If Ryan makes that crucial leap, ole Joe may have a job here for a while. Because we will be a playoff team.
Well than I expect Joe around a while, if that's the barometer...I fully believe something finally clicked for RT last year...and this year he can build/expand on it. I'm not saying he's gonna be the return of #13, but I think he's about to straighten the wheel.
Ya...I'm not sure what this accomplishes, honestly. JP knows he could be out on his arse in a hot second. Big vote of confidence to Sparano...few games later, gone, and the guy who SHOULD have been our next HC was filling in.
Sometimes perception is reality. It goes way beyond Joe Philbin. Ross doesn't want a team that is going to subconsciously or consciously give up when the going gets tough because they think Philbin is a goner anyway. He's doing what he can to mitigate complacency from the entire team's perspective. To what degree it will work is to be seen, but it's better than nothing.
Contract extension is the kiss of death lol remember the last time Ross gave one of those, Sparano got fired. Might as well wave bye to Philbin
With the team going into the direction of a youth movement, it is going to take a few years before they become a legitimate playoff team. Also with Coach Mediocre in charge this coming season, it is very likely the Dolphins are headed for another 8-8 season. I see the contract extension as a golden parachute from Ross to Philbin after his four years with the Dolphins. I will be the most surprised member of this forum if Philbin is still the head coach of the Dolphins in 2016.
Agree, it's meaningless. Just wondering when this happened exactly. If it's very recent, I don't understand the timing. I would think from a free agency perspective they would want to give some hollow appearance that Philbin isn't really the lame duck coach that he is. Now that the big moves in free agency are wrapped up, not sure why Ross would bother doing this now. But hey, it's his money. As long as he doesn't act on it if Philbin stays stuck in neutral, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
What youth movement? We've literally only cut players 99% of people wanted to cut anyway. The only "young" player we have brought on is Stills and even he has multiple seasons under his belt.
There will be more though...youth starting that is, not necessarily new kids...there's a bunch of young'ns on the team who could start this year compared to the experience that did in the past (not saying experience = better). There's also rumblings about them NOT bringing in a vet WR and drafting one high...may be a bargaining chip, but it is a real possibility.
Woot! Like Ross said you can't get someone's best whe they have a gun loaded at their head! Sent from my  6+
While his father was a great head coach. I really don't see Mike as anything but a solid offensive coordinator. Hopefully Ross and Tannebaum can do better than Mike Shula when they hire the new head coach after next season.
Really the only reason I believe Philbin is gone if we don't make the playoffs is because Tannebaum is calling the shots right now...I mean if it was up to him he would've fired Queasy as soon as he took over.
Or the Jets, I mean Geno Smith is still on the roster. Talk about failing and getting paid, that guy can't even read his own paycheck let alone a defensive coverage scheme.
