension will actually help him on a psychological level, and will take some burden off his chest so that now he can just focus on getting better and better with no pressure.
