I am deeply shocked Namath didnt claim himself to be the best ever! Namath has always been a classic narcissist.

Tom Brady isn't worthy of carrying Dan Marino's jock strap to the washer. Marino was 100x the QB Brady wishes he ever could be

I would take Danny as well over any qb..just given brady his props, he's a hall of famer and one of the best, better than manning.

Namath thinks Super Bowls makes one single player great.

He's wrong. And he was a horrible QB.

That's pushing it. Dan Marino is the best physical talent at QB ever. But to say Brady couldn't carry Dan's jock strap reeks of homerism. Dan Marino was the best passer the league has seen. He is not the best QB of all time though. And yes there is a difference.

    Hard to argue.

In twenty years, what will Tom Brady's legacy be? Dan was a pure-passer, Peyton was super cerebral, Farve was the ultimate gunslinger, etc. But Brady? He is just good at everything and just happens to be the centerpiece of a stellar franchise. I don't know exactly what he will be remembered as excelling at, as far as superlatives go.

Namath would be Trent Dilfer unless the Baltimore Colts choked that day.

One of the best HC's ever doesn't hurt. Look what they did the year Brady was hurt. Belichek can still win a lot of games w/out Brady.

I realize most of you are fairly young and therefore didn't get the opportunity to see some of the great QB's from decades ago.

To me, the greatest QB of all time was Johnny Unitas. He didn't wait around for a coach to call in the plays. He was the offensive play caller on the field. While he may not have the passing stats of the QB's today, because he played in a different era. I would take a young Unitas over any of the QB's of the past 40 years and it really isn't close IMO.

Two counterarguments. What is Don Shula? Chopped liver? Brady and Beli have had way more success than Don and Dan.

Second, yes they went 11-5 without Brady, after going 16-0 before. That's a 5 game drop off. Not insignificant. The only season they missed the playoffs in how long?

While Shula was a great coach, he was a pretty lousy personnel guy. When he was hired by the Dolphins, Joe Thomas was the GM of the team and at the time he was probably the best GM in the game.

Thomas provided Shula with a lot of talented players and Shula was able to coach this talent into the best team in the league in the early 1970's.

After Thomas left the Dolphins, Shula was more active in player personnel decisions with the GM's who succeeded Thomas. Shula also lost his defensive coordinator, Bill Arnsparger after winning two SB's. Arnsparger was one of the greatest defensive coordinators in the history of the NFL and once he left the Dolphins to become a head coach in the NFL, Shula never won another SB as a head coach.

Belichick has done a much better job in free agency and the draft than Shula was able to do once he because more involved in personnel decisions. To me, Belichick is just as solid a head coach as Shula. His record as the head coach of the Patriots clearly shows this. It is Belichick's ability to fill his teams needs during the off season and get these players to buy into his system every year which I think makes him the best head coach in NFL history.

I hate the fact he was hired by the Patriots and not by the Dolphins, but it is what it is and I give him all the credit for being a great head coach. I think if he had been in Miami during the Marino years and been involved in personnel decisions, as well as being the head coach, the Dolphins would have won several Super Bowls.

Taking nothing away from Shula, who was a great coach. I just believe Belichick is better all around.

I disagree. Brady is good at hitting quick, short, high percentage passes.

    He's not good under pressure.

Sans Randy Moss, who also happened to make Culpepper look like a HoF QB, he's not good at the deep pass.

He's not particularly good at reading defenses.

If I had to pick Brady's best traits none would be physical.

I think he's hardworking and determined. That's all he's "great" at. And there's an argument to be made that all succeful QB's in this league are both of those things.
