Love it....maybe we can get Tony Sparano back on staff as a kicking coach? It's all about motivation anyway, right?

Are you really that concerned about our punter? I liked Fields as he is a very good punter.....not losing any sleep cutting him at +3 mill a year.

Fields has had a good run, but you can get a good punter for a third of that, and a rookie for about a sixth. If we had a lot of cap room, I'd be fine with hanging on to him, but we need every cent this offseason.

Hopefully he restructures and we keep him. Hes not worth that money if he continues this trend for 2015.

He has a strong leg but come on... some of that credit has to go to our ST unit too... We're not going to dread the day we're missing Fields... I know he has been the MVP of our team since 2007 but it's time to go..

I don't think it's about being concerned about Fields...it's about the fact that we have a bunch of holes to fill...now, apparently, we can add punter to the list that includes linebacker(s), CB, S, OG(s), potentially LT, TE (as reports are that Clay is likely to move on), WR, etc... We are in full rebuild mode here folks...Can TanBaum and Hinkle figure out a way to replace everyone ??

Can't believe we've been paying a punter this much.

Did Dave Wannstedt sign that deal?

There are always tons of Punters and Kickers that switch teams every year so free agency is filled with serviceable names.

You don't pay a punter $3M no matter who he is, so if Fields won't restructure or you don't think Fields will regain his strength you go out and sign the best guy you can because there are a million out there ready to go.

Replacing kickers and punters IS NOT like replacing a starting LB or Tackle.

Yes, have seen Sturgis literally lose games for us, now we lose a pro bowl punter.

ST's can win 3 games per yr if they are good, our ST was wildly erratic in 14

One of the reasons our st's were wildly erratic was because our high priced punter had a bad year. No need to spend over 3 mill on him. ST's are very important , I totally agree. Asking him to take a pay cut or be released does not leave us with a big hole at punter.

Fields ranked 23rd in the league last year. It appears his best days are indeed behind him. Releasing him would be the smart move. There are three guys coming out this spring that I really like; I think any one of them could replace 23rd in the league.

Add me to the list of not wanting him gone. He is still an elite punter and now we have another hole to fill

The FA and cuts. Outside of Odrick we haven't replaced any of the guys who were let go yet. I'm not doing any celebrating until I see what the D, and team, look like as a whole.

Most of them didn't have to be replaced. Ellerbe and wheeler being gone is an upgrade, even if we sign no One. I'm not freaking out over hartline and gibson either. A lot of people see us cutting all these guys and say "wow so many cuts, what are they going to do! ?"

Have you seen some of these guys play? Hartline became irrelevant and Jarvis straight up stole gibsons job.

Only guy I'm worried about losing is clay

I would like to see Fields restructure his deal and see if 2014 was just a fluke year for him. The Field Position game is an important sub plot to how the overall game goes. It can, and does help teams win games. There have been games that if Fields would have not kept the opposition's pinned deep in their own territory we would have lost the game. So, I want him to restructure if at all possible, and I do not want us to spend a draft pick on a punter at this point and time.

I agree, none of the guys who were cut were essential but that doesn't mean they don't have to be replaced. Two WRs, 3 LBs, 2 CBs and a FS. I think we're fine at OG but a lot of people think we need bodies there too.

Maybe we should trade Tannehill - we can get a QB cheaper, especially a rookie. We can play Moore - there's an idea. We can trade Moore because he cost too much and we can get a rook for a third

They have plenty of money to pay Tannehill. Matt Moore is a FA so we can not trade him. And no, the sky is not falling.

I couldn't disagree more with that statement.

Hartline...Well, I could go on and on about how his level of play had fallen off the deep end.
Gibson...Contributed very little last year because of injury.
I am a huge advocate of Matt Hazel WR. I fully believe he can replace Hartline's production and then some. Gibson is easily replaced by a draft pick.(Conley)
Wheeler had a better year but for crying out loud he is playing in front of Jordan and McCain. Less is more. And Jordan Tripp will contribute significantly inside if not this year then next.
Finnegan wasn't good by anyone's standards. We are better without him.

Safety Delmas ranked 52nd in the league last year............WTH?? Weakened...really? I don't think so. Sign Dawan Landry to a 1 year deal and draft Eric Rowe and we are are waaayyy better off. Even if we replaced Delmas with Michael Thomas we might be better off.

Dolphins are loaded with opportunities to get better in a number of areas.

Makes perfect sense. Punter has got to be the most easily replaceable position on roster. No need to overpay for one.

I was that way at first...but after mulling it over a while...cut him. I wouldn't really call cutting the punter creating another hole...you can go UDFA and find somebody that can at least do what he did in 2014...maybe even snag one that has some QB experience for a cherry on top...on the CHEAP.

you can find a punter that did what he did last year for way less money.
