rmando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero 22 mins22 minutes ago Dolphins WR room is not a safe place. Hartline, Gibson released, Wallace drama and possible release, Matthews asked to be released/traded. Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero 20 mins20 minutes ago I'm told, by the way, Dolphins told Rishard Matthews no thanks on release or trade. Young. Cheap. Staying for now. Yay.....
I don't know why he would be unhappy now. This offseason is setting him up for a golden opportunity. He has a chance to really make a name for himself. I've always liked Matthews so I hope he can get his head out of his ***.
Part of me believes that Rishard Matthews has been underutilized since he's been here, another part of me believes he is a 7th-round pick, has brought disciplinary actions on himself in the past, and just saw a couple of receiving buddies get the boot. I can understand why he's not happy.
It seems like all of a sudden he is in their plans which I like, but who had the change of heart on him and why?
Someone tell Matthews that the reputation he is getting is not going to make him a wanted man around the NFL like he thinks it will be. Show up on time...practice hard...respect your coaches...and look in the mirror
Obviously he wants to get off the sinking ship while he still has an opportunity to catch on with a better captain and crew.
I think the ONLY reason they are keeping him is because he's cheap and they cut Hartline & Gibson and may move Wallace.
Philbin and Matthews don't like each other, and their relationship has been bad for a while now. I don't think we've ever heard specific reasons why, but I'm sure at this point Matthews is tired of being buried on the depth chart after performing well when his number is called. I think the funny thing is Philbin was apparently able to push out multiple big-money players, but we've had three different decision makers in terms of personnel refuse to let him do the same with Matthews. That could be mostly because you've got a #4/#5 who is being paid peanuts and can serve as a solid starter, but I wonder if they like him a bit better than that too.
If this is true and the petty counter productive *****fest starts at the hc, then a change needs to be made starting there.
First Matthews isn't happy because he thinks he's better than the guys who are getting more playing time. Then the guys who were getting more playing time get cut, and he doesn't, and he's still not happy.
have you ever seen him returns punts in college...very good..have you ever seen him return a punt in the nfl?
he shouldn't give a crap about the head coach, he works for lazor and he's the only one he needs to endear himself to..
You'd have a point if the season started tomorrow. We still have free agency and the draft to add more receivers, Failbin is still the coach and regarding his usage the two still don't see eye to eye, next season will probably be more of the same, he'll be behind Landry/Wallace/Clay and whatever other additions the team makes in the next 3 months.
He should shut the F*** up! I can't believe that a WR who FINALLY knows he's going to get his shot would be stupid enough to ask for a release ??? That's plain F'n stupid..... C'mon Man !
It's a question most likely of integrity of the coaching staff. I mean it's a business right? Isn't that what these players claim? Can't stand it when I hear that ****. Weather anyone realizes it or not we are in rebuild mode. Only question that remains is will it involve Philbin?
Do we not see a trend emerging here: Just off the top of my head: Wallace Oderick Davis Marshall Mathews Dansby ??? ???
From the outside looking in it seems that we have several disgruntled WRs, if that's the case it's time to start looking at the staff. Wallace gets the pub for sitting out a half vs NYJ but does anyone doubt that Gibson, Hartline and Matthews were unhappy with their roles as well?
So...am I the only one who thinks that an entire wide receiver turn over is going to hurt Tannehill more than we think?
Nah, If you're a young player who wants to prove he belongs in this league. You would want the "competition" to move along and have your chance at a big payday. Isn't that what the players really want?
Isnt this old news though? I heard this during the season. This is just Armando rehashing what was said some time ago right? I think the sentence should end with ............. back in [Month] of 2014. Is Matthews still wanting to leave? He may be foaming at the mouth right now.. I think the timeline here has been blended together from months apart, creating confusion and people are speculating that Matthews just came out and said this based on the recent news of Gibson and Hartline..
The fact Matthews wants out despite this oppurtunity that may be approaching him, is quite the indictment on the staff. People do not want to play for this regime, why they were all brought back is beyond me.
That was my first thought as well, especially since Clay may be gone too. But then I realized that the way the offense was run last year, it shouldn't be all that hard to replace what the guys did. Not their physical skills, but the holes they were pegged into last season. If Matthews is still here, he can easily do what Hartline was asked to do last year (though I think Hartline had the ability to do much more). The question then becomes if Wallace is still around or not, and who then becomes our new #1. It's very possible a different player does more in this offense than Wallace did, even if he isn't quite as good in a vacuum.
