This guy is the Mark May of NFL "analysts". Said on air that he isn't sure Marino or Montana would thrive in today's age due to the mental aspect of today's game.

Is he the worst or what.

If not the worst, he's a strong contender for worst football "commentator" ever. The guy has about as much useful to say as a loudmouth fan who calls into a talk show, and about as much tact.

Ok, so here's the thing. He criticized the hell out of the Dolphins in 2013 for drafting Dion Jordan and signing Mike Wallace. Jordan is an inch away from full bust status and the Dolphins are carefully considering cutting the underachieving Wallace who likes to throw temper tantrums because the ball doesn't find him enough.

And Heath Evans is a horrible analyst?

A year prior, he praise the hell out of the Dolphins for taking Ryan Tannehill. Was he a horrible analyst then too? Or is he only horrible when he's criticizing the Dolphins (and ending up right)? Serious question.

Or getting their WRs mugged....stats are so over inflated these days it really is a shame. A lot of the younger guys who never really saw Dan in his prime have no idea.

His 5,000 48 TD season is comparable to Babe Ruth in the 20's, when hitting 40-50 home runs was unheard of. These days QBs throw for 4-5k yards in their sleep and he will keep dropping in the record books, but for those who saw it happen we know it's not even close.

How do you explain his matter of fact approach in regards to deflate gate? He wasn't just being a "good former Pat" he was going out of his way to chastise everyone who made it an issue and apologized for Bill B....and comments like this??? Are stupid. No two ways about it, I doubt the idiot even really believes it...he just likes to sound smart.

And I'm not attacking just his Dolphins talk, I'm attacking his overall crappiness.

It's ever permeated into sports center through the years.

15+ years ago, you actually could tune in to ESPN in the morning and get some sports news stories in a matter of a minute or so.

Nowadays, you have to spend 10-20 to get one or two actual stories, while tirelessly sifting through opinions.
It feels like the go-to format now is:

    1. Read a headline 0:09
    2. Cut to an on-site reporter to rehash the headline the anchor literally just recited, while offering little to no real additional insight 2:25
    3. Back to the studio, and bring in some former player/coach/GM/"expert" to give you their opinion on the matter 14:30
    4. ---Commercial break--- 2:30
    5. Immediate ESPN self-promotions 0:30
    6. Read the next headline...

I really miss the Best Damn Sports Show Period.

Also, with all the rule changes and its much easier to be a QB in todays NFL, as noticed by the growing statistics by QBs. If Dan played in todays NFL, I have no doubt he could reach 6,000 yards in a season.

Heath Evans is firmly in the tank for Belichick. No denying that. Doesn't mean he's a bad analyst. He's shown he's capable of praising the Dolphins for moves he likes and criticizing them for moves he doesn't like. I don't see the problem.

I have a problem with guys (and there are a lot) who spew out matter of fact nonsense and then the topic is never touched again. Mark May Atleast will be called out on game day this Fall, because that show isn't afraid to stir the pot.

Yet I have yet to hear anyone ask Heath how he feels about his 4 minute rant (I'm sure the YouTube vid is out there) about how Chip Kelly was one of the worst hires in pro football history....

So for me, it's not so much being a jaded Phin fan..it's the overall body of work he brings to the show. He sucks and has no accountability.

Didn't Heath Evans also call the Dolphins out for cutting Karlos Dansby and replacing him with Dannell Ellerbe?

Gaining more and more respect for Evans as an analyst.

He's awful inspite of what he says about Miami, and he and a few others have made me turn off NFL Network too. At least Sapp is gone, but its gone SO FAR downhill from what it used to be when Rich Eisen was actually hosting the show every night instead of just on game days. They take nothing seriously anymore, and everything has to be a loudmough opinion.

Saying Dan Marino wouldnt succeed in todays NFL is straight blasphemy. He should talk about how the FB position will be a dead position by the year 2030.(They will just use blocking TE's and big HB's in situations as FB's)

And Montana to boot, that guy learned an innovative system before anyone else and executed that system to a tee. Again, just Heath trying to sound smart and failing....again.

And criticizing all the Dolphins moves the past few years is a good way to be right more often than not.

I think Heath Evans did society at large a favor when he decided to pursue a career in football/TV, rather than becoming a nurse, doctor, or engineer.

I'd really hate to have to cross a bridge built by Heath Evans.

**** Heath Evans. How does he still have a job?

Marino would throw for 6,000 yards a season in today's NFL.

Not to mention in 85 nobody seemed to be able to figure out Buddy Ryans 4-6 Defense, they dominated teams to the tune of being considered maybe the best Defense ever....they were undefeated...then they came to Miami and a 3rd year pot head from Pitt ripped them a new ***. But carry on Heath.

Ryan Clark just retired and ESPN gave him a job. Is it me or does ESPN/NFL Network tend to hire ex-players who have contributed to something negative towards the Dolphins?

A few years ago, Clark was a FA and said no one wants to play for Miami. Bam, he's got a job. Heath Evans, Teddy Brushci, Rodney Harrison, Warren Sapp...all these guys have either played against Miami on a rival team or have made deragatory statements against the Dolphins(ex. Sapp saying growing up in Florida he rooted against the Dolphins). Seems to me one important requirement for working for these two networks is you have to be anti-Dolphins somehow.

With that logic, Brady wouldn't make it one season in the 80s. One hit from Bruce Smith, who legally could take two steps after the pass cream the QB, would scare Tommy boy forever. Christ he cries so much now if they happen to touch him.

He's pretty mediocre, but I wouldn't call him awful. I think at times he goes out of his way to take some extreme stances, but each of the networks has a couple of guys like that. It's probably what keeps him employed, ala Sean Salisbury.

[EDIT] having said that, this was a really stupid statement, which is what made me think of the S Salisbury comparison
